It was true Vance Faraday lived for the spectacle of life, and his birthdays tended to be no exception. His Sweet Sixteen had been in the news for weeks and his twenty-first birthday had rag mags speculating just how outrageous it would be for months prior. Of course, there had been a big bash, but Atlas remained true to that popular philanthropic side of himself and anything that came of it (photographs, presents) went to charitable organizations. It wasn’t a big secret that as much as he loved attention, he had been raised well by all parents.
After such a bonanza as a twenty-first birthday, a quiet twenty-second birthday sounded like the perfect idea, and being back in New Waverly made it all the more imperative to him that it remain private. Despite being Atlas, there were few that Vance really counted among his friends, and half of them he’d only met recently upon his return to the city. Others, such as Sky, had been members of Stars and Stripes alongside him for years and were like family to him. So it felt only right to merge the two. And as his birthday fell on Father’s Day this year, he had no interest in upstaging Elijah, who also deserved to be recognized, having his own invitees along. If it hadn’t been for him, there was no telling where he and Felix would’ve ended up. His devotion to his father was unquestionable.
So a small party was held in a bar down the street from Rockwell’s YMCA center. This neighborhood was familiar to Vance for the amount of time he spent at that center. It was unusually low-key, but fitting, considering the amount of work the Faraday men tended to put into helping others. Some of the children who attended here were supers themselves, making it all the more important for Vance to be an active role model. Vance entered the bar having just come from the center, playing basketball and hanging with the kids (not for too long, though, because bullet wounds needed time to heal). There was a private room in the back, and while patrons gave him high five as he walked past, there was an unspoken agreement that his private matters, and the privacy of those attending, were to be respected.
He dropped his gear in the corner and chatted it up cheerfully with a bartender as the evening rolled in.
