Alex Danvers was not a woman given to meditation. Action was more her style. It wasn't necessarily a healthy coping mechanism and she knew that but it was who she was. If she had things on her mind, she would either drink or do something reckless but this morning when she woke up, she found herself wanting to meditate. In a garden of all places. Alex wasn't a gardner either although she did have a couple of plants at home which by some miracle (probably Kara) had not died. When she left her apartment and started toward the base, she suddenly felt drawn in a different direction. Instead of heading to work, she ended up in the park and it was a part that she had never seen before. If she'd been anywhere except Atlantis she'd have thought something was up but here, it was most likely another one of those strange things that happened nearly every day. She pushed her way through a weeping willow and found herself in a small garden with a fountain in the middle. It was peaceful and there was a little stone bench and she sat down and looked into the water. Immediately she felt her thoughts drift to a peaceful place, a place where she wasn't lonely, where she constantly asked herself if she could have done something differently with Maggie. Was she wrong in standing up for what she wanted? As she sat in the garden, she felt a sense of peace come over her and she knew that she had done nothing wrong. There would always be a part of her that loved Maggie, a part of her that would wonder how things might have been if they'd worked out, but Sara was right. Everyone had a Maggie, that one person that was your first real love, and sometimes it wasn't meant to be. Meeting Maggie, getting to know her, had helped Alex look inside herself and for the first time acknowledge who she was. While her sexuality didn't define her, it was part of her and loving Maggie had helped her accept herself, something she'd never been able to do before. As she sat there, she somehow knew that she would find someone. Someone who she would love and who would love her in return and want to make a family with her in whatever form that took. It might be here in Atlantis, it might be at home, but it didn't matter. Alex was happy with her life here, she loved her job and while she missed everyone at the DEO, she was able to spend more time with Kara and Lena as well as get to know Mon El a little better and to meet her niece. It was a good life and she closed her eyes for a moment and let that sink it and then opened them. Sitting in front of her was a garden gnome and it hadn't been there before. Alex picked it up and then laughed. It looked exactly like her. "Oh Kara is going to love this," she said, still laughing, and stood up. "Thanks Atlantis. It's just what I needed." and with a new sense of peace and purpose, she headed off to work. |
