It was over, life, the centuries of hiding, the centuries of being hunted, and then it wasn’t. Listening carefully, but with great caution, Helena nodded slowly as the tired looking employee told her that her brother was informed of her arrival and that there was another person from her world. As the name Georgina Kincaid came out of the mortal's lips, Helena groaned rolling her eyes. "Of course that little slut is here." She muttered getting a mildly horrified look from the person helping her.
Opting to take the stairs, it was strange feeling all the different kinds of creatures that were within the walls of this base. She'd been told she couldn't go down to the communication offices that her brother worked in, but that word had been sent, and he would meet her in the lobby. Opening the door, she looked around taking note of the bored looking receptionist before turning her eyes to see her twin brother.
"Roman," she spoke carefully, she'd just seen him, but the knowledge that she should be dead right now was still strong in her mind.
The moment that he got the call, Roman didn't believe it. He was used to seeing and experiencing things in Atlantis that didn't make sense or seemed to be impossible, but finding out that his sister was back from the dead seemed even more unreal. Spending thousands of years with one single person by your side then suddenly losing them was harder to handle than he ever thought possible. Yet now she was here. But how?
This was Atlantis. You'd think that he would have stopped asking that question by now.
As soon as he got the message that she was on her way, Roman dropped what he was doing and quickly jogged down to the lobby. The moment he stepped through the doors, he saw her standing there. There were so many questions that he wanted to ask her, but there was the biggest one that he wasn't sure if he could ask just yet. What exactly did she remember?
"Helena," he said and strode over towards her. She seemed to be watching him carefully which wasn't necessarily out of the ordinary, but he didn't care. Roman smiled at her pulled her into a hug. "You have no idea how good it is to see you."
Letting him pull her into a hug she got the impression it had been a while since the last time he'd seen her. She wrapped her arms around him and took a moment to think about how life, even their long lives, would eventually turn out.
"You're right. I don't." She said pulling back from the hug. "I have half a mind to slap you!" She warned shaking her head at him. "How long have you been in this place? And what exactly have you been doing to keep yourself out of trouble?"
Roman held up his hands in mock surrender when she sort of chastised him. He almost wanted to smile and hug her all over again. It had been far too long since she’d spoken to him like she wanted to ground him - which used to be all the time. God, he’d missed her so much.
“Uhh.. about a year or so? Maybe a little more?” He wasn’t sure if his being there longer was a good or bad thing in her eyes. “As for keeping out of trouble… who said I was?” He smiled and knocked her lightly on the shoulder. “They’ve been keeping me busy here and there. I help run the communications and linguistics area.” Considering that he was the only one left of their group, he basically was the communications and linguistics department now. Which was kinda scary if he stopped and thought about it.
“Helena, what’s the last thing you remember before showing up here? From home?” He knew from being here long enough and from having to explain things to Georgina that people could be pulled here from all sorts of times.
"A year or so?" Huh, she really must have not survived, she'd have to know if her brother was missing, but then again she got the impression things didn't work here the way they did in their world. "Roman, you always find trouble," she said waving it off as if that was just a known fact. "You're helping to run a department?" She asked tilting her head a little but surprised.
"You," she made sure it was slightly accusatory. "Got in too deep with that stupid little succubus you're obsessed with and brought not only our father down on us but also an Angel, I'm pretty sure I was about to die." Helena's words faltered just a little bit at the end of that sentence, most people wouldn't be able to notice it, but she knew her brother would.
“That’s what they tell me each day when I go to work,” he said with a grin. “I guess it’s more like I’m the only one left. We’ve always had a small group, but I guess I ran everyone else off.” Not that he really believed that, but still. He was going to have to steal someone from another department and bring them over to his side.
“Ah. That.” He wasn’t sure what to say since it was all true. He did get in too deep, he did become obsessed, and Helena was about to die. He hadn’t listened to her wanting to just live their lives but instead had his obsession with taking out a major power in the area. That had been the plan all along. “I’m from a while after that. I mean, I’ve been here for a year, but a lot of time had passed back home too. I skipped town after…. all of that for a while.”
"What did you do? Bore them with bad jokes?" Helena was teasing with that comment even though if someone didn't know her it'd be difficult to tell she was joking.
"Yes, that." Helena really could not understand what her brother saw in the annoying little succubus. "I'm glad at least one of us got away." Her voice softened as she said it, she meant it, she would hate to think of her brother being killed. "Please tell me you never speak to that pathetic little twat again."
Roman smiled a little at her joke, but didn’t reply back since the subject had already delved into a more serious territory. He was glad that one of them got away, but as far as Roman was concerned the wrong one got away. He’d pulled her into his quest for vengeance and justice when she’d only wanted to live her life.
“Well……….,” he started and cleared his throat a bit. “About that. Not exactly.” How in the hell was he going to tell his sister that he’d technically, kinda sorta, maybe a little had gotten himself sent to hell and locked up for the rest of eternity for the sake of the succubus’ humanity? Humanity that she was going to live out with a guy even Roman didn’t really like all that much. He’d get to that later.
“Georgina is here, actually. Showed up around the same time I did.” Now wasn’t that going to be a fun reunion.
“What do you mean not exactly?” Helena didn’t care about anything else other than the answer to that question.
Well, that was until he told her that the stupid little succubus. “She’s here.” Helena stated, crossing her arms. “And you are being smart this time, staying away from her, she’s not good for you Roman. She’s not worth it.” Helena really couldn’t stand the idea of the little brat using her brother again and from what she’d seen Georgina was only good at using people.
“When I went back, I had every intention on, you know, killing her and getting it over with. But it wasn't as simple as that, and I ended up making a truce with Jerome to stay in the area without either of us going for the other's head. I guess you could say that I ended up working with them in a way. Or something.” Roman knew he probably was about to piss off his sister six ways from Sunday, but he had to tell her the truth. The very, very complicated truth.
“As far as what we are here… staying away isn't so easy. I don't really know what we're doing.” They were friends, sure, and he still had strong feelings for her. Ones that he was positive she shared but had a hard time admitting to herself. Or to him. So, he'd sort of backed off, and he had no idea what he was doing.
“But I don't wanna talk about her. You're here now and that's what matters.”
"You did what?!" Helena snapped. "Work with them?" Her voice raised a little. "Are you insane? How in the hell did our father-" The rage and anger she felt that her father could kill her without a second thought but came to some stupid arrangement for her brother all because of a pathetic little succubus was beyond her.
Shaking her head, she crossed her arms glaring at him. "You should stay away from her no matter what world you're in, she's just going to bring you pain and suffering, she might like to pretend she's about doing the right thing, but she's selfish," Helena warned him. It infuriated her that her brother let himself get sucked in so easily.
"So, what do you want to talk about?"
“I know, I know. Trust me, I know I’m an idiot.” Roman sighed. He knew she was going to have that sort of reaction, and honestly, he didn’t blame her. He would have acted the same if their roles had been reversed. There were even days that he still beat himself up about what happened both with their father and with Georgina. His mind was way too complicated even on a good day.
He was pretty sure staying away from Georgina was impossible for him at this point, but it was hard to figure out exactly what he was going to do. Or figure out what he wanted. That was all shit he could worry about later, though, because right now he wanted to spend time with the sister he’d missed like he’d missed both of his legs and arms.
“Let’s go explore Atlantis a little,” he said and slung his arm around her shoulders. “I think you’ll like a lot of it.”
“You are,” Helena agreed, at least when it came to Georgina.
She smiled and nodded. “Alright, show me around Atlantis.” Helena let him lead her out to explore this strange new land.
