He saw all of the possibilities. He could tell her about her future. Really? The very thought of it stilled Felix's heart for a moment, the idea weighing heavily on her chest. She couldn't help but think of the power of that knowledge, of what it would mean for her anxiety and mistrust of herself, of her abilities, of her stability. He could tell her if she ever lost it and flattened a city. If she ever ended up a hero like Vance, like Elijah. Or could he? She wondered how much he could tell her. She wondered how much more Arkin saw than Elijah's five minutes, or if he knew which of the possibilities he saw was most likely.
Felix wrestled with herself. If this was who she thought it was, then she wasn't sure what to do. She was desperately curious to hear where she might be headed in her life, but she felt a sort of... hesitance. She'd met the daughter of Elijah's old partner. A girl, a few years older than Felix, a girl who'd struggled when her dad went to jail. Was this man a killer? Should she even be here sitting with him? Was it safe?
Should she tell him she thought she knew who he was? That she thought she knew his daughter? Should she leave? Was he even supposed to be out of prison? Was he dangerous? Felix vaguely recalled hearing something recently about the First Class Fighters, but Dad kept pretty tight-lipped about Arkin or else Felix wouldn't be quite so uncertain about everything right now.
Whatever kind of person Arkin was, she knew she shouldn't ask about her future. She knew his offer was dangerous, that that kind of information could ruin a person, but the way he'd looked up at her as he'd offered... Felix felt hungry curiosity twisting at her, pulling.
"I don't... know what that kind of knowledge would do to me," Felix said, surprising herself with her own honesty.
He represented a temptation that would probably be very bad for her, but she wanted to indulge anyway. That was not smart. Keep it light, Felix. Those are dangerous waters. She put on a more casual smirk and leaned back in her chair.
"Besides, that seems pretty intimate to discuss over coffee," Felix commented, and smiled in a way that was meant to be distracting more than it was flirtatious. One of the quickest ways Felix had found to diffuse serious situations was to be just a little bit inappropriate. It seemed to throw people off.
