“This is just stupid,” Davina said looking at the bowl of gumbo she was handed on a stick. Some food worked well on a stick, gumbo was not one of those things.
Rolling her eyes she turned carefully and nearly ran into someone, someone she’d met a few times when she as rooming with Kai. “Hey,” she said not looking up but down at her soup sh was balancing.
Katherine was minding her own business, she usually did because most people didn’t want anything to do with her and it was just easier to avoid everyone. Of course when someone almost ran into her it was impossible to avoid them.
“Davina, right?” she said as she tilted her head in utter confusion. “Why on earth is that on a stick? Is this some weird trend or has Atlantis gone insane again?”
“Yeah, Davina,” she didn’t confirm that she knew who Katherine was, but that was because she already did.
“I don’t know, all the food seems to be on a stick today, some things I don’t mind but soup?”
“Soup on a stick is just stupid. I don’t understand how these things keep happening without anyone trying to find a way to stop them,” she said, glancing down at the soup on a stick, unsure how that even worked.
“Maybe I should choose something that comes on a stick for my lunch. Any suggestions?”
“Kebabs, at least that kind of food is supposed to be on a stick instead of not.” Davina shrugged as she looked at the gumbo. “That or mini sliders or something, soup I’d avoid, or anything liquidy.” Which was a clear suggestion but she still thought the whole thing was messed up.
“Hopefully this won’t last long as I’m not exactly a fan of kebabs or mini sliders or any kind of food that they tend to serve on sticks.” As with most things Katherine could be considered a bit of a snob when it came to food. “I don’t even think you’ll be able to eat that without making a mess. They could have at least given you a bowl as well.”
“Some food on a stick can be fun,” Davina liked some things, just not when she was looking for something else. “You could probably do fried oysters on stick okay.” Her cajun roots were showing. “But yeah, I might ditch this and find something else for lunch.”
“Fried oysters has potential,” she said, mulling over the idea a little. “It sounds like you’ve got a bit more experience with food on sticks than I have, perhaps I can join you and we can find something better than your soup on a stick. I’ll even pay for whatever you want instead.” Some would suspect an ulterior motive but her offer was sincere, she really was trying to be a better person.
Davina wasn’t sure how she felt about Katherine offering to shout her lunch but she also knew she didn’t want to eat soup on a stick. “I wouldn’t say I have that much more experience, but sure.”
Katherine knew how people perceived her and she knew that likely wouldn’t change but she wasn’t going to stop trying. “It sounds like it, so, shall we?” she said, gesturing down the street towards some of the other places that served food.
