Lily Ward-Johnson ✦ Violet Parr
Falling Challenge G Complete |
Lily was looking at her phone and not watching where she was going. She was on her way to the Magic offices in HQ and trying to answer a text. She didn’t even notice the piece of paper on the stairs until she felt herself slip and she yelped and tried to grab the rail on the wall. Before she could touch it though, she found herself in a see through bubble with a girl that she hadn’t met although she had seen her on the network. Lily was able to right herself and not fall and looked over at the girl. “Oh my god, you did that? How cool! And thank you!” Lily was very glad she’d happened to be around just when she needed her. “I’m Lily. I know you haven’t been here long but I can’t think of your name.” Violet was returning back after checking out a few books in the library. One of the downsides about being here was that she realized she had several years of movies, television and books that she needed to catch up on. Violet had looked up just as she saw the young woman slip, her instincts kicked in and she dropped her bags and immediately formed her force-field around the young woman, catching her before she fell down the stairs. “You okay?” Violet immediately asked. People may slip on the stairs from time to time, but it did have the potential of being extremely dangerous. “I’m Violet, and it’s no problem.” She smiled as she picked up her bags. “It’s just something I can do.” She wasn’t quite used to sharing her powers with people but she was slowly learning that it was okay to be herself here. “I haven’t been here for very long either, so it’s possible that we just haven’t met yet. It’s nice to meet you too.” “Thanks so much, Violet,” Lily said gratefully. “That’s a pretty handy power to have, I’d say.” It was less destructive than the ability to create and manipulate fire but that wasn’t so bad now that she had learned how to control it. “I’m glad you came along and I didn’t end up breaking my leg or something.” Violet laughed and nodded. “Oh yeah, it certainly comes in handy. I can also turn invisible which has its perks.” She immediately shook her head. “I mean not like that,” she emphasised. “My family and I are sort of superheroes back home. So I just mean when fighting bad guys it really comes in handy.” She hoped that she would get better at talking about it. “That would have been bad, and I’m glad I was here to help!” “I have powers too,” Lily said. “My mom is what’s known as an inhuman, it’s a genetic trait that you’re born with but you have to be exposed to a crystal and go through a process called terragenesis before you know what you can do. I can manipulate and make fire. That was a tough thing to learn how to control, let me tell you.I wanted to go through the process when I was a kid but my parents made me wait and now I’m glad I did. I would have done god only knows what when I was little.” A smile grew across Violet’s face as Lily spoke about her powers. Logically she knew that if people were from different worlds than the powers might work different, but it was still surprising to hear. “Really? I was born with mine, same with my two brothers, but we didn’t have to have a crystal or go through a process to know. It’s just always been there.” Violet nodded and smiled. “Trust me, I know what you mean. My youngest brother Jack Jack is a shapeshifter, and he turns into a flame and breath fire sometimes. It’s a mess.” “Oh my god!” Lily laughed. “Thankfully I don’t breathe fire which is a relief. With Inhumans you don’t know necessarily what your power is until the terragenesis. My mom had no idea she even had the genetic trait until she accidentally got caught in a terragenesis storm I guess you’d say. She can cause earthquakes and move things, it was hard to get under control but she’s good now and since it’s genetic, they knew that I’d have some kind of power but we didn’t know what. So if I ever have kids, we’ll have to see what they have.” Violet laughed along with her. She felt a stinging pain whenever she thought about Jack Jack and her parents, and she knew that she just missed them. Violet wasn’t sure what her life would be like had Dash not shown up with her, but she still missed the rest of her family. “Wow,” she said. “I guess every world is different, which I figured it would be, but it’s still a bit wild to think that there are different worlds in the first place. I’m not naive enough to think that Earth was the only planet, but the whole parallel world still seems so Doctor Who to me.” “When I came here, I actually come from a future Atlantis,” she said. “There were three possible futures and several of us came here when something happened. I’ve got a half sister from another future, we don’t have the same mom so that’s kind of interesting. I don’t know her that well but I hope we can get to know each other. The whole multiverse thing? Yeah, it’s nuts!” “Wow.” Violet stared at her for a moment, having to think about how crazy it must be for Lily. “I have no idea what I’d do in that situation. I’m just trying not to think about my parents coming here from a time before they had kids.” Violet shivered. It definitely wasn’t something she was prepared to deal with, and hoped that she never would have. Then offered Lily a smile. “I guess it’s just something I should get used to or else I’ll probably get a permanent migraine trying to make sense of it all.” She laughed. “I should probably go, but it was nice meeting you! Be careful on those stairs!” “It was nice to meet you too, Violet,” said Lily “and thanks again. I’m really glad you came along when you did.” She smiled and continued on her way, making a mental note to get in touch with Violet soon and offer to help her get acclimated to this new world. |
