"And then I was like"?

Dear Kevin Smith,

AQUAMAN DOESN'T TALK THAT WAY.

Yeah, I could buy that from Flash or Kyle or Plastic Man, but from Aquaman? That just ain't right.

Pretty sure that may be the Aquaman who replaced Orin and then quit.

What does "widening Gyre" refer to ?

I read this today and kept asking, "how does Bruce Wayne explain the scares, isn't it a give away?"

Kinda sorta spoilers....

Dictionary.com says a Gyre is a "ring or circle". The book so far has dealt with Bruce accepting a new vigilante in Gotham and Silver St. Cloud in his personal life, so it seems to refer to Batman embracing new people in his own personal circle.

As an aside, it also says in terms of oceanography, a gyre is "a ringlike system of ocean currents rotating clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and counterclockwise in the Southern Hemisphere". Since most of this issue takes place on an island, it could kinda hint at something else.

i thought the artist overdid the scars as well. in the previews, it was even more pronounced. it looked like he was mauled by several big cats.

I thought it might have something to do with this:

WB Yeats - The Second Coming

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

It's a line of poetry, one of many notable phrases from Yeats' The Second Coming:

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
(etc.)

Robert B. Parker titled one of his Spenser mysteries "The Widening Gyre" back in the day, and Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda also used it for an episode title.

"how does Bruce Wayne explain the scares, isn't it a give away?"

Depending on the writer, Bruce does spend time in dangerous sports like mountain climbing, driving (and crashing) race cars, etc.

Here is an example of why I think Aquaman (original recipe) will be revived by Blackest Night. He's just worth too much to DC - both in marketing purposes and in-universe. Even if he can't carry a title, he is one of the most instantly recognizable characters in their stable. You see the orange shirt and the blond hair and you know who it is - this was probably the reasoning in giving the new Artie Joe Aquaman the same exact look but since he didn't sell/work out, I'd say its a 99% given they'll bring Arthur/Orin back.

Besides when written well a guy who talks to Dolphins, rides giant sea horses and rules 3/4 of the Earth is fun to read.

Y'know between this and his appearance in Wednesday comics I think Aquaman should appear like this. He's a fun character when they do it right.

Hell give him a bit of his Batman The Brave and the Bold mindset and he'd be utterly awesome-r.

Never mind the dialogue, who's drawing this? The flowy, strandy, falling-over-the-eyes hair is annoying me.

Meh, I make the smutty jokes about Bruce and Dick, but never as a form of wish fulfilment, it's not something I ever fantasised about. To me they're father and son, and that's pretty much the end of it.

I still don't get it. WHEN are these Smith stories set?

Before Knightfall (with Orin), or before RIP/Final Crisis (with the OYL replacement)? If it's the latter, then the Aquaman tag with "Orin" in it is wrong. Sword of Atlantis Aquaman needs his own tag.

And if it is him, then where's his sword? And why wear the original Aquaman's outfit? Did the Dweller/Orin talk him into it? Or did he lose a bet with Lorena or something?
