The Fantastic Reed #571

Four scans from Fantastic Four #571.

Jonathan Hickman and Dale Eaglesham's run hits issue #2, as Reed continues his adventures with the consortium of alternate Reed Richardses.

First, they visit a planet that one of the Reeds has converted into a giant farm to feed other worlds.  Reed is impressed at how many people this planet must feed.

Later, Reed and co. pop into another universe and defeat the local Dr. Doom, fitting him with a nifty collar that destroys all his higher brain functions.

They then head off to grow to super-macro size and perform surgery  on a universe, extracting some fringe dark matter that would have caused it to collapse, thus averting catastrophe and saving 8 billion people (seems a bit low, but maybe it's a young universe).

Finally, the Reeds tell Reed that he's now seen the best stuff they do (scan #1), the worst (#2), and the scale of their activities; now he has to decide whether he wants to join.  Reed ultiamtely decides that he does.  His welcoming celebration is interrupted:

This run's off to a good start, though, as you might guess by the post title, the rest of the group still feel like little more than cameos.  Hickman's got a great handle on Reed, and, from what little we see of the others, them as well, so hopefully once this arc is over we'll see the focus shift elsewhere.

*snorts*

That page with all the Dooms makes me think of the seagulls from Finding Nemo. "MINE?"

I'm suddenly picturing them all chasing after someone with the Infinity Gauntlet.

"Doom? DOOM! DOOM! DOOM! DOOM! DOOM!"

Then then they all run into a wall.

"Doom?"

The Celestials are a surprise. And at least a distraction from what I figure the main event. The Reed with some of Doom' DNA reveals he's evil and uses the captured Doom's as his army of Doombots.

Our Reed looks amazingly in shape I have to say.

Are the Celestials even a threat at this point? Their are Reed's with Infinity Gauntlets and possibly Ultimate Nullifiers in this group.

Also DoomReed will totally betray the group.

They're kinda giving him a more Doc Savage/Tom Strong look, which I'm diggin a lot. :D

They did mention that the Infinity Gauntlets only work in their universes of origin. That means a maximum of one (and maybe not even that) could be in play wherever the Reeds' base is.

I'd also like to add that the, "I've got some Doom in me" line is soooooo very gay.

It's like Reed Richards can't help being an ass whenever he's a part of a secret society.

And, yeah, putting that many Dooms in one place isn't going to bite anyone in the ass.

Nope, not at all.

They haven't inducted Ultimate Reed into their little group yet, I see. Maybe there's an age requirement.

And all Latveria is coming with them!

Seriously, those Dooms will either provide the extra-power to defeat the Celestials or in the aftermath of the battle, they'll somehow be released and battle the Reeds to the death. (I hope for that one.)

"This is wrong." Oh really Reed? Cough: 42, Clor. Cough. Choke on your hypocrisy!

I'm thoroughly entertained by the "Who made you?" panel (Page 3, center panel)... because I heard AC/DC there, apparently 'as sung by ZZ Top' in that Reed's universe.

I don't really follow FF stuff (largely because Reed bugs me) But are there any female Reeds in that universe? Or the gay one that married Johny in some universe I forget where they showed?

So far, in these few excerpts, I'm seeing more interesting ideas than (as far as I can tell) Millar had in his entire run. Not sure why the Celestials would be a threat to a Reed/Doom hybrid with an Infinity Gauntlet, though...
