The last week or so had been so strange for Lavender. She felt like herself, but she had moments of being someone else, Jasmine from the Disney film Aladdin. When she returned back to normal she had insisted on finding a way to watch the movie because she wanted to know more. It was a very surreal experience for her, and she was just glad that it didn’t come with any problems. Other than Lavender and Cisco wanting to get a tiger and a monkey. Good thing they didn’t.
The day was nice enough, it was sunny out but the high was only 3 degrees celsius with some wind. Needless to say that as Lavender went out to do a little shopping, she was dressed warmly. Lavender was on a mission, she had found some nice gloves, but the downside was that she didn’t bother to see that they would make using her device a bit more difficult. She needed a pair with the special pads, that way she didn’t have to take her gloves off. She had just left the shop, finding a nice pair of gloves, and also found a few decorative knick-knacks for her room. Stepping back out onto the sidewalk, she wondered if she should pick up lunch here or make something at home. Jyn was running late. She had been busy and had left for lunch a few minutes later than usual. It would have been fine had there not been a long line at the deli and she ended up waiting longer than she usually did. There wasn’t time to eat so she grabbed it to go so she could eat it at her desk. She was hurrying through the crowd, not really paying any attention to where she was going when she felt her foot catch on something and she hit the ground. “Damn,” she said, gritting her teeth. She had tripped on the edge of a street lamp and gone down. There was a tear in the knee of her pants and she had a nasty cut. Frustrated, she rolled her eyes and grabbed her tablet, she’d be late getting back so she needed to let them know. “Not a good way to start the afternoon,” she said. Weighing the options in her mind, Lavender decided to check the time. She heard a commotion and looked up to see a young woman on the ground. Her eyes narrowed and as she got a better look she saw could see by the body language that she might have actually fallen down. Without hesitating she went over to the woman’s side. “Hello?” Lavender smiled as she offered her hand. “That must have been a nasty fall, you all right?” “I think so but I’ve got a gash on my knee,” she shook her head. “The one day I’m late, I try so hard to be on time. Well anyway there’s nothing to be done about it, I let them know what happened.” Jyn was frustrated and she knew it was coming through in her voice which wasn’t fair to this young woman who had stopped to help her. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to sound rude. I’m Jyn, Jyn Erso. I’m usually more polite when I meet someone new unless they’re trying to shoot me or something.” “It’s fine. I’m Lavender Brown.” She did her best to smile, but she could tell the young woman was frustrated, rightly so. “If you’re here in a hurry, I can actually fix that gash for you. It wont take any time but-” She paused as she took out her wand and gave a small wave. “I don’t know how comfortable you are with magic, especially having it performed on you, but I promise it’s painless, and it won’t leave any kind of mark.” “I’m fine with magic, it doesn’t bother me at all,” Jyn replied. After all what was the Force if not some sort of magic and she hadn’t truly understood all that her mother had taught her of that until she spent time with Chirrut and watched him. “I think it’s pretty amazing that you can do it, actually. Is it something you’re born being able to do?” “Oh, good!” Lavender said happily. “You never know. I’m still waiting on someone from a world or a time period where they think I’m possessed by the devil.” There weren’t many muggle family that Lavender had, but the ones she did see in South Korea, her great-aunt, well they were especially careful not to let anything mysterious happen as she was extremely superstitious. For the other cousins it was easier, they still weren’t allowed to know but at least they didn’t have to watch their step to make sure there was absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. “The spot will feel a little warm, but no hotter than using a hand-warming or those electric heating pads.” With a quick wave, a small light shown from the tip of her wand to Jyn’s wound. Within seconds of it glowing the cut was gone with no trace of a scar. “It is.” Lavender added quickly. “Not everyone in my world can do it and sometimes it can be fickle. Magical families may still have children that can’t perform any magic and non-magical families can have a child that can. I’m not quite sure how it works.” As much time as she spent with Cisco and Caitlin she wondered if it had something to do with genetics. She pushed the thought aside for now. “Wands are just one way, and usually the most popular way to channel that magic. We can do magic without though unless you live in a society where they don’t use wands, it’s a lot harder to accomplish.” “That’s fascinating,” Jyn said, watching Lavender use the wand to mend her gash. “That’s amazing, it looks like it was never there!” Just a few minutes and it was completely gone and painless to boot. “Is there anything I need to do? I guess not, the magic is permanent, isn’t it?” Lavender grinned as she offered her hand to Jyn, helping her up. “No, no. You don’t need to do anything. It’s permanent.” Even if it was something as simple as fixing a wound, it made Lavender happy. Not only did she like helping others but it was a big weight off her shoulders to not have to hide herself when she’s among non-magical folk. Going out in Muggle London was always a blast, but it was difficult for her not to use magic in front of muggles. “You’re all set!” She added. “I’d say be careful next time but with this place,” she gestured around Atlantis. “You really never know what’ll happen.” Jyn laughed. “That is so very true. Every day is something unique. Thank you for doing this,” she said. It was much better than having to find the things she needed to clean it up or stopping by Medical. “It was nice meeting you. I hope we see each other again soon when no one is bleeding!” Lavender joined in and laughed as well. “It was no trouble!” She waved before taking off in the opposite direction. “It was nice meeting you too, and I’m sure we will!” |
