This is probably the weakest Blackest Night tie-in so far, mainly because it was a lot of recap.

It's still a solid issue. I'm also glad to see Jurgens acknowledge the existence of Daniel and Rose, much less follow up on them.

Also, is this Wonder Woman's first appearance in Booster Gold since issue 1?

So the Green Arrow/Black Canary wedding fiasco wasn't the first time Barbara attended a hero gathering. Since we know that people were still looking for Ted right before the Brainiac virus was removed, that there are at least three members of the JSA at the funeral, and this was before Barda's funeral...I'm not sure what it means. Just interesting, I guess.

Way to come across as sanctimonious as Booster is bothered that you seemed to be there Diana "We understand" only works if you get the sensation that you DO understand, and frankly, given your comments there, you really don't.

And I thought Batman might have said something at the funeral....

I like this, except for the part where Michael insults Barda. I really don't see what she could have improved on.

I do like the way Diana's portrayed, I think.

Booster totally should have opened his speech thanking Diana for kill Max. Just to watch Superman and Batman lose it. He should have just made his funeral speech off the top of his head

"So Di, thanks for killing Max. The rest of y'all suck. Especially YOU Batman! Guy, Ted loved you even though you were a dick. Oh, and Babs Ted loved you even though you were WITH Dick. Ted rocks, peace out, love Booster."

Soooo much exposition in this issue! Almost half the book was just playing catch up.

But, I love that costume, I love the zombie Bug and I love that the BB Gun made an appearance. Hope there's loads of that next issue and a lot less "Hey, did you guys know how Ted died?" story.

Man, that is not how I would've drawn the exchange with Diana. It could've been the best Diana I've read in ages, if not for the stupid smile.

Also, I cannot help but notice that Diana, Bea, and Barda all have the EXACT SAME LIPS. Women's faces: learn to draw them differently. (What was Barda up to during ICk, anyway? Ms-Not-Appearing-In-This-Crisis?)

As I have been well-trained by Bluefall, I must note: Diana's eyes. Are grey. Not blue. Thank you.

I was gonna buy this two-part BN tie-in, but now I'm not so sure.

And the emphasis on Diana there really bugs me. Not sure why. I think she comes across as quite grating and awful, here. It was meant to be sympathetic, but comes across as ... anything but.

There's some things I don't get here, I guess I'm weak without context. I hope Booster is lashing out in pain, because I didn't think anyone needed that, except of course maybe Bruce. Diana says and does nice, as expected, but looks a little patronizing.

And now J'onn, Barda and Bruce are also dead.

Ted was in love with Babs? I thought Ted just had feelings for her he was trying not to have, and that Babs was too hung up on Dinah/Dick to reciprocate. It's hard to accept Booster's internal monologue as canon because it is so clearly colored by his own emotions.

"I want to thank Diana for killing Max" - SAY IT, MICHEAL! JUST SAY IT!

Dear Diana,

Comforting: UR DOIN' IT WRONG.

Also, Raven called. She wants her old cloak back.

Seriously, if I were grieving over my best friend and some fuckstick came along and claimed to know what I was feeling and why I was feeling it,I'd have decked her one, superhero or no.

In fact, I rather badly want to punch that knowing little smile off her face. And I like Diana, usually, when she's not this awkwardly written.

I miss Ted, but I don't want to give Jaime up either.

See, this actually gets at something that always kind of bothered me about the Giffen Bwa-Ha-Ha league. Booster's right--put-downs and insults do hurt, and while I'm as big a fan of banter as anyone, being insensitive to someone's feelings is simply not the kind of thing I want to see my heroes doing. Giffen et al were extremely talented at writing sharp, witty dialogue, but in the context of the Justice League, I always felt that this distracted from the fact that these characters were human beings, first--and that maybe being mean to each other all the damn time wasn't actually the best way to organize a team whose primary responsibility was saving peoples' lives from serious threats.

There's really only two ways you can read the Bwa-Ha-Ha League: one, that they're just cartoon characters, who bounce around yelling insults at one another and facing comically-overblown crises, and nothing they do or say really matters. Or two, that they're real people, with histories and personalities, and they're just constantly at one anothers' throats, always cutting one another down and undermining their respect for one another. And if that second one is the case--as Booster is suggesting here--then that kind of behavior has serious consequences.

I love the character of Blue Beetle, particularly because he's very much a normal person who is doing the best he can, and he's constantly getting nothing but crap from everyone else. To be fair, he made plenty of bad decisions and may have grossly overestimated his own abilities any number of times, but he's generally portrayed as being treated like an incompetent fool by his colleagues, and that had to be painful. Frankly, I'm with Booster on this one; all those people who are looking so sad at Ted's funeral might have thought about treating him with more respect while he was still alive, instead of waiting until too late and then saying "Whoops, my bad."

Obviously I'm getting a bit ranty because this is sparking some deeply personal feelings for me, but I think it's a good bit of writing nonetheless and I like seeing it made canon. Go, Booster.
