'Orange' you glad to see me?
Previews for Agent Orange, of the Green Lantern prelude to Blackest Night, previews found at
IGN.com.

SPOILERS... wait, not false alarm, no spoilers yet....

This is the first time I am going to complain about the pacing of the story.. the images. It seems like it is skipping some transitional images in between. I have to re-read this a couple of times to understand how we got from A to B to C to what the hell?

Newsarama has the first three pages, one of which was missing from the IGN set (which I can't see right now). I do think that the Controllers are about to get owned, and I'm looking forward to seeing the carnage on Wednesday.

Grr. It looks like Geoff is going to ignore the canon of the hands off policy for Vega.

Actually, the Orange Lantern arc is supposed to address the issue more closely. Plus, that's the Controllers who're tampering in Vega, not the blue morons.

I have to say, I really the combination of visual and text imagery in the "You can only protect what you can hold" panel. That implies a very different attitude towards the concept of "avarice", the idea of someone acting like a miser not out of greed but because the feeling of loss is too painful to bear.

I remain very interested to see where this is going.

What a place to miss a word... You really what it? The rest of your post could support either 'I really like it', or 'I really don't like it'.

I meant to say that I really like it, hence why I remain interested to see where this is going. But hey, what's a misplaced verb or two between friends, right?

...Right? ;o_o

I believe the point at the end of this is going to be something like "It's not the color of the corps, it's the wielder of the ring" or whatever. So that there will be good guys in all of the corps.

Of course, they still haven't admitted that green is obviously not willpower, but whatever. A guy can dream.

Anyone else remember Gardner's run with "The Corpse" right after rebirth? The creatures that the Dominators were working on. I'm wondering if there will be a tie in.

Also, anyone else still surprised Mongol isn't the one who went Avarice ring?

Mongul may yet get one. I am curious if Arkillo may end up with a red (hatred of Mongul) and/or orange (craving power of leading the Sinestro Corps) ring.

Sadly, as much as I feel Guy is my favorite GL. Yes I am one of the few who believes Guy is the perfect GL. Out of all the 2814, I could see him being the one to take the Avarice ring.

Honestly, he has often been rather lacking of self confidence that presents itself in the macho bravado. While Hal is Johns favorite sock boy and they want to make him the rainbow lantern. Guy fits for going avarice, not going evil just preying upon his inherent weakness.

Then again I want to see Guy have one huge fight where he has hopeless odds and saves the day by pretending to fall to the avarice ring but then fights dirty and drives the yellow back into the darkness...then again I think he is due for the one big victory...

A shame, then, that we've already been thrown a cover with Jordan clutching at the Orange Lantern.

Admittedly, I have liked nearly everything about Green Lantern since the relaunch (although Corps has been my favourite title), but since the midpoint of Sinestro Corps War, the one thing that's irked me is how Johns has gone out of his way to show that Jordan is perfect at wielding every ring he comes across. He can handle fear, he was able to fight off rage and subdue it, and undoubtedly, he'll somehow control the impulses of greed.

Granted, Johns is probably going to make something out of it, like Jordan wielding every single colour of ring at the climax of Blackest Night and using it to solve the situation, but it just bothers me. That said, I think we might see the last of Hal, at the end of Blackest Night. Johns mentioned something about one hero's path to redemption being fully achieved, and another's just beginning, once BN wraps. So possibly, we could see Jordan gone, and Sinestro back in the willpower saddle? It'd fit bizarrely well with the absence of the trinity and several of the other heavy hitters like Martian Manhunter going missing.

He didn't fight off rage on his own merits, he needed the blue ring from Saint-Walker to do that.

Well, I forgot that. My bad, but it does just prove what everyone's saying about Hal being this fantastical Rainbow Lantern, and I still maintain Johns might shock everyone by stopping his work with Hal following Blackest Night.

He fought it off with their help (he got by with a little help from his friends) but there was clearly a lot more of Hal than there was of Laira or anyone else. He was forming constructs with his ring whereas the other Red Lanterns were basically just blasting away. His internal monologue consisted of him battling the ring for control of himself, whereas Laira only managed one pathetic plea for help towards the end.

The issue there is Hal was the perspective character while Laira wasn't, so we saw him a little more. If we'd heard Laira's internal monologue, it might've been different, but it isn't her book so that's not gonna happen often.

As far as constructs go, ring slingers always have their separate styles.

I want to see Guy get a red ring.

I can see a closeup of blood shot eyes and then in the caption boxes they do for Red Lanterns we get "Y-you..." "Think" "Making me..." "M--m-mad" "Will Do Any..." "Anything..." "BUT..." "MAKE ME..." "KICK YOUR ASSES HARDER!!!"

And then the next panel we just see a stream of constructs formed by the red blood.

And then Hope fails to cure him, but Ice shows up welding either Compassion or Love.

Someone please draw Ice in a Star Sapphire costume?

It's also worth noting that Johns retconned Hal's early days as him using his ring on a yellow thing before they knew how to do it. It was, admittedly, completely by accident, but it still makes him that much more of a special little butterfly than everyone else.

Maybe I'm missing a lot just reading what's posted here instead of the full books (GL at least, GLC is totally one of my pulls), but Hal doesn't seem quite so Marty Stu as much as a perspective character kind of hazarding his way through each of the new corps.

It definitely wasn't any strength of character that got him a red ring, or gave him proficiency with it. Since red ring slingers are supposed to be mindless, I would think proficiency comes automatically, like their extensions of Atrocitus' power more than individuals in their own right. an, as has been pointed out, he didn't get out of that through any effort of his own.

Now, I hadn't seen him trying out a yellow ring if that's happened yet (haven't read SCW), but I might give him that one for having probably more experience with Sinestro than most other Lanterns.
So, calling him a Marty Stu might be a little premature, but we're early in this, so it's still a valid concern.

Something that's irked me is the Red Lantern who escaped on the last page of GLC last month looks way more like the guys from the Five Inversions than Atrocitus. Did anyone else catch this?

To be fair, as Paralax and having the entity riding with him for years, I think he has a greater understanding of fear than any of the other Yellow ring slingers. Then again that is my thought.

I don't know,

I could see it for a couple of the green and even sinestro.

Hal - The most obvious choice and the one most likely to be John's hero of the hour. Has fought hard for redemption so that he could be forgiven for betraying the corp. I think we may end up seeing him become the Ion of the spectrum. The one to find the balance. (Sadly this will go the way of the red/blue superman, but it is suggested in Legion (cant remember which boot) where there is a girl who controls all the emotional spectrum))

John - after his failure on Mosaic and death of his wife, John has often times felt guilty and like he has to prove something (see his arrogance). He was the first human "guardian of the galaxy" a dark star and then a lantern again, It could be he finally finds the inner peace to allow him to forgive himself.

Sinestro - Sinestro is a good villain because he, like lex luthor, aren't doing evil for evil's sake. Sinestro truly wanted peace and order on his home planet, that drove him to use his ring for negative reasons. Even as a Yellow Lantern he used his ring to conquer so that he could bring order. I think him picking up a green ring again would allow him to finally remember what being a Lantern is all about.

Mogo - Mogo has been threatened to be killed by Ranx in Blackest Night, while Sodom destroyed the physical body of Ranx, I think something remains and it will infect mogo, turn him into a sort of war world where Mogo accepts Ranx so that they can end the conflict in the end, but destroy both groups.

Guy - Guy is my pick because if you read Corpse they have slowly built him up as the greatest Lantern. He is Alpha of the honor guard, he is rash but people listen, he has really fallen into his own. I think we may see him lead the last charge of the light brigade ending and get a heroes send off. (I.E. Ted Kord) keep in mind he was one of the league of victims that DC seems to enjoy killing lately.

Meh, the feeling I've been getting these days from Guy is kind of a been-there-done-that type of thing, like he knows who he is and got over it a long time ago. If anyone's going to have self-esteem issues lately, it'd be Kyle, considering how everyone on Oa apparently forgot his whole Torchbearer status, his best friend got shot in the head and nobody told him about it, and yeah, he recently became Parallax after spending half the nineties trying not to do that. That's not even counting the fridged girlfriends, daddy issues, and ridiculous Hal comparisons.

Also, he was in Countdown.
