What if a targets in a high population area though? Drop a gamma bomb in and you can march your troops in later and pick him up, no fuss no muss. Given all the crap we get for blowing up terrorists who hide next to schools, hospitals or other targets that provide great proproganda tools when blown up, how would the army not love a weapon that creates no PR disasters?

As for Rick Jones, bear in mind this was an early stage bomb. Bruce thought it might only destroy buildings, and had no idea that it would actually turn someone into a reflection of their subconscious self image. He had a ways to go with regards to research ;)

Aren't most schools and hospitals multi-level structures? Wouldn't there be loss of life (I hate the term collateral damage) anyway?

Maybe it's because I'm a Marine veteran, but it seems to me if, as a society, you commit to an act of war then you are also committing to killing "innocent" people. The one truth of war is that people who are just in the way die too. I won't go on a rant, but in the first Gulf War when the news networks were up in arms about two stray bombs hitting a school, my first thought was, "We must be the only generation who ever cared about this during a WAR!"

I might not have made myself clear, and also might've unintentionally insulted you (Bad Beer!), and if so, I apologize. I do want to point out that I don't think that your comments were "idiotic". They are just different from mine and come from a different set of experiences. To be honest -- while I might not agree with you much -- I'm kinda a daningram fan. OK, the last was a BIT too much, but you get my point. :)

I am awfully inarticulate when I drink. Please, don't judge me harshly. :)

Hey, I'm not disagreeing (and don't worry, not offended ;)). When a terrorist launches an attack from inside a school or hospital, they are morally responsible for the damage incurred in the counter attack. No question in my mind.

If you're a marine, then you likely know first hand how modern insurgent tactics are steeped in hypocrisy. Attack from a crowd, next to a school etc and then use the resultant corpses in Youtube proproganda films. And because basic math seems to escape people, it works!

Gamma bombs, if they had functioned as desired, would help curb that while giving the US the moral high ground. And while no army should hesitate to kill their enemies, they should also be willing to take them alive if possible. Live prisoners give better intel, improve our image and undermine their ability to operate.

Though of course someone would bitch about the lost history, but can't win them all!
