Spoilers: Batman Annual #27

DC's The Source has a preview up for Batman Comics Annual #27, which is continued in (thank you, [info]kingrockwell) Detective #11.

From the entry:
Writer Fabian Nicieza and artist J. Calafiore present a tale of a murdered priest. A desecrated grave marker. A kidnapped child. A secret key. A mystery whose solution could upset the world order. For Batman and Robin to stop the rampage of a zealot named Amon, the Sixth Sinner, they first have to halt a deadlier foe intent on making sure Amon succeeds. To end the killer’s mad scheme, Batman faces Azrael, Death’s Dark Knight.

I'm intrigued. Kind of looks like it might be a fun mystery with some interesting character moments.

I admit it, I did a total double-take at Dick being called Richard.

Incidently, I love how Harvey's being written here. I have a soft spot for that guy :)

When he's written well, it's really fun.

Same. I think I've only ever heard Damian calling him "Grayson" . . .

I think every author's trying to hit the right level of rudeness in the name. But then, Damian might be doing that too, trying out different levels of obnoxious, seeing what name irritates Dick or makes him (Damian) feel equal.

I really don't understand why Damian doesn't call Dick . . . well, "Dick." I mean, come on! With even the tiniest bit of snideness, it's still way more effective than calling him "Richard."

The 'Robin and Batman' also caught my eye.

Some months into this and I still (despite my wholehearted attempts) can't see anyone else with pointy ears and the Batcave computer be Bruce. It took my mind a full minute to accept it was Richard.

Yeah too good for a simple murder. Like your GRANDPARENTS and the current Batman's parents, and a lot of your other grandparent's victims.

I really don't like you Damien.

And Damian's victims, don't forget them. *nod*

Oh, no. I hadn't even thought of it that way, but the and 'your other grandparents' victims' is a really brilliant finish, there. Good work.

We could also probably include some murder(s) *by* Damian, but that would be wrong.

I just try not to think about the times the little ten year old bastard killed members of the League of Assassins.

I like how Damien puts his name first with the whole, "...the attention of Robin and Batman..." Little brat. I still love his green boots, though, and I DON'T KNOW WHY.

Wonderful echoes here of both Dick and Jason (I don't think it was ever a Tim issue), as I believe they have both asked that question or one similar to it at seperate times when very young. I'm interested to see how Dick deals with it.

Dick asked about why a murder should be investigated? After his parents were... well, murdered?

Or am I completely lost here. Which is possible.

One similar to it being a seemingly small crime. To Damian with his background, I'm sure a single murder would qualify.

Tim and Dick had a convo in RIP where they'd stopped a dog-napping ring or something and Dick enjoyed it and Tim was frustrated they were wasting their time.

Why does Damian look so much older here?

God, I hate him. There is nothing in this world that could diminish the amount of hate in my heart that I hold for Damian Wayne, except maybe him losing his Robin position. Ugh.

I'm secretly harbouring the desire that when Bruce comes back, Damien will get killed off. And he'll never get a trophy in the Bat-cave because nobody really cares.

Nonono! Don't give the writers that idea! They'll only twist it to make him a martyr and that's the worst possible idea. Bruce should drag him back to his mom kicking and screaming like the spoilt brat he is and never mention his name again.

I'd like to see someone take a page from the Silver Age and just do a cover of Batman taking that punk over his knee and spanking him.

You know, it's weird, but Dini's the only writer who has made me consider liking Damian. Everyone else seems inclined to make him unlikeable, so it seems strange that Dini is sort of taking the opposite approach.

They are really going for the odd couple routine with dick and damian. I love their clashing personality, which is interesting.

Damian I'm starting to like you, please don't make me regret that.

Bah, I'm more excited by the Nguyen feature in the annuals.
And why is the Bat-chair so small? Is Dick not up to using Brucie's big chair?

I think Dick had the Bat-throne and every other chair in the Bat-cave replaced and placed in storage because otherwise Damien would pester Dick to allow him to sit in the chair instead of him.

Alfred is a practical man. He thought, hey why not take it to the upholsterer while Bruce is away and won't miss it? That way it can be in prime condition for his return!
