Phil Coulson ✦ Daisy Johnson
SHIELD!Dad & Daughter Reunited Pretty Tame Complete & Closed |
They'd survived the Framework. He'd been possessed by Ghost Rider. That was new. He knew eventually he'd have to tell the team, deal with the consequences, but that was a worry for another day. Ghost Rider had gone back into Robbie, that was enough for now. And Coulson could deal with it for awhile longer. They'd destroyed AIDA-Ophelia-whatever. And they were wanted. Again. Phil was pretty sure he knew how this was going to go. Some unnamed facility. Multi-day interrogations. The same old same old with people who had no idea what was really out there, what they faced. Hell, there were times, he didn't even really believe it all. If they were going to get locked up, he at least wanted a good meal first. A nice, juicy American hamburger - he hadn't had one of those in awhile. First things first. They should be heading to the diner, but Coulson had something to do first. He had to make sure his valuables were secure. As much as he was coming to trust Talbot somewhat, he wasn't about to let the government get its hands on some of SHIELD tech. Certainly not on the latest models of his arm that Fitz had developed. He'd switch out the current for the civvie one. What did you wear when you knew you were going to be arrested? A suit seemed to be overkill at this point. Best to go for comfort. He headed for his quarters to switch out the arm and was in his room when he saw it. The coin on the ground, looking vaguely out of place. He picked it up and felt the sensation wash over him. Well, this was unexpected. He woke up and the message began playing. It was all eerily familiar. Atlantis. He'd been here before. But the timelines didn't match up in his head. Had he been in two places at once? He wasn't sure how it all worked, but he needed to find his team. Phil glanced at the journals. After everything that had happened, he wasn't in a very patient mood. He was fairly certain he'd find Daisy in the training rooms and headed in that direction. Daisy’s phone was across the room, tucked safely in her gym bag as she went through her workout. Even though she was stationed in tech and didn’t go out in the field very often, she worked hard to stay in shape. She never knew when she’d be called on to fight and she was going to be ready when and if that time came. Besides, it was a good way of working through everything that had happened in her life since coming to Atlantis. Losing Lincoln again. Losing Jim and Zane twice. Meeting her kids from not just one but two possible futures. Most of the team wasn’t here. It was just her, Fitz and Simmons. And Ward. She’d stopped counting him as part of the team a long time ago, but they’d managed to find their way back to some kind of friendship here. Still, there were a lot of people missing. Turning around, she froze when she saw a very familiar-looking figure near the walls of the training room. “Coulson?” she asked needlessly as she stopped altogether and started toward him. "Thought I might find you here," Coulson said with a smile, eyes brightening as he spotted Daisy. He had hoped she would still be here. Even though he'd just seen her back home, he held his arms out on instinct. "How have you been?" It had been a hell of a lot longer for Daisy - over a year, although some gained memories in the meantime made it seem more like months - and she didn’t waste any time in hugging him, stepping into his waiting arms and wrapping her own around him. While she was lucky to have had some of the core members of their team here in Atlantis for her from the beginning, she’d really missed Coulson. This whole time, she’d held out some hope that he would be back. “I’ve been alright,” she said when she stepped back, shrugging lightly. “It’s good to see you, sir.” Coulson gave here a fierce hug. By now the prosthetic arm felt like his most of the time, but he had to keep it in check. No need to break Daisy's ribs with a hug. When she stepped back, he gave her a look. Alright was a bullshit answer in their line of work and they both knew it. "Sir? It's been awhile since you've called me that. You in the middle of something or do you have time to go catch up over coffee?" Daisy laughed at that. “Maybe not as long for me. I’m not sure when you’re from.” She’d pretty much just come out of the framework and maybe he wasn’t the head of SHIELD anymore, but he was still Coulson. There was always going to be a part of her looking up to him as the guy in charge, whether he was or not. Deciding her projects on base could wait, she grinned at him. “I can make some time for coffee,” she said. “You remember Atlantis, right? I mean, you’re decidedly un-freaked for a newbie.” "You mean that little jaunt when I was here for awhile? Yeah, I remember," Coulson said with a smile. "Excuse me, I pride myself on always being un-freaked." Coulson shrugged. "Uh, let's see, just came out of the framework so I've got history teacher Coulson and shield Coulson both in my head." Best to not mention the bit with Ghost Rider. "We got rid of AIDA and were about to go to the diner for a bite to eat. I was going to change my arm when I saw the coin." “I remember that,” Daisy said, nodding. “The Framework, anyway. Sounds like we’re from about the same time, except I got a lot of those in [...] kind of a dream. I never left Atlantis, they just crammed a bunch of new memories into my head.” She’d had a bitch of a headache, but the plus side was that she’d been in a much better place, ready to move on from everything that had happened with HIVE and losing Lincoln. It was progress, anyway. “It’s been over a year since you were here last,” she added, realizing the time had probably been different for him. She couldn’t remember exactly where they’d lined up before. “You’ll be thrilled to know Ward’s still here.” Pausing, she couldn’t help a small smirk. “And you missed FitzSimmons’ wedding.” "A year?" Coulson said, giving her an incredulous look. Despite the time in the framework and getting to know - and work with - a different Ward, he still twitched at the name, his prosthetic hand tightening into a fist. Before he could think more on it, his attention jumped. "What?! Fitzsimmons got married and I missed it?? Damn it!" “Yup.” Daisy’s expression turned smug as his indignation. “Guess you should have picked up that coin sooner, huh? They got married last month." Coulson threw an arm around her, jokingly moving as if he were going to put her into a headlock. "Uh-huh. As if it's that easy to just hop universes. Isn't the whole thing of time travel you're either too late or too early?" “Well, I’m no expert in time travel,” she teased, “but I’d say you’re definitely late. You missed all the cool stuff.” Sure, maybe you couldn’t help when the coins found you. Maybe she was glad he was here now, but that wasn’t going to stop her from giving him a hard time. Coulson gave her another hug. "Don't you know, a SHIELD agent is never late or early. They arrive precisely when they mean to." He released her with a smile. "What do say to going to grab a bite to eat. Fill me in on everything I missed here while I was gone?" “I think you’re confusing ‘SHIELD agent’ with ‘wizard,’” Daisy suggested, laughing before agreeing. “What are you in the mood for?” she asked. “Atlantis has a little bit of everything. You can even get a butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks or go hang out at the Lourve here.” "Are you trying to tell me Nick Fury isn't a wizard? Because I'm pretty sure he is," Phil teased back with a chuckle. "Let's save those for another day. Right now, how about a good burger and a cold beer?" “I know just the place,” Daisy said, grinning as she reached for her bag. “Let’s go. I can give you the tour on the way.” |
