Is it just me or does Richard look different than usual? Not in the suit but in face.

Okay, I'll admit: the coffee joke was easy, and predictable, but I still chuckled.

I am so torn on this mini. Sometimes the characterization is good... other times, not so much.

>_< They TRIED to offer an explanation..Prometheus is twisting them around! I'm a bit tired of 'and then it turned out Hal was possessed again'. Though yeah, at that point in the story I was going 'guess that fragment of Parallax in your battery is getting to you, hunh?'

That's Jay and Joan?

Okay, fairly new Flash fan here and I've not seen Jay in action since before Bart became The Flash for a year. Bearing that in mind...
Can someone explain why The Garricks seem to be getting decades YOUNGER? I mean, they used to say Jay's age was slowed due to his meta gene, but unless he's got a good hair dye job going for him and the better half...plus plastic surgery....um...wtf?

Is this supposed to be taking place when Wally was just a gleam in Rudolph's eye?

They're suffering from the Kent syndrome. When Smallville was at its height, the Kents were suddenly in their late 40s and had blonde hair with only a touch of grey but with Smallville waning (and John Schneider gone from the show) the Kents went back to 60 or 70-somethings. It's all up to Editorial to set the look or the artist (if Editorial is asleep on the job). Jay should look like he's in his 50s at least (greying but in good shape) while Joan should be in her 70s or 80s.

The fact that the remaining JSA members (particularly Ma Hunkle, Alan and Molly and Jay and Joan) are tied to the WWII era makes it relatively easy to guess their age (and hard to de-age them without the use of magic). Jay looks like Ray Palmer here and that really shouldn't be.

He may be immortal, but even immortals age. And if something may be disrupting his magic, he may get affected to.

Except that it's part of his backstory that the Shade *doesn't* age. He looks just like he did when he got his shadow-powers, and just like he will in a 1000 years when Starboy encounters him.

That's an odd look for Jay. Skintight shirt? Way more muscular than usual, too.

Yay! Shade and Jay <3 I've sort of desperately waited for them to meet again (and actually talk to each other and not just attend the same funerals).

But sideburns? Okay, Shade is a Victorian, but he's never had facial hair before. And I wish artists would be consistent in how old they portray him. But other than that, I kind of love the art, especially in the last panel. The way Shade's standing there with his hands behind his back and smirking and just telegraphing supressed glee - "The world is ending but I'm having coffee with the Flash!"

I know that clothes in comics often look painted on, but something about the art makes Jay's shirt look especially weird for it.

His pants don't look much better, but at least the yellow/red of his shirt/body paint distracts from that a bit. Until you actually think about it.

I wonder if it's the fact that he's the only one in body paint, while everyone else in the scene is wearing normal clothes in a realistic setting?

Shade looks at least twenty years older, and Jay looks like he's in his mid-thirties.

Nice art, but THEY DON'T LOOK LIKE THEIR USUAL SELVES, DAMMIT

Yeah, he's rocking the Boris Karloff look a little too much there.

...Or maybe not enough.
