bartenders should be trained mention of some violence complete |
So far it was a really boring night at the bar, and Liv was seriously thinking about calling it an early night and going home. They had plenty of staff for the night, and considering it was the middle of the week, she didn’t think they were going to get busy enough that they’d need everyone the entire night. Plus, she wasn’t really feeling up to pouring people drinks anyway. A lot of what happened with the kids from the future was still stuck in her head as was the conversation she’d had with Katima not that long ago. God, she really wanted to set her brother on fire and just see what would happen. She wouldn’t, though, not when there was a chance she’d end up being sent back. Not for self-preservation but to keep an eye on Katima. As soon as she realized she’d served someone really wrong drink, she threw in the towel for the night and told the others to have fun without her. Well, maybe not all the fun because Liv poured herself a rum and coke before walking out from behind the bar. She wasn’t planning on sticking around too long, but she wanted to loosen up a little before heading out. Or home. She wasn’t sure where she was going to end up tonight. Liv was walking towards one of the tables when she heard a couple guys start to get a little loud and rowdy. They started acting like they were going to face off, and Liv just rolled her eyes. She might be clocked out, but she wasn’t going to let these guys do something stupid. Just as one of them started to shove the other, Liv sat down her drink on the pool table and shoved them apart with her hands, standing in between them. They didn’t look happy. “Come on, guys. Are you really going to act like idiots right now? Give it a rest and go get another drink.” It'd been a weird few weeks, days, life, whatever. The whole world here had it's good and bad stuff, but at least the bars were usually good, and the food was amazing most places. Tonight, however, Taisia had plans that fell through somehow, and she ended up getting herself a drink and hanging out at Lightening Brew, she'd already gone through a few orders of fries and some nachos when she watched a couple of guys start to get into it, from what she could tell it really was about nothing. "Might be kinda complicated for them," Taisia called out as the guys grumbled about Liv getting in the way of their shoving match. If they’d kept on, Liv wouldn’t have been above using a small bit of magic to keep this from going in the wrong direction. It totally wasn’t the first time and probably wouldn’t be the last. She was hardly the kind of person that had a problem with using her magic for her own personal gain from time to time. Thankfully, though, it didn’t come down to that. Whatever the argument had been about, they grumbled something inaudible to one another and went in their opposite directions. Liv rolled her eyes and picked her drink back up as they walked away. She’d heard Taisia call out during the macho stare down between the two of them and had to agree. “I ought to be getting paid for being a bartender and a bouncer,” she said and shook her head as she approached the other girl and took a drink. Laughing Taisia completely understood what she meant. “Bartenders, the peace keepers of the drunk.” She offered raising her glass for a toast. It seemed like a proper moment for it, and Taisia completely got it. After the toast, she took a good sip and put her drink down. “I spent some time working at a bar in Breckenridge when they needed someone to fill in. I told the owner they needed to give the bartenders defense classes.” Taisia had done that, but it had been partly joking and partly serious. “You got it,” Liv said in agreement and raised up her glass before taking another drink. That was exactly what it felt like sometimes, and here she was on her break or after her shift or whatever this was. She definitely wasn’t on the clock, at least, and she needed a good break from the job and so much else. “Seriously. Though it helps that most of us here aren’t as breakable or we have own, own built-in self-defense.” She shook her head and agreed that most bartenders needed some sort of self defense. That is, if there were no bouncers around or your staff wasn’t made up of witches and vampires. “I’m Liv, by the way. I know I’ve seen you around, but I don’t think we’ve officially met.” Laughing she nodded. “Yeah, I’d worry if people were more breakable.” Taisia agreed as she thought of the few people she did know that were kinda breakable, she pushed it out of her mind not wanting to think about if they should have more protection around them or not. “Nice to meet you Liv, I’m Taisia.” Nodding, she knew it was impossible to know everyone, and she knew she tended to stick to the people who were on the base more. “You too,” she replied. Liv normally stuck to her same group of friends, and it was good for her to meet others and branch out a little. She wasn’t always the most warm and friendly type, so she didn’t always even try to go outside her usual circle. Drinking back the rest of her drink, Liv hesitated a moment before speaking. “I’ve been itching to get out of here most of the night. Would you want to go grab some food or something? We can swap stories of people acting like drunk idiots.” “You had me at food,” even though Taisia had just eaten that didn’t stop her from wanting more food. She was always up for more food. “Let’s get out of here.” Taisia tossed down some money and polished off her drink. |
