First Wave

This is taken from the Source.

Not much info is given, but I assume this is an alternate Earth story where it is still the Golden Age. Doc Savage, the Spirit, and a golden age style Batman seem to be the main cast.

...Okay, incorrect "cut-rate Frank Miller" comment aside, nothing in that preview puts Savag in the "watching the poor suffer." I think that the writing here, the Batman description aside, is just describing the world that these characters inhabit, not who these characters are.

Yeah, I'd agree. It's misreading the blurb to think that "watching the poor suffer" refers to Doc. He funded more charities and free clinics and soup kitchens than all the other super-heroes put together. I wouldn't let that misinterpretation of a caption put me off this series.
