Gene was in a foul mood as he stomped his way down the hallway leading to Alex's room. He glared at the couple walking by as they pointed at him and whispered to themselves, flashing them the V in annoyance. As he banged on her door with his small fist, he barked out, "Open up! Police!"
Truthfully, Alex had not expected him to try that bit when he looked like an 8 year old. Alex reminded herself that she was going to have to not laugh at him when he came in. Even though she figure that was going to be a tall order. Coming to the door, she opened it and looked down as it did so. Yes. Tall order was right. "Not quite as intimidating right now, sorry." She said with a shake of her head. "Very funny," he grumbled, pushing past her as he entered the room. Gene paced back and forth in frustration, then turned and pointed at his girlfriend. "Why me? What is this... slap Gene day again? It's bad enough that I was a woman for a while in Daytona, but now I'm a kid again? I swear to God, Bolly... if this doesn't wear off soon, someone's getting my boot up their arse!" "Probably because you're there. They most likely chose at random. Or perhaps its because you were previously changed. Who knows?" Alex closed the door and tried to hold any and all laughter down. "Trainers," she corrected. She really needed to stop but it was funny. His voice was squeaking. "None of my clothes fit me. This was all I could find in a hurry." His expression darkened at the way she was trying not to laugh, but he couldn't really blame her. Gene grumbled and turned around, climbing up onto the couch so he could sulk. Admittedly, some part of her mind knew that it wasn't fair for her to make fun of him for this. None of this was his doing. With one final chuckle, Alex forced herself to stop. She took a seat on the couch next to him and tilted her head to the side. "Have you found out if anyone else was effected?" "Handful of people. Most decided to go play and there was somethin' about a snowman that moves." Gene sighed and rubbed a hand over his face. "Got any scotch, Bols? Could use a drink right about now." "Well not every day you get to be a child again," Alex pointed out. When he asked for a drink, she gave him a look. "Um... no. Body of an eight year old." Gene balled up his hands into fists and pressed them against his knees as he fought down the rising urge to angrily lash out at someone or something. "I don't want to be a kid again, Alex," he finally commented softly. "Wasn't that great the first time around and it's worse now because I've got you. What if I'm stuck like this? What're you going to do... wait until I grow up?" Alex reached over and put a hand on Gene's shoulder. "First, if there's anything we learned in Florida, it's that these things don't last forever. I'd bet if we asked these things have happened here before too and have changed back. Second, this isn't your childhood, you're not a kid in your head. Just physically. And if you got changed there's a way to change you back. We just have to find it." "I think it might be easier if I was a kid in me 'ead," he replied with a sigh. Gene moved to raise his arm so she could tuck herself in against his side, but frowned when he remembered the size difference. Instead, he settled for wrapping an arm around Alex's waist and rested his head against her shoulder. "Yes but then you couldn't help. You might be running about in the school yard instead." Alex wrapped an arm around Gene and rubbed his back in small gentle circles. "It's going to be alright," she promised. "Worse comes to worse, we'll work with the scientists here to fix it. There's enough brain power here." "Speakin' of kids, where's Cooper's little one? Takin' a nap or somethin'?" he asked curiously. Anwen had been staying with Alex ever since Gwen had gone off on her secret mission with the rest of the people on that team. "She's in the other room sleeping. Just got her down for a nap a little while ago. I think she misses her mum," Alex replied with a sigh. "Every time I get near the window she starts looking around like she knows someone is missing." Abby • Tue, 4:48 PM "I'm sure she does. She's a good kid though and I'm sure Gwen misses 'er too." Gene closed his eyes, finally starting to relax thanks to Alex. "Whenever she wakes up, we're going to have to feed her," Alex said as an afterthought. She knew that keeping things as normal as possible for Gene would be important right now. Including him in the action in spite of the sudden age reduction. "Could just order in a pizza," he suggested. "Kid loves the stuff. But then again, it's no surprise considering Gwen said that 'er and Jack ate it constantly." "Better than the food we usually have on a stakeout," She admitted. "Are you hungry?" "There's nothin' wrong with bacon butties or fish and chips while on stakeout," Gene countered. He opened his eyes and looked up at her, giving a brief nod. "I could do with somethin' to eat. Stomach's startin' to think me throat's been cut." "Except that it makes the car smell heavily," she tilted her head to the side daring him to argue. "Well let's fix that." Alex grabbed her phone and started to find the number for the usual pizza place. "You would've rather spent hours in a car with Ray or Chris instead of me?" he teased, giving her a knowing look. "Listening to Ray ramble on about his latest manly exploit? Chris might not have been so bad." She teased. "Chris was a div. Mind you, the lad tried hard. But 'e was still a div." Gene paused as she ordered the pizza for them. "Get a couple of Cokes too, Bols." Waiting for the phone to pick up, Alex rolled her eyes at Gene. All of them had potential and he knew it. When the phone on the other end was finally picked up and Alex was able to put in her order, she made sure to order the sodas as well. "How much?" She asked after a second. "And how long?" She nodded. "Yes we'll be here thank you." She hung up and turned to Gene. "Thirty minutes." "Thank you," Gene said quietly. And while he didn't elaborate, he hoped she knew that he meant for the pizza and just for everything else too. Alex smiled ever so slightly. "No thanks necessary. Things happen, we handle it. Nothing's changed." He smiled faintly and nodded, craning his neck to kiss Alex's cheek. There would be hell to pay if this wasn't sorted by Christmas. He'd definitely made the right decision. |
