Bianca was having a bad day. And, she was just glad it was over, and she could head home now. It just felt like everything had gone wrong. Her alarm hadn’t gone off, meaning she’d almost been late that morning. And, she’d had a pounding headache all day. Which painkillers just didn’t seem to be touching. Still, she decided to enjoy the sunshine and walk home. She’d just gotten a coffee, and was almost home when her phone beeped. The message from Jake made her smile for the first time or day. And, she was concentrating on typing a reply when she felt the first drop of water.
“Oh, come on!” She yelled at the sky. As she ran to find shelter. She had not expected to need her umbrella today.
Shrieking at the sudden torrential downpour, Daisy ran for a nearby alcove. “Hey,” she offered the other occupant of that little bit of shelter a smile as she reached out her hand, trying to use her powers to push the rain away from them.
“Hey,” Bianca smiled back at the woman who had joined her under the alcove, before pulling her wand out to help keep the rain at bay. Summoning a shield charm, she relaxed before using a hot-air charm to dry herself off.
“Do you want me to dry you off, too?” She offered, tilting her wand in Daisy’s direction.
Well, if she was going to be stuck in the rain with someone, it might as well be a witch. Daisy grinned at the other woman as she nodded. She might not know Bianca extremely well, but she knew she was from the same timeline as Phil and everyone knew her parents. Daisy couldn’t get through the day without a stop at Snoozle and Cappie was, well, Cappie. Her part-time training gig on base meant she knew the other woman’s name, at least.
Bee quickly cast the hot air charm again, drying her companion off. “You’re friends with FitzSimmons, right?” She realised as she studied the other woman. She’d been trying to match the younger faces with the older versions that she knew. Daisy was one of those people that were always around. But, she’d seen her around whenever she’d spent time with Phil’s family when they were kids.
“Well, I usually just go by Daisy,” she joked as she nodded her thanks. It felt a lot better to be dry again. Getting caught out in a freak rainstorm wasn’t totally her idea of a good time, but at least she was dry now.
“That was it. I’m still getting used to putting names to younger faces.” Bianca exclaimed. “I was in the same year as Phil at school. So, I saw you around a bit when we were kids. But, not a lot.”
Daisy nodded at that. Coming back in time like that must have felt weird, with seeing people you knew in the future so young. She was glad most of the future kids seemed to be adjusting to it okay.
Bee frowned out at the rain, wondering where the hell it came from, and when it would end. “Where were you heading, this doesn’t look like it’s going to let up any time soon.”
“Nowhere special,” Daisy said with a shrug. Looking at the sky, she agreed with Bianca’s assessment. The rain didn’t seem likely to stop anytime soon. Half-jokingly, she added, “maybe you could just magic us up some umbrellas.”
Bee thought about it briefly. It wasn’t something she’d ever tried to conjure before. But, completely worth trying to do. And, she was pretty good at thinking on her feet.
“Worth a go,” she grinned, before muttering and incantation and waving her wand...and nothing. “Yeah, nope. Don’t know how to do that one.”
“Damn.” Daisy shrugged. It had been a long shot, half-joke anyway. “Guess that means we’re stuck here for a while, huh?”
“Looks like it.” Bee shrugged, “However, I can magic us up a couple of chairs.” She grinned as she conjured up two chairs with a wave of her wand. “I have no idea why I can do that, but not umbrellas. Magic is weird sometimes.”
“You’re already ahead of me there. My powers aren’t much good for waiting out a rainstorm,” Daisy offered as she took a seat in one of the chairs. Even having read the Harry Potter books as a kid, Daisy didn’t know how their magic worked. Most of her work training people with that kind of power worked on helping them learn to focus more and be more confident in their abilities. It was also why she worked more with mutants like Lauren. She understood the nature of her kind of power a lot better.
“It probably didn’t help that I didn’t get to go to Hogwarts”, Bianca said. “Everyone here did their best. But, the school concentrated on muggle things more than magic.” Not that Bianca minded, she knew what she needed to know. And, knew how to learn the stuff she didn’t. Or, who to ask.
The rain soon turned into a drizzle, instead of a downpour. “Looks like we might be able to make a dash for it soon.”
“I’m game if you are,” Daisy said with a grin. Thanks to her training, she could run pretty fast, hopefully fast enough to avoid getting too wet as she headed from the alcove to the nearby housing towers.
With a nod Bee dashed after her, easily keeping up due to her training in the resistance. And, all that running away she’d had to do to avoid getting caught. With a wave to Daisy, she headed into her own tower, already planning on grabbing a coffee on the way up.
