As far as Kol was concerned, life was pretty good here in Atlantis. He wasn’t dodging rogue witches, wolves, or even vampires. His siblings weren’t around to try to dictate his life or trying to stick him back in a box. Most of all, though, he had the love of his immortal life by his side. There was the whole still having a piece of a deranged child-witch inside of him, but his siblings weren’t there to make matters complicated. Sure, he missed some of them from time to time, and it was disappointing to see Bex leave, but the whole point was to get as far away from them as possible. Being in Atlantis had sure accomplished that much.
He’d stopped by to check in to meet with Davina for lunch, and was on his way out as he passed through one of the medical office floors. It wasn’t a part of the base where he normally visited, but he made note of a few of the offices and locations as he passed through. As far as he knew, most of the people who had been rescued during the last mission were on the mend and had been discharged.
Pushing through a set of the double doors, he was glancing off to the side when he nearly ran into a woman. She stumbled a bit, dropping most of her paperwork to the floor, but using his lightning quick reflexes, Kol caught her easily and smiled a bit as she looked up at him in surprise.
“My apologies,” he said and helped her back to her feet. “Are you alright?”
Man Atlantis was weird. Claire’s mind was all over the place, there was so much to do for those who had been kidnapped and she’d been reading over all of their profiles again trying to figure out the best approach for each one.
“Shit!” Claire let out as all the papers flew out of her hands and she was falling, all she could think about was that McCoy would never let her hear the end of it if she got herself hurt luckily while she was thinking about the pain she was already caught and not a mess on the floor.
“Thank you,” she said standing steady and smoothing down her dress. “I’m fine, don’t worry about it, I should have been paying attention to where I was going instead of reading.” She indicted the papers on the floor before starting to bend down.
“Are you okay?” She knew physically an original vampire would be fine, but she wasn’t really asking about the physical.
Kol smiled a bit and shrugged off her concern. “Oh, don’t worry about me. I’m alright. We’ve all had our distracted mishaps, haven’t we?” Perhaps not exactly in the same way, but there had been plenty of mistakes made when he’d been distracted in some fashion. He knelt down and began to help her pick up some of the papers.
As curious as most anyone else would be, Kol caught a few words on the files while gathering them up. “Ah, Dr. Callahan is it? It’s a pleasure to officially meet you.”
They weren’t in order, but all of the files were at least gathered up, and they stood back up to face one another. “Preparing for a busy day?”
Smiling she doubted their version of missteps were the same, but she wasn't going to mention that now or ever.
"Claire," she corrected with a smile as she tried to make sure all the confidential papers were in her hands. "It's nice to meet you as well, Kol Mikaelson." She tended to know who most people were after all.
"You could say that. It's been a difficult month for a lot of people," she frowned slightly. "How about you? How is your month going?"
“Better than most,” he replied. “Me and mine seemed to have come out of this month unscathed for the most part.” It wasn’t that hard since him and his consisted of Davina, and well, himself. Kol wasn’t the type to make ‘friends’ very easily. His long life had always revolved around the love-hate relationship between all of the Mikaelson siblings.
He was actually a little surprised that he hadn’t been on the list to see the good doctor when he’d first arrived. Sure, he’d been on the mostly straight and narrow before coming to Atlantis, but he did have a messy history. “And yours? Have you had any interesting days lately that you’d like to share? I do love a good story. I’ll buy you a coffee and trade one for one if you make it good and fun.”
"You don't know any of the people who were taken?" Claire asked although she already basically knew the answer to that question. She tended to keep an eye on who knew whom.
"Every month with rooming swaps, talking pigs and an influx of visitors always makes for an interesting month." Claire would have loved to seen someone from home, but she knew that was never going to happen.
"That's a very generous offer, but I've got," she paused, "meetings all day." She was curious about this version of Kol if he was similar to the one she'd work with before or not, although that version had gone from a witch to a vampire. "You're welcome to stop by anytime though, to trade stories."
“Not very well, no. Faces and names that I recognized, of course, but none who were close acquaintances.” Which was probably a good thing all things considered as he would have tried to move heaven and earth to get them back. Against any orders telling him to do otherwise.
“Meetings, hm?” He had no doubt she had a very busy schedule. “Ah, but that would be on the clock, wouldn’t it?” Kol smiled but it was one of those ‘my wheels are turning’ sort of smiles. “I prefer to do my storytellings off the clock. Much less formal, yes?”
Claire couldn't help but wonder if Kol was connecting with anyone here, other than Davina of course, she was aware of their engagement. Claire prefered seeing people make more friends than not.
"I wouldn't say it's on the clock, I just rarely get out of my office these days," she corrected. "It wouldn't be anything formal or something where the shrink annoyingly takes notes and leaves the patient wondering what the hell they're writing down."
Kol could get more on board with an informal setting or making sure that this wasn’t an official Atlantis session. He would likely try to avoid that as much as possible, but he did think it would be interesting to say the least to sit down with the doctor and trade stories. Oh, he knew she couldn’t give any juicy specifics, especially of the people who were here, but he supposed she had some fun stories to tell from her time before coming here. Just like he did.
“I’ll be sure to keep that in mind. On the record, though -- getting out of the office is good for the mind, body, and probably even the soul.” He sure as hell knew he wouldn’t be able to stay cooped up in an office setting day in and day out.
Nodding at her, he gave her another small smile. “Good luck with those meetings, Dr. Callahan.” He used her formal title rather than her name again, but there was a certain playfulness in the way he said it. “I hope to see you around soon.”
