[ I was going to use them anyway and then I saw your comment on my St Paddy’s party and decided this would be perfect!]
Ezra had been wandering around the party watching everybody act like idiots and it was very entertaining. He’d been here long enough to know that the drinks did things to you but he still wanted to try one and of course he couldn’t. There was enough magic here that you couldn’t sneak in a fake idea. Not that he had one. Or two. Or maybe even three. Nope, if you were under eighteen, you got non-spiked, non-magical fruit punch. It wasn’t bad but he felt like since he’d be eighteen in about two months he should get a pass. Atlantis thought otherwise.
As he was standing watching a couple of people dance, he spotted someone out of the corner of his eye. She was in some of his classes at school (he didn’t like having to go to school either) and he’d always thought she was cute and seemed nice so he walked over to her. “Is it crazy that i wish I could have what everyone else is drinking, even if it makes do crazy stuff like that,” he said, nodding his head toward the dance floor.
Lauren was leaning against the wall when Ezra came and joined her. At his question, she shook her head. “I don’t think so, it kind of looks like fun. Even if most of them look like they're insane. Did you see that Neal guy go chasing after something?" She asked that one had caught her attention because she couldn't figure out what the heck he was doing and he'd disappeared it seemed.
He laughed and nodded. “Yeah, I saw that. A couple of other people did the same thing. Who knows what’s going on?” Ezra shrugged. He was learning to expect the unexpected around this place. “I’m Ezra. We’re in school together but I don’t think we’ve ever actually talked.”
“It probably sounds weird, but I sort of wish I could find out.” Lauren thought it looked oddly like fun. “It’s nice to meet you Ezra, I’m Lauren.” Lauren had already learned his name but she’d been pretty focused on getting settled in Atlantis and everything. “How long have you been here?”
“About three months now. They said it was December when I got here but the calendar where I come from is different than yours. How about you?” People came and went so fast around here that it was hard to keep up. Ezra only remembered his own arrival because it had coincided with a big holiday here. Or at least it was close to one.
“I got here last month, so I guess about six weeks,” shrugging Lauren couldn’t decide if it felt like it had gone by fast or it had gone by slow. “The whole place is so weird, I still don’t think I’m used to it. Daisy says I’ll get used to the weird but some of this stuff? I’m not sure anyone will get used to it.”
“Yeah, it’s freaky. People turning into things, thinking they’re Disney characters, I’m just glad that so far nothing really weird has happened to me. I did have a day where I was really humble and kept apologizing to everybody for things I hadn’t even done. That’s not like me but it’s better than turning into a penguin. That’s happened before.” he laughed. “Watching this is at least entertaining if nothing else.”
“Same here, but now that we’ve said it something weird is going to happen, you know that right?” Lauren teased with a grin. She did really wonder what was going to happen to her after all the strange things she’d seen happen to other people.
Ezra laughed. “You’re probably right! I might wake up with two heads or something. Although I don’t think that’s happened but there has to be a first time I suppose.” It was nice to talk to someone his own age, he missed having Sabine around to talk to and to hang out with when they had downtime which sadly wasn’t very often.
“Ew! No, let’s not think about two heads, because that would just be…” She grimaced thinking about it. “I mean, everyone has conversations with themselves, but with two heads? That’d be soooo annoying.”
“Wouldn’t it? Ezra grinned. “But at least if you talked to yourself that way it wouldn’t be so strange if you answered yourself. On the other hand, maybe it would be. Let’s just hope that one never happens.” It felt good to have a normal conversation (if you could call it that) with someone his age that didn’t involve war or danger. How long had it been since that had happened, he wondered. Even at home, it was always in the back of their minds and after the kidnappings, he was sure people would be thinking about it here.
“I really hope that never happens,” Lauren wasn’t sure she wanted to argue with herself verbally she did that enough in her head, which she wasn’t going to say because that would be even weirder. “Atlantis is so weird."
For a moment Ezra didn’t say anything as he realized that he had no social skills when it came to girls. Maybe not when it came to anyone but he had an idea so he turned to her and said “Wanna dance? Even if we’re not good at their style of dancing, everybody’s drunk enough not to notice.”
Shrugging she smiled looking at him. “Yeah, let’s dance!” She said letting him take her hand and leading her to where some other people were dancing.
