Alex still couldn’t believe that practically everyone she knew was here, or so it seemed. She’d seen most of them just before she’d found herself here and still wasn’t entirely sure how she had gotten here. It was also clear that not everyone shared the same memories if her brief exchange with Mon-El was any indication. Not to mention the fact that he looked entirely different. She had found the wine bar while she’d been wandering around the city and after talking to Kara, they had agreed to meet there. Alex was waiting out front, scanning the street for her sister and when she spotted her, she waved and gave her a smile. It didn’t matter that they’d just parted at home, this was a different place and she was happy to see the one person that could make this place feel like home for however long she was going to be here.
“Alex!” Kara grinned as she rushed towards her sister and gave her a big hug, Kara was good at being careful with normal human strength now but she still probably squeezed a little bit too tightly. “I’ve missed you so much, there is so much you need to know and oh my god, this place is crazy! Lena is here, so is Sam, I’m not sure if Sam’s going to be sticking around, but she’s here for now and Lena now knows that I’m you know, Supergirl, because everyone knows here secret identities aren’t really a thing, except for the really bitchy gossip writer who hasn’t written anything in a while but no one actually knows who she, or he, is.”
“Hey slow down,” Alex laughed. She was used to how fast Kara talked but when she was excited, sometimes she had to get her to take it easy. “The funny thing is that I just saw you at home, literally just saw you. We were having a drink at the Alien Bar and then I left and when I walked out the door, I was here.” She shook her head. “They explained things to me but it’s all so weird but there is more than one Earth so this shouldn’t be too hard to get used to. That also explains why Mon-El couldn’t understand why I was shocked to see him but maybe I need to ask you what’s the last thing you remember before I tell you something you don’t know.” Kara spoke if she had been here for a while so there was a good chance that she didn’t know about Earth X or the World Killers or Mon-El being married and Alex didn’t want to be the one to tell her.
Kara winced at the comment about Mon-El. “Yeah, I got a memory dump so I know all about the World Killers, the crazy other me who wanted to take my heart and was married to Oliver Queen, gross.” She said shaking her head with mild disgust. “He doesn’t know nearly as much, he’s from before, before he vanished, before getting married to Saturn Barbie.” Kara frowned at herself. “That was mean, Imra is great, I like her, just, you know, it’s a little weird getting these memories that your boyfriend married someone else when you’re somewhere that your future daughter with your boyfriend is living too.”
“Well, at least you and I are on the same page. And Nazi World was not fun, I would be happy to forget that but I don’t think that’s possible.” It had been a horrific experience, one that Alex hoped never to repeat. “No, Saturn Barbie kind of fits her. Except she’s not blonde like Barbie but that’s beside the point.” Alex grinned and then she heard the rest of what Kara was saying. “Whoa...a kid? How did you have a kid? I mean I know how it happens but you haven’t had time to have a kid have you? I think we need to go inside and have a few glasses of wine before I hear the rest of this. Hell, maybe a bottle or two.”
“Earth X had some good stuff? We did get to kick Nazi ass, but that’s about it, okay, that was more Sara’s point than mine, but she had somewhat of a point.” Kara shrugged. “Not all Barbie’s are blond! And besides, Imra is nice and she’s cool.” And stupidly perfect looking, but Kara didn’t say that. “Oh, no, that’s a future thing , way into the future thing, or somewhat into the future thing. It was weird, kids showed up from different futures here in Atlantis… anyways, wine, come on!” She said opening the door and waving her sister in.
“True, punching a Nazi was every bit as amazing as I thought it would be,” she agreed. “Yes, wine, I think I need some!” Alex entered the bar and they found a table. Picking up the wine list or more appropriates lists, her eyes widened. “My god, do they have every kind of wine in the universe here? I think I’ll be spending a good amount of time here. What’s good? I trust your judgement.”
“Try every single kind of wine in every universe!” Kara said before speaking to the waiter and saying some of the basics of what they like and asked for a surprise. “That’s easier than trying to remember everything they’ve got here,” Kara said to her sister. “So, tell me, what do they have you doing? What else is going on?”
A surprise sounded good and Alex couldn’t wait to see what they got. She laughed at Kara’s question. “Well you’ve remembered everything up to the moment i left so there’s nothing to say on that front. They haven’t given me a job yet, apparently, there was a huge influx of people and we’ve all got a week to decide if we want to stay or not and if we do we’ll get permanent assignments.” There really wasn’t any question about what to do for Alex. She’d decided to stay as soon as she’d heard what they were up against and she’d learned about the kidnappings. “I’ve already decided to stay but I was waiting to make it official until things settled down and they got everyone home safely. Plus it seems like practically everybody from home is here anyway.” she laughed. “I’m glad that there aren’t any secret identities, it was getting hard to keep it from Lena so at least there’s that. What is she doing here? She replied to my first post but I haven’t had the chance to catch up to her yet. And I want to hear about my niece too!”
“But it’s so weird!!” Kara insisted. “I haven’t actually seen seen you in over a year, I mean I remember stuff, but I wasn’t there-there and now you’re here and I know I remember it all, but it’s not the same.” She insisted.
“Like anyone would doubt you’d stay here and fight,” Kara teased while rolling her eyes. “Well, not everyone, but a lot of people.” She confirmed. “She’s working in engineering, which I think is good for her.” Kara did think it was a really good thing for Lena, getting back to her roots so to speak.” Kara grinned about her daughter. “Alura, she’s amazing, smart, beautiful, spunky, which I think she might have gotten from you…”
“I bet that is weird, remembering stuff that you haven’t actually lived through and having it feel like you did,” Alex couldn’t imagine what that must be like. “Especially when not everyone around you knows about it. How are you going to tell Mon-El? I guess you could not tell him but that wouldn’t be fair and you wouldn’t be able to hide it anyway.” she smiled at her sister. Kara was the sweetest, most giving person Alex knew. They had their differences but they respected each other and loved each other and she knew that Kara would always do the right thing in the end.
“I’m sure Lena enjoys getting back to engineering again. She’s brilliant.” While Alex had been wary of her at first because her name was Luthor, she had quickly seen that Lena was a good person and very different from her brother and her mother. “Alura…..that’s a pretty name. I like it a lot. How old is she? You said she was an adult, that must have taken some getting used to!”
Kara paused taking a deep breath in. “I have no idea,” she really didn’t know how a conversation with Mon-El was going to go over the fact that he moved on, he went into space lived seven years, got married, all that without her. That wasn’t going to be something she could hide. “I mean, he has to know, it’d be better for me to tell him, but it’s still really awkward and it’s like saying, ‘hey you marry a girl from Saturn, surprise!’ is the best way to do it.”
“I hope Lena does, it’d be good if she does!” Kara wanted all of her friends and family to be happy. “It was my mother's,” Kara smiled softly with a shrug. It seemed fitting for her. “She’s 26, which is a little weird, given I’m just 25 here, but I guess that’s Atlantis for you.”
“I agree, it’s something he needs to hear from you but I can’t imagine a way to tell someone that. It’s going to be hard no matter what but you will do the right thing, you always do,” she smiled at her sister. “He’ll be surprised but the important thing is thathere you’re together. From what I know of the multiverse, whatever happens here is here and what happens there is there. If you need someone to talk to after it’s all over, I’m willing to listen.” Mon-El loved her sister and Alex knew how hard it had been for Kara to let him go. She got another chance here and how could that be a good thing.
“Well, I look forward to meeting Alura. I’m sure she’s just as awesome as her parents.” Their drinks arrived and Alex took a sip. “Oh my gosh, this is really amazing.I might stay just to get through the wine list.”
“It’s good, I mean, things have been really good, it’s just, I don’t know how he’s going to take it and we already had the whole thing of him telling me who he really is and it’s just, why can’t the world leave us alone? At least our relationship!” Kara insisted. “Well, you better be, that’s what big sisters are for!” She teased.
Kara grinned. “I think she’ll be excited to meet you too, she’s heard a lot about you.” Laughing Kara sighed. “Of course, it’s about the wine list.”
