When the man--Arkin--pulled her chair out for her and made the comment about preferring for people to get what they want, Felix's smile returned again, sneaking back onto her face without her quite even noticing. She fought the urge to say something bratty, even though some part of her thought this would be a good opportunity to flirt. There was a double entendre in there somewhere about how Felix liked to get what she wanted, but it didn't come to her smoothly and she didn't want to stumble over it.
"Well, it's nice to meet you, Arkin. I'm Felix," she said instead. Part of her wondered why he hadn't asked her name in return, but she decided not to make anything out of it. Perhaps he'd just expected her to naturally reciprocate.
Besides, he'd called her beautiful. Felix felt her cheeks warm a little, and her smile grew further. Of course, he'd also called her 'young lady', and she wasn't sure she'd been called that by anyone but authority figures before. How young did he think she was? If he thought she was beautiful, odds were he didn't think she was too young.
His next question suggested he didn't think she looked like she belonged in Haven, though. Felix couldn't help but wonder, after so many years with Elijah, attending the academy, going to college, did she look different now than the people in Haven? She'd spent the first few years of her life relatively poor, surrounded by people like this, in a much lower socioeconomic tax bracket than she was in now. Had something intangible worn off on her from the privileged life she now led? She distantly figured she'd lost that air of desperation. Maybe she'd even grown a little entitled, though Felix didn't want to think that of herself. Perhaps that was why she spent time in Haven, when she could.
"No particular reason, really. I live around here, and it seemed like a nice day for a walk," Felix said, only a little it slyly. It was mostly true. Isle wasn't far from Haven, after all, just a few blocks in the richer direction. "And service aside, I start every day with coffee. It's a necessity."
That said, Felix lifted her fresh coffee to her lips and took a drink. Mmm, caffeine. The sip bought her a moment to consider what question she should ask him in return.
"You know, the scales are a little uneven right now," Felix said, carefully focusing on unwrapping her apple turnover instead of watching Arkin for a reaction. "So hopefully you'll forgive my bluntness when I ask if you, like so many others in Haven, are here because you have... under-appreciated special talents?"
It was nosier and bolder than Felix would be normally--she liked her privacy so she tended to respect the privacy of others--but Arkin had already commented on the errant gust of wind, and she thought in some capacity, that justified a little curiosity. Besides, he'd asked what brought her to Haven. She'd just asked basically the same thing of him. More or less.
