Who: August and Toby What: Toby's freaking out, yay Thanksgiving. When: BACKDATED to Thanksgiving Where: Foster center Warnings: Language because August. Status: In progress.
August had only been gone for a couple of hours, really. He'd been taking a walk around, checking things out, trying to find someone who'd let him bum a smoke because of the goddamn Orwellian American government and their strict IDing policies. He'd already come to terms with the fact that he couldn't drink over here (as easily as in England) but he hadn't yet realized that he couldn't buy smokes and he didn't know anyone of age yet.
Luckily he happened upon a girl who was old enough to buy a pack but broke, and August had money but he wasn't old enough, so with teamwork he scored half a pack of Newports. There was nothing like your first drag of a cigarette when you hadn't smoked in a few weeks. August sagged back against the side of the convenience store and closed his eyes while he smoked, savoring every cancer-causing drag.
Then he got a message from his brother. Several, actually. Frowning, concerned, August finished the cigarette quickly, enjoying the little head rush he got from power-puffing, and flicked it onto the ground. Converse sneakers that were maybe two weeks from disintegrating crushed it and he jogged across the street, making a beeline for the foster center. He wasn't very far away, maybe a few blocks. It didn't even take him ten minutes to get back.
Those few hours he'd been gone were long enough to give him a little sheen of silver, barely enough across his forehead to make him glitter a little, the same effect going up and down his arms. He looked a little like that "vampire" from Twilight, unfortunately. Deodorant helped a little but his armpits were still starting to get silver. He didn't know what was going on, but he didn't feel like he was dying so he assumed he'd be fine. No need to worry. Maybe it was the food over here or something.
He found Toby quickly, going to his room and getting to his side. "What's wrong?" he asked him right away, reaching out for his twin.
