claire ✦ katima
Hey kid low/mention of violence complete |
Katima felt an odd sense of nervousness settle over her as she approached the door to her mother’s office. Liv had offered to come up with her, but she’d waved her off, deciding it was something she needed to do on her own. Leaning on her aunt came easily, even at a time where she was weirdly younger, but there was nothing to fear here. Deep down she knew that. Even traveling through the building that housed Atlantis’ military was strange. All of this had been taken over by COS in her time. Everything in Atlantis was different, but being able to walk right into this building and make her way towards the medical floor? That was a surreal experience. She was still taking a lot of it in. This was an Atlantis she and her friends had only ever heard about. For her, it almost felt like something out of a fairy tale. Knowing she was about to come face to face with her mother for the first time in over two decades didn’t lessen that feeling any. Rapping her knuckles against the door quickly before she could let nerves get the better of her, Katima’s heart was in her throat when she heard the somehow still familiar voice call out that she could come it. She did so and for a moment all she could do was stare in awe. Claire Callahan looked very much like Katima remembered. While many of her friends and those who had come from what seemed to be other timelines kept remarking on how young their parents looked, for Katima, her mother was only a few years younger than her last memory of her. It was almost as if no time at all had passed since the day they’d lost her. “Mom,” she breathed and then her feet carried her forward, finally, as she forgot her earlier vow to remember that this was all new to this woman and rushed toward her to give her a big hug. Claire still wasn't sure she was dreaming, there was no way that she could have children, much less from what she could tell, children with Kai Parker. Alright, it wasn't so surprising she felt a connection to him, but she still was having a hard time understanding how all of this could happen. Atlantis, it was Atlantis. That was about all she could figure out. She knew her daughter was on her way to find her and Claire felt bad she hadn't gone out to find Katima herself. Instead, she waited and time passed quickly. She was surprised to see her in the flesh and even more surprised by the arms that wrapped around her, she reacted a little slowly as she wrapped her arms around her daughter, she felt that click people talked about with their children, but she was still overwhelmed to the point where she couldn't even formulate words. Katima pulled back, trying to compose herself. The woman in front of her was barely older than she was. It was a few years now before she and her brother would even be conceived and she knew it had to be really confusing and overwhelming for her and that she probably wasn’t helping with that. “Sorry,” she murmured. “I’m just.. Really glad to see you. I didn’t mean to.. This has to be really weird for you.” It was very overwhelming, but Claire was good with weird situations, so she managed to keep herself somewhat under control without expressing too much surprise. "It's okay," she told her, and she meant it. "It's a little weird, but it's not the bad kind of weird." Claire offered with a small smile. "It must be strange for you too, coming to the past like this." “Maybe, but it’s a really good kind of strange,” Katime assured her, almost echoing back the same words. She didn’t know if she wanted to tell her everything, so how could she explain what an amazing chance this was? Claire felt like there was so much that she needed to know and so much she wasn't sure she wanted to know. "I don't mean to jump into the hard stuff, but I'd love to know what you can tell me about the future, what happens if you are okay if you have siblings." She carefully didn't ask about her father. Katima hesitated for just a second, because she didn’t know how much she should tell her. She wanted to answer her questions and she didn’t want to lie to her, but how was she supposed to answer that? “I have a twin brother,” she started with. “His name is Kader and I- I don’t think he’s here yet. I guess we haven’t had the easiest life, but we’ve gotten through it.” "Twins?" Claire blinked startled and a little bit shocked. She wasn't against having twins it was just, well it was also something that she had a feeling could be very dangerous. "I hope he comes as well I'd really like to meet him." She finally got out. "Are you both okay, I mean, I know he's not here..." “We’re both alive,” Katima offered, pausing just a moment as she considered things. “I’m not really sure how much you want to know [...] about the future.” “I think it is important that I know,” she wasn’t sure she wanted to know, but she felt a need to know. Nodding, Katima tried to think about how to actually say it. “You’re, um... we haven’t actually seen you since we were really little. Around 3, I think. And he.. he thought it was our fault, so between that and the fact we’re Gemini Twins....” trailing off for a second as she lifted her head to look at her mother, she forced herself to finish the statement. “we’ve been hunted our whole lives.” Well, that confirmed what she partly already knew, something happened in the future that was horrible, she could tell that but her dying when her kids were just 3 and Kai wanting to kill his own children? She knew he was capable of it and he was the kind to be triggered and go off to an even worse path. "I'm so sorry," Claire finally whispered after a few moments. It was one of the moments in her life that she really didn't know what to say. “It’s not your fault,” Katima argued. “None of it was your fault. I’m just really glad to have this chance now, to spend time with you and get to know you.” “I know it,” Claire knew it wasn’t her fault but she could still be sorry that her daughter had to grow up that way. “I’m sorry I was gone before I could really raise either of you.” “I am, too,” Katima admitted, although that was probably a given, “but I’m really glad I can spend time with your now. There’s so much I want to know about you.” "Well, ask away, I'll do my best to answer whatever I can." Claire offered with a smile. "Although maybe we could pick up food and head somewhere other than my office." Smiling, Katima nodded. “That sounds really great. Simp Hop?” “Simp Hop,” Claire agreed with a smile as she turned to grab her things. As they left she locked the door and switched off the light. |
