Dark Reign: Young Avengers: The Finale
Four scans from Dark Reign: Young Avengers #5.

A big brawl breaks out between the Young Avengers and the Young Masters (plus Iron Patriot, Fake-Hawkeye, and Not-Wolverine):

Patriot makes for Norman:

Norman calls in Sentry; Coat of Arms decides to end this, so she pulls some sort of chain out of her coat, which she, Wiccan, and Enchantress II use to bind the Sentry and toss him...somewhere.  The Young Masters teleport away, what they'll do next ambiguous.

And now, the...ending, I guess:

Oookay.

::blinks at the last page:: ....That's an... interesting brand of fangirlism.

I assume it was made specifically so people could make icons for scans_daily.

Wiki sez:
The controversial single "Shoot the Dog", was a critical song about the friendly relationship between the US and the UK governments regarding the Iraqi War. In the animated music video for the song, Tony Blair is depicted as the "dog" that follows his "owner" George W. Bush everywhere.

... hmmm.

I dunno. Bush is on the right, his 'dog' is on the left while dancing. Guess she wants to be his dog, baby.

Thanks for doing the research for us! I sort of wondered if anyone was meant to necessarily get the joke (as amusing as it is in general to see that the insane girl sort of has a crush on Norman)... The single is only four years old but I don't know how popular it actually was in the UK and in any case I sort of figured Americans would be the target audience even if they did bring in a (pretty good) British writer.

Trust me, no, it was NOT popular over here.

That last page could have been a lot worse. Be thankful.

It may be because I'm an Englander too, but I can't help reading all of Melter's dialogue as British. Mayhap Cornell needs to sharpen his American speech-skills a bit.

I guess that last page would be cute if I knew WTF was going on.

Also, hey look. Sentry is now literally the deus ex machina.

Since Bob works for the bad guys, he'd be a Diabolus Ex Machina.

You tell him, Eli. Wow, between him and Phobos, it's like you need to be under eighteen to score hits on Osborne. His secret weakness: jailbait. I will follow this train of thought no further.

Kate beating up Bullseye in the background. <3

Also, in the old days, Osborne screamed 'Reynolds!' Now he's 'Bob'. It's cute how they've all grown together, or something.

Also, the Sentry is an awful superweapon. Like, he gets taken out with ridiculous ease all the damn time.

I have no words for the final page.

Indeed, for an all-powerful hero with no weaknesses other than being boring he sure is easy to render completely useless.

I dunno about no weaknesses, he seems to have very little resistance to telepathy or mind effects - he was completely captivated by Venus, for example.

I don't dislike the character, I quite like him, but he's... not being used very well. It is difficult, to plot around such a powerful character, I know.

"You tell him, Eli. Wow, between him and Phobos, it's like you need to be under eighteen to score hits on Osborne."

Don't forget that in the Dark Reign Fantastic Four mini that Franklin Richards actually SHOT him. Guy needs to pay more attention to the kiddies. Then again, he's always getting taken out by the younger people. I mean, how old was Spidey when he first started fighting Norman?

not only did Franklin shoot Osborn, Franklin shot Osborn with a toy gun that somehow managed to fire live ammo.

Loves it. I might have to get this trade when it arrives. Erm... a question. Do the Young Avengers still have their own title? Like, I know that this is a mini series, but yeah.

YA hasn't had it's own title for a loooooooooong time. But there's supposed to be another mini coming soon by the original writer.

Emphasis here is on 'supposed to be'. We've been promised a new YA title for a long time.

We were never given dates before, though. According to the most recent reports, it starts in July of next year.

I mean he didn't even flip the fuck out about Melter's SPIDER-MAN t-shirt.Isn't Osborn supposed to be slowly descending back into madness?? so how come he didn't freak out over the shirt with spideys face on it?? Maybe its because he doesn't know who spiderman is anymore or maybe my idea of Osborn isn't right but i could totally see him interrupting the fight with a pissy little tantrum about the spiderman t-shirt. Idk....Patriot hitting Osborn was the best fucking moment ever. and makes the weird fangirl dream/acid trip at the end okay.....for me anyway.
