A really sweet little story by George Perez and Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez that I read the other day and thought y'all might like.

Six pack! Woot!

(note, this is from an oversized annual)

Collected, along with many other cool stories, in the pretty Wonder Woman: Destiny Calling.

I have said this before, but, seriously, can we get Garcia-Lopez to draw everything? Please?

I think, in all of this, I actually love the last panel the most. Nessie, not really through any fault of her own, being totally flippant and callous about what are, for her, cool stories and pretty statues; Diana, a little awed by the history that shaped her people and the responsibilities that imparts to her; and Phillipus, remembering two very real women who died for her, one of whom she clearly loved very much. That stark contrast between the tourist and the local and the storyteller is really cool.

Hmmm, do you think they romantically loved each other, or that Phillipus' love for her was platonic?

Always difficult to say with amazons, but this story always gave me a sense of "okay, so this is what Phillipus is trying to live up to," and the claim she makes on her - "our captain" - is very much an admiring one that puts Egeria on a slightly higher level. So my take is "awesome big sister who looked out for me and I wanted to be like and I'll be awesome at her job in her honor."

... on the other hand, of course, that's not all that dissimilar to her dynamic with Polly. Still, I think Perez was playing up a platonic connection here (I think he was with Phillipus-Polly, too, for that matter).

I get the feeling a lot of the time that Phillipus is carrying a torch for Poly that she knows can never be quenched.

But I can't stop thinking of the tok'ra...
