atlantis here comes mellie PG COMPLETE |
This was not what she was expecting when she woke up and headed to work for another boring day. Mellie had just sent in one of her columns and she thought it was one of her better ones. She had a great scoop on Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley that she’d managed to get, and one on how she was pretty sure Katie Bell had just tried to steal Alicia Spinnet’s new boyfriend Franc Montague, the brother of Graham Montague. After all, she has an amazing show of Katie and Franc hugging right before Franc was to meet with his girlfriend. Today, however, ended up being kidnapped by a coin of all things to Atlantis, she was tasked with being an Intake Agent, which she was perfectly okay with, what better way to get to know everyone here? She had a feeling that no matter what happened, this place was going to be ripe for gossip, being here a few minutes she started to read all of the information on the network, oh, this place was going to be remarkable for what her true passion was, and there were a lot of good looking people. The hologram had been informative enough, so Mellie headed out into the world where she found herself sitting in a bar called "The Dive" these were always the best places to people watch and get the real lowdown on a place, so that's where she was. She had a twinge of uncertainty about if she'd stay or not, but she had a week to decide and she was going to use that time to see if this was the kind of place she could enjoy or not. Ordering the Blue Bubbles, she was surprised that the drink really did do what it advertised, tasting exactly like her favorite Cava. Mona had stepped things up at work with Daisy on mission. The woman left things pretty solid but in their job there was always the possibility of random. She’d left a few programs to run overnight and headed to Dive figuring she’d get a drink in before a very long rest of the week. She’d ordered a Blue Bubbles and glanced across to the woman, she was pretty sure she was one of the two new arrivals she’d seen mentioned. That little almost impressed look when the drink turned out to do exactly what she’d said gave it away. “Kate or Mellie?” she asked curiously, sipping her own blue drink which tasted right now like a beautiful Irish cream. “I’m Mona. Been here a while so I can probably help with any questions. I mean, I have time to kill and plan to drink at least two more of these so, shoot?” She didn’t know why she was feeling helpful. She’d felt so much better since the memories of the future had hit her, Alex Drake and her mother where they could never hurt anyone again. Everything had worked out and everyone was happy. It made it much easier to enjoy her life here. She was feeling generous. "Mellie," she answered with a smile. Clearly, this was someone who paid attention to the comings and goings of the people in Atlantis. She'd almost asked her to guess but refrained from it. "It's nice to meet you," she said earnestly. "And thank you, I have to admit this is all a little overwhelming." That was very true. It was overwhelming to be taken to a new land without knowing it by a coin that did not feel like a portkey. "I guess the first thing is, what are the do's and don't's of Atlantis? I know what the hologram said, but I feel like there might be more." “Oh it takes time, and it doesn’t matter what weird crap you’ve seen before, this place will blow it all out of the water before too long. It’s a choice. You know that though, they’re very clear on it. But if you chose to stay you get to experience it all. In my case, yeah there’s some things I miss from home but the things I get to do here? Chances I’d never get. For me it’s worth it, other people made the same call.” Her things she missed weren't what people would call normal but then she was used to being different. “Aside from the obvious? Take your time, get to know the place, the people, how it all comes together. I mean, I know we’re fighting to save reality and all but sometimes it feels like the most epic of reality shows. All these people who by all rights never should cross paths, lives so different intertwining. I people watch sometimes, just to see how they work.” "Okay, so first lesson, don't go off about how I might be used to weird stuff because this place will surpass it," Mellie said nodding her head. "I think I can do that." Oh, she easily could do that. "It would seem selfish to run away from this kind of fight, even if it is sort of hard to believe," she just got there, of course, it was hard to believe, it sounded insane on most levels. No matter how true it was, it was weird. "What do you mean?" Mellie asked with wide eyes, she really did want to know, and besides, she hadn't had the chance to really learn about all the different kinds of people here yet. Mellie wanted to know and Mona mostly liked the sound of her own voice much of the time. And she was pretty knowledgeable about this stuff. “Basically yeah. You’ll get less surprised at weirdness as time goes on but just on occasion it still manages it with me so, y’know, ready for anything is wise.” The selfish to run away thing, well she didn’t know about that. Mona and reality, she would admit, had a taxing relationship a lot of the time. But she was seeing a psychiatrist voluntarily, taking her medication religiously. She liked it here, and so she fought with them. In her own way. “I mean, just can you imagine, there are people from space. Who grew up on actual alien planets, people with all kinds of powers, and there are people from history, there’s a guy who’s like a Chess Grandmaster in his world and then there’s Captain frickin Kirk. None of these people were ever supposed to meet but they do. They have. It’s just weirdly fun to watch.” "What kind of weirdness are we talking about exactly?" It was a fair question, if it was going to surprise her and it wasn't something anyone was actually used to, she should at least have some concept of what had happened right? Be ready for anything and all. "Captain Kirk? As in from Star Trek? A Chess Grandmaster?" Mellie might be magical but she paid attention to muggle trends, they could often be useful for her own personal needs, although she was picturing the William Shatner version of the character. "What's one of the more interesting things you've seen, with all these different people?" “Missions, we go off world, we go to other people's worlds to fight the people trying to break reality. Get back things that we need to protect. But that’s the simple part. That’s the bit that makes sense. Sometimes people turn colors. Sometimes they switch powers, or bodies, or every other thing you can possibly think of it has or will happen at some point. Yesterday people needed, just pure needed to make beds and a few days ago a bunch of people got turned into real lifesized teddy bears.” She shrugged. “Like I said, weird.” As for the most interesting, god there was so much. “Sometimes people make friends and you couldn’t have seen it coming. Sometimes people with awful pasts turn it around here and...well sometimes they don’t. I can’t pick just one thing. Everyone has a story Mellie. Here, we just get to see it all play out.” Mellie nodded, she'd need to read up more on exactly what people did on missions, but that was for another time. "I'm sorry, people turned into teddy bears?" Of all the things, that was the one that caught her attention. "That would be, well, interesting to see." She admitted with a couple of blinks. "People have a way of surprising you, even when they aren't thrown into a weird place like this," people grew up, changed, situations changed them, she imagined this place was just the same on that front, just with some added bonuses of being very weird. "I guess I'll just have to do my best to settle in here and start my own story." She should have asked more questions, but something about the way that Mona spoke stopped her. "So, where is the best place for good food here? The tablet gives a lot of information, but..." “Oh that’s only the tip of the WTF Atlantis iceberg. But you’ll see that yourself sooner or later. And the situations will have their impact on you. But you decide to stay here you kind of sign up for that. By way of reward though the multiverse and reality doesn’t explode or whatever.” As for food. Mona had a lot of favourites. It depended on what you wanted. “How fancy do you want to go? Cinders is pretty high class, Float Back is all your organic stuff, Stone does like the BEST pizzas. Everyone agrees, except the New Yorkers apparently. There’s SImp Hop which does Asian food really well. This place has literally everything you could want. Unless you’re a New Yorker who wants pizza which you aren’t. Also cofee. Also also baked goods.” She could keep going, but overloading the new girl seemed mean. Even for her. One thing was very clear to Mellie as she listened to Mona speak, she liked to be an expert and probably enjoyed being in control and seen as such. "I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to seeing all these crazy things or a little bit nervous." She was actually just very curious, but she came off as more nervous about than she was. "It sounds like the issue isn't so much where is good but what one is in the mood for," Mellie laughed with a slightly nervous laugh. "And New Yorkers do seem to have a lot of opinions on what is and isn't best, but I've always been more partial to Neapolitan pizza myself." Oh Mona absolutely liked to be in control. It was why she’d lost it so impressively when it had been taken from her. But she had it back. At least at home. And it was different here, easier. She just got on with things and yes there were things it was best Emily and Aria didn’t know. Maybe that was best. They wouldn’t get it. What she’d done. “I do love Stone. Probably my favourite place here, but currently I favour French food.” she said with a soft little smile. “Nervous is fine. Probably wise. You’ll do okay.” she said. She didn’t take people at face value. She never did. But Mellie was new. And nervous was a sensible way to be on finding yourself somewhere like Atlantis. "I guess I'll have to check out Stone first," she said making up her mind, pizza places were another good place to watch people, while some of the others sounded better to her, like the organic place, pizza was a friendly food. "I'm sure I'll get my feet under me eventually! It's just going to take a few days before I feel it probably," Mellie knew she would be fine, this place might be strange, but it was proving to be very interesting. "Well, I'm going to go get something to eat, unless you'd like to join me?" She offered. Mona shrugged. She could go for some food. And she could probably stand to know people outside of the others from home and Daisy and the other techies. And Mellie was just interesting enough to matter. “Sure. Pizza could be fun and you can ask anything else you want to. I might even give you honest answers. Depends on my mood” she replied with a smile quickly finishing her drink and standing up. Laughing Mellie nodded as she collected her bag putting it over her shoulder. “I’ll make sure my qustions count.” |
