Sweat dripped down her face, her focus entirely on the heavy bag in front of her. She swung with her left, then the right. Both fists connected with more force than when she started training with Cara and John. She used her ability, teleporting her in from of the opposite side of the bag. She kicked, then punched before teleporting again. And again. And again until she was drained. This was harder than dancing and that frustrated Sophie. It took more time to control her abilities then it did to learn a new routine. It started as a way to understand her sister and bond. Once it became a challenge, Sophie was determined to control her abilities instead of them controlling her. Pulling the tape off of her hands she made her way over to her water, taking a long sip. Atlantis. It wasn’t so bad. David knew bad and he knew that things could have been a lot worse. He could have ended up in darker places. Hell, he could have been killed. Being here topped a few things that was for sure and so there would be no complaining on his end. At least not yet. He had been set up as a bartender at Dive and that was all fine and good, but that didn’t mean that he was just going to sit back and relax while things went on around him. Certain things were put into perspective for him and he knew he had to be on his A-game around here. Just because he was a jumper didn’t mean he was untouchable. He knew that now. Which was what brought him to the gym that day. He had just planned on getting some training in while things were quiet but when he spotted Sophie lost in her training he couldn’t help but stand back and watch her work. She was a teleporter. That was what caught his attention right off the bat. Someone like him but likely not exactly the same. It intrigued him and once she paused David moved in. “Hey,” he greeted her, that charming smile of his in full effect. “Putting in work, huh? I’m David.” She knew that she had definitely not seen him around before. “Hey there,” Sophie greeted him with a friendly smile. “Trying to. A little practice.” With enough practice and learned control she hopes to turn the table on her sister during their training sessions. “I’m Sophie. It’s nice to meet you.” It still felt strange to her. Training to use her supernatural abilities when back home her time would have been used to train for different roles in ballet productions. She hadn't wanted these powers or to be anything less than normal...but now she thought differently. They were a part of her and she couldn't imagine not having them. Nodding his head as she explained things, David smiled. “Looks like we’ve got the same mind set.” Because heaven knew David needed the practice. “Nice to meet you, Sophie.” She was cute and David didn’t even try to hide his lingering stare. “You’re a teleporter?” He asked as if that hadn’t already been obvious. The only other person he had ever seen with his type of power had been Griff and he was an ass. He had a right to be considering the circumstances but still. He wanted to learn things he didn’t know. Figure out his limits. He wanted all the knowledge he could get about himself and his power. If there were more like him around here? Things would be a lot different. “Have you been here long?” she asked curiously. New arrivals and departures seemed to happen frequently. Though there was pattern that she could figure out other than what days people came in and left. Sophie hadn't figured out how and why people were picked. Once upon a time this was something she’d have been forced to deny and kept secret but everything about their worlds and who they were were stored in the library. Instead she answered honestly. “Something like that. We’re called Tomorrow People,” Sophie chuckled. She didn't bother to hide her amusement at the title, at least not here with David. Had Cara been present she was sure to have gotten a look from her. Sophie teased her about this more than once. “Since you know something about me it's only fair that you tell me something about you,” she teased. “Nah, just a couple days.” Which was still pretty weird and he wasn’t afraid to admit that. David was used to the normal outside of his ability. Everything else from vampires to witches to werewolves to trained assassins was all still pretty new to him. “You? Been here long?” David was a pro at keeping his jumper power a secret. At least he had been until Roland had shown up at his apartment and tried to take him out. That was a whole different story though. This wasn’t like that. And everyone would know about him now. A downfall of this place. “Tomorrow People, huh?” That was the first time he heard of them but they weren’t exactly the same. He was a jumper. And his ability was still progressing. He still wanted to push the limits and see how much he could really do. With her comment, David smirked and nodded his head. And in the blink of an eye he disappeared and appeared behind her a moment later with two beers from Dive. “Now you know something about me.” "A bit longer than that. A few months now." She remembered appearing here that day. It was when she's found out she had abilities and wasn't quite so normal. "It hasn't gotten any less strange here," she told him, giving him a friendly smile. "At least it's the fun kind of strange? And it never seems to last for long." Not much was a secret in Atlantis. Some days that annoyed her. She could look things up. Anyone could know pretty much anything about everyone here. She nodded. "I know it's a strange name. I thought so when my sister told me." It was all still pretty new to Sophie. Once she decided to train and to use her abilities so she didn't get hurt, she dived right in. David had disappeared right before her eyes. Hearing him, she turned to him. Now that was interesting! He was like her! Sophie grinned at him. "How long have you been able to teleport?" she asked. "How does it work?" Sophie was curious to find out just how closely their abilities worked. David knew that things could be a lot worse. He could be stuck in some war against the paladins. Fighting to stay alive. Eventually fighting against his mother in the process. He would choose Atlantis over going back. “Definitely has it’s strange moments but it ain’t so bad.” Some secrets were meant to be kept so David still wasn’t sure how he felt about having all his shit bare for everyone to look up and see. He didn’t trust anyone much unless he really got to know them and now everyone would know who and what he was at the drop of a hat. That charming smirk of his formed on lips at her reaction and he reached out to hand her over the drink, “My first time was when I was five.” He admitted, remembering the scene as he nodded, “But I really tapped into it when I was fifteen.” Leaning back against the wall he tilted his head, “I just think about where I want to go and I jump. Anywhere in the world. I can take things or bring things back.” he grinned. “It’s pretty simple. No. It wasn't. He was right about that. If she was back home life as she knew it for her was over. She would be hunted by Ultra until they found her and every other Tomorrow person. The strangeness of this place freaked her out at first but she’d grown used to it. It was kind of cool to experience parts of The Harry Potter world through it. “Thanks,” she grinned at him taking the drink. “When you were five?” If this had happened to her when she was younger she’d have had an entirely different life. It sounded like it was pretty easy for him, as though he's had a lifetime of practice. “Coolest place you traveled?” Sipping on his own drink he nodded his head. “It was really only like the one time when I was that young.” He tilted his head as he thought about it. “There was a lot that made me forget about it until I was fifteen.” Like his mother leaving and his father turning into an asshole drunk. “I think Egypt and Paris are my two top favorites.” Because they were places that he visited every single day back when he was home. “Wake up in New York and eat breakfast or lunch on top of a pyramid. Didn’t really get any better than that.” “How did you learn? Did someone teach you?” She asked. She had Cara teaching her. She was sure she'd have gone crazy had it not been for her sister. Just hearing the voices alone when she had no idea, no control had been too much. To see Egypt and Paris…she couldn't imagine. She was a little jealous. Sophie hadn't really stopped to think about possibilities like that when this first happened to her. “That sounds like the best kind of day. “No, no one taught me anything.” He admitted with a shrug. “When I jumped it was an accident. A means to escape a sticky situation. From there I just learned how to control it by myself.” He lifted the drink to his lips and took a long sip. “It wasn’t that hard.. I never knew there was anyone else like me until recently.” His time in Rome had put a lot of things into perspective for him. Putting Millie in danger and meeting Griff, the fights. It was crazy and for once David was in a place where he didn’t have to think about all of that shit. “It was the best kind of day.” Every single day he did some shit like that. He couldn’t get enough of his life back home until it all went to shit. Now he was here and he was starting over. |
