He's a jerk, but I will give Niles credit for the tricked out wheelchair.

*Wonders why Barbera's Wheelchair doesn't have cool crap like that built into it*

Because all the technology sloped off in a huff when it realised it was being out-cooled by Babs?

That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it.

Something he's always had. I have a feeling that, if I were Niles Caulder, given that sitting meant turning my back on someone somewhere, I'd arm anything I sat in even if I could walk.

This post made me go check out this issue, and then the three before it. This is a decent and legit take, IMO, and I like it. I especially like that they've gotten to this weird shit so quickly. I've been a DP fan since reading reprints in the 70s, though I couldn't stand the run of the later book till Morrison came on--and I still worship the Morrison run and think it's one of the most enjoyable comics ever.

I think the DP are special, and I get really annoyed when there are versions that suck, or even just mediocre. Like Byrne's run, particularly that awful part posted here a bit back with the quasi-pedophilic moment between Rita and Cliff, which would be bad enough, but also in the same story he has a chance not to have the accident and she talks him out of it for odd, and entirely selfish, reasons. I hated Byrne's Rita. Which was NOT Rita. And his strange was...the wrong kind of strange for DP.

The two things I think I like best in this is that Giffen has pursued the Chief-As-Dick angle, and Larry's rather fractured personality. Am I right in thinking Rebis is still part of what he is?

Yup. Dropped this as of last issue, and this is looking like I made the right choice. It's a bad sign when I'm rooting for the Black Lanterns on this one and think they're not being unfair manipulators but facing one, instead.

Sorry, Metal Men.

I don't know if it is good or bad, but I AM rooting for the black lantern here.

Seeing Niles Caulder die horribly never gets old. He's not a character that inspires affection.

First time: seemingly blown up. Second time: Candlemaker rips his head off, and quite painfully too. Third time, his legs are frozen, shattered(kind of funny since his reanimated head was kept on an ice tray for some time), and his heart is ripped out.

Seriously, he shouldn't even have any atoms left by now.

Well I'll be damned. It was Cliff's body. This is great stuff.

Kudos to whoever came up with that idea. I don't think ANYONE would have predicted that.

agreed.

I use to think all of Blackest Night was a waste of time (the specific breaking point for me was Donna's baby biting her in the neck).

But that kind of weird crap is owned by doom patrol, I can easily see their tie-in being the best.

I bought this for the ring. It was alright. I really liked the Metal Men backup though.

I dropped this book after the first issue. I picked this one up (yeah, it was for the ring) and I have to say the balance between the two stories works really well. I am back on board. Why does Robotman need pants ????

Just so you know, the artist on this one isn't Matthew Clark, it's Justiniano, I think it's spelt.

What heart?

BTW, Cliff has an advantage here, assuming Giffen has preserved Morrison's continuity(which, btw, painstakingly depended on all the past DP before him--unlike Byrne): Cliff not only hasn't a heart--last I saw there was a nutrient tank there--but the Candlemaker destroyed his brain. The Chief had preserved his consciousness--laughably, on what appeared to be a 5 1/2" floppy--and thus Cliff can back himself up, and upload himself to a new body.

There was some allusion to this in this issue, with Larry pointing out that Cliff's basically immortal, and Cliff telling Larry to shut up.
