Marcus drew deeply from his cigarette as he watched the crowd gathering around the bonfire. First there was that weird scene with Spinnet earlier, and now there was another feeling of familiarity to the night’s revelry that he just couldn’t shake. He knew he should walk down to the beach and join the crowd, and perhaps if he had arrived in Atlantis under more traditional methods he might have been more comfortable with joining… But there was a lot to think about, and he just couldn’t will himself to be in the joining mood. He turned to walk back toward the city, and had to quickly halt his steps to keep from running into Delilah. Squinting in the darkness, he asked, "Goose, is that you?" With a giggle Delilah leaned in to give Marcus a hug, careful to avoid his cigarette as she slid into his arms. "I thought we talked about you calling me that," she reprimanded him playfully as she stepped back. Marcus shrugged. "Habit," he offered in excuse. He gave her a tiny grin before taking another drag of his cigarette and returning his gaze to the bonfire down on the beach. "You’re late to the party." Delilah’s smile turned knowing. "I’m not late! I was here when they lit the fire, because I was polling people for the paper. I just didn’t want to be stuck in my uniform all night, so I ran back to my room to change." She paused in her chatter to gesture down at her outfit, a black t-shirt with writing, which wasn’t the easiest to see in the dim light, and a pair of black shorts and flip-flops. "Come on, walk with me! Join the fun. There’s booze!" she added, trying to tempt him. Shaking his head, Marc ignored her invitation and asked, "You were polling people?" With a small chuckle at his obvious refusal to join the crowd, Delilah answered, "There’s a lot of new arrivals today, so it was just simple questions like Do you like your room?" It took Marcus a second to realize she wasn’t just telling him the question, but asking him as well. He flicked his cigarette butt off to the side and said, "Sure." "You seem sure," Delilah teased him in response. He shrugged. "I haven’t really spent much time in it yet." She bobbed her head, shoving her hands into her pockets as she shifted her weight from one foot to the other. "Fair enough. Well… Do you like your job assignment?" "Sure." Delilah made a face at him. "Are you just telling me what you think I want to hear?" Marcus shrugged again. "Sure," he replied as he glanced down to meet her gaze. They laughed together, and Delilah leaned into him to bump her shoulder against his arm. "Go," he added, lifting his chin to gesture toward the crowd. "Have fun at your party." Grudgingly, Delilah backed up a few steps in the right direction, although she was still facing Marcus when she replied, "You could go, too. It could be fun!" He waved her off and turned to walk back toward the city, with Stalker quietly following behind him. "Good bye, Marcus!" Delilah called to his retreating form, chuckling at the moodiness of her friend as she turned to head back in the direction of the bonfire. She reached the edge of the crowd, and was just trying to decide if she wanted a drink or a snack- or both!- when a voice drew her out of her thoughts. "MOOOOON!" Malcolm let out loudly with a beer in one hand and his eyes drifting between Delilah Moon and the bonfire. Malcolm still couldn't believe that this was where he was or that this was all happening... Although being kidnapped to an island did have a weird sense of having done this before. Delilah looked around, and spotting him, she moved in his direction. “Malcolm Stebbins, as I live and breathe!,” she greeted him as distance between them closed. "You're here!" He said grinning awkwardly. There was a clear sense that he wasn't completely sure this was all happening. "Did you know there is a candy shop with more stuff in it than anywhere at home? It's amazing. Have you been to it yet?" Yes, that was how Malcolm decided to start a conversation, it also probably wasn’t too surprising that he decided to go first when he got here. "You mean Sweet & Tasty?" she said, smiling up at him. "It’s a real treat, isn’t it? They have candy from pretty much any universe you could imagine. Frankly, I could have lived in a world without Blood Pops, but the vampire types that are arriving might really like them." Before he could respond to her comment, Delilah was already continuing on. She untucked on of her hands from the pocket so she could lightly tap his chest with the back of her hand. "So you are here too! When was the last time we saw each other… New Years, right?" |
