Coffee. That’s what she need, a nice strong cup of coffee. Lara usually preferred mornings, but with a restless night, she was still quite tired. She yawned as she stepped inside Coffee Me Better, the smells alone would certainly make anyone more alert. Lara still had a loyalty to tea, but thanks to Sam, she developed an appreciation for coffee, especially cappuccinos. She didn’t mind waiting, it was in the morning so of course the shop bustled with people also needing a morning pick-me-up. She stayed silent as she waited, deep in thought then offered a smile to the barista when it was her turn to order.
Lara didn’t know why she had glanced over, she barely heard the total cost of her order. Lara stared outside of the window to see a familiar figure, on the other side of the glass, it was the back of his head, but she knew. There was something about him, Lara could have sworn he looked almost the same as she last saw him. It may have been a while, but she would know him anywhere.
“Roth?” She barely whispered. It had to be.
“Miss?”
Lara didn’t bother to respond, instead she immediately ran out the door as she saw Roth walking away. She caught her breath and looked around. No. That wasn’t possible. He was here, he was right here. Lara frowned, maybe she really was tired.
“Atlantis, huh?” Lara immediately turned around and there standing there was Roth. There was something different...something wrong. Lara just thought he looked the same, but know, he was exactly the same as she last remembered him on Yamanti.
“You’re not real.” Lara commented. “You’re not really here. You’re dead.”
“You’ve come a long way, Lara. You were never much of a team player, and now look at you. Fighting in a war, making a difference.” He smiled. Lara attempted to reach out to him and pulled back. “I’m very proud of you.”
“Stop it.” Lara said shaking her head, her hands covering her face. “Stop it. You shouldn’t be proud of me. You should be angry. I couldn’t save you. I couldn’t save Alex or Angus.” She felt herself lean up against the wall, her face still covered.
“You can’t save everyone, Lara.” His words pierced through her, the same thing he told her when she wanted to save the pilot. Their conversation about sacrifice and loss.
