Jacen Solo sometimes wished that he wasn’t always leaving Atlantis for other worlds when there was a particular mission. It wasn’t that he didn’t enjoy his work on those teams or feel that he was contributing, but rather that frequently he found himself wanting to explore – to take the time to really understand a place and to explore the location, the people and animals that were in it. Today as he found himself in San Francisco, glancing around the park, he found himself reminded of that wish. He could see the city in the distance and the generally cool, but temperate climate made him want to go exploring. He could smell the air, and generally feel the population around him. It looked like a beautiful city, and the sort of place that he’d enjoy wandering around and talking to the local population in. Or… perhaps taking Allana or Tenel Ka out with him somewhere. That wasn’t why he was here, however, and he knew it. There was a mission to be accomplished, and while it might involve talking with the local population, it wasn’t going to be quite the same as what he might desire in his heart, and that was all right. He’d signed up for this duty, and he needed to follow through on it. The team had spent time reviewing the information that they had, looking over the intelligence and tidbits that they had. The paintings had disappeared and presumably they were here in San Francisco. It was up to Jacen’s team to determine where that would be. He lifted his eyes to gaze around the horizon, his eyes falling on a lady walking a dog, and a man jogging with a stroller. It was all pretty typical and what Jacen was interested in was the atypical. He reached out into the Force, working to sense if there was something somewhere that might lead him further into the goal of finding the lost paintings. Nothing immediately came to view, but he persisted, coming up mostly empty handed even as a noise near the bench drew his attention. Two dogs were having an altercation as the two humans attached to them sought to draw them apart on their leashes. Jacen’s lips quirked up in a smirk, and he reached out in the Force towards the two animals. Be kind, they’re not interested in harming you, he suggested to each of them. The dogs stopped barking and seemed to eye each other for a moment, and then, one stepped forward, bumping the nose of the other. The humans seemed bewildered, but not unrelieved by this turn of events, and apologized to each other, the dogs being pulled in their opposite directions. Jacen walked towards the bench as the dogs took off, his attention being drawn to a paper near the leg of the bench. He reached down and plucked the paper off of the damp ground. It looked as if it had been there for several days and he was about ready to trash it when a piece of it fell off in his hand. He frowned, and reached down to pick up that piece as another came off. The odd thing really was that it didn’t feel as if the paper ought to be so fragile. It wasn’t so damp that it felt as if it should be falling apart. As a third piece fell onto the bench, he looked at the paper and realized that the remaining pieces seemed to be outlining… a key? Maybe this was precisely the sort of atypical thing he was looking for. He reached for his comm. |
Guys, I've got something kind of strange here.
