More Jason and Tim interaction...
As written by Fabian Nicieza.

From Robin 177, 182 and 183. Nine scans from three issues.

Jason gets shot in the leg and arrested, etc.

I love the interaction between the two at the jail for some reason. It makes me laugh.

So um why did Tim bust Jason out of a jail sentence he rightfully deserved?

Because Bruce would have wanted it. No seriously, that's why.

I wouldn't have minded it so much if it hadn't coincided with Tim telling Steph she isn't worthy of heroing because she made mistakes. Apparently it's okay for Jason to mess up, but not anyone with mammaries.

Because Jason would have got out on his own eventually (seriously, apparently Arkham can't keep its inmates in for more than a couple of days in a row, how long would it have taken a Bat to get out of a normal prison?), so Tim figured "if I help him out as a gesture of good will, maybe he'll go straight".

It even seemed to be working, Jason was considerably nicer to Tim in the Cave than he had ever been. Too bad Tony Daniels got to him and ruined everything.

I'm more interested in the Brady Bunch comparison Timmy made there. It's just so wonderfully apt.

"Nightwing would clean his clock."

You'd THINK so wouldn't you, Bruce Jones?

*goes back to denying his existence*

And uh, oh hai there craji chicken Jason. Thinks like a blunt instrument, my ass. Only when you're in the hands of shitty writers who llike to use you to show off other characters. And Tim's a genius all by himself, he doesn't even need the Brady comparisons to make him awesome.

Aand this was followed Squabble for the Cowl, where we learn that Tim went to all that trouble just so Bruce could tell Jason that he needs a shrink. Pot has been wanting to speak to Kettle about that for a while now, buddy.

I wish you'd stayed dead, Jason, just to stop them mucking with you.

Nicieza isn't a shitty writer at all (quite the opposite imho). Letting Jason out was an editorialy mandated thing so he could participate in that Battle for the Cowl garbage.

Yeah, this is written by Nicieza.

Also, that's Tim saying Jason thinks like a blunt instrument. He also later praises Jason to Alfred. As well, Nicieza has Jason saying Tim did a good job on creating the community centres, etc.
Jason is trying to do good in this -- clean up Gotham -- he even has a good plan to do it, and admits it will be "ugly."
I dunno, this still seems very Under the Hood Jason to me. *shrugs*

And I would agree that Nicieza's anything but a shitty writer.

see even here, they were working to redeem Jason, then BFTC happened, and they made him crazy again. the one good th ing about countdown was the growing of Jason Todd as a character, and in the very last issue they back pedal him. In Robin, he sincerely wants to save gotham, yes his methods are very extreme and twisted, but he did try to reach out to Tim... and Tim gave him a second chance. BUt they they backtrack again and make him Glock-Wielding Batman.... why work to make him grow when all they do is take him one step forward and three steps back?

he thinks like a blunt instrument

Dingdingdingding! Characterization fail has been sensed. Please provide adequate explanation for Tim's blindness or stop painting "Jason = violent & dumb" all over the Gotham horizon.

Seriously, wtf? Jason's not subtle, but he's sharp.

Also, on Jason not being able to break out of jail: LOL. Jason is running circles around Tim, and that's that.

How about

"Well, let's see how my replacement is doing? Now how shall I go about it? Observe his actions as a hero? See how he interacts with other heroes?" How do 'Batman and Robin' function? Nah, those are too obvious. I know, I'll sneak up on him and kick the shit out of him."

Or how about

"How can I pay Batman back for the personal affront of not avenging me? I know, I'll become a murdering supervillain who supplies Kryptonite, Amazos and other stuff to other bad guys".

::sigh:: I love it when Jason gets to interact with these guys on a regular emotional level.

And I have to defend Fabian Nicieza here, it seems like he often gets accused of agreeing with characters when he's just writing what the other character would say. Tim saying that Jason is "dumb enough" to do something doesn't necessarily mean that Jason is being written as hopelessly dumb, especially since smarty-pants Tim openly says that he used Jason's idea. None of these guys talk about each other in a truly objective way ever.

HAHA!

Would you believe I just pretty much wrote this in reply, except you summed it up much better.

Exactly, I completely agree. Also the fact that Jason is the one who then tells Tim he did good by using Wayne money to try and stop the gang problem. Even Jason's idea to get rid Gotham of both gangs and corrupt cops is one that has to be well-planned/thought out, obviously. I don't get the sense Nicieza's writing him as dumb at all.

I really love these issues, even if the artist/colourist has obviously had some issues with the last page (Babs' costume has a yellow bat not a black one and yellow gloves, Jason's costume had no up collar and he's managed to Jason in where it's Tim speaking.) It just doesn't tie into the BftC thing with Jason at all though.
