WHO Cassie Blake & Sam Matthews. |
Being in Atlantis was fucking weird. He wasn't sure if he hated it or sort of liked it. He didn't like the idea of being recruited to fight in somebody's war. He was done with anything even resembling Division. Alex had been here longer than he was and seemed to think it wasn't such a terrible place. The whole magic thing still threw him for a loop. And now there was this whole Hogwarts thing. Alex thought it would be fun if they tried out. He hadn't been expecting to make the team. A chaser. For now Sam put all of that out of his mind while he went out for an early run to the beach. He slowed to a walk when he reached the beach. The beach was practically empty save for a young blonde girl. "Morning," he greeted her as he approached. To say things were weird was probably a fucking understatement. Cassie wasn’t a stranger to the supernatural world, at least not to the witches and demons side of things, but Atlantis had way more to offer in those aspects. Who knew that there was a whole other world like this? Worlds. It was crazy to think about and when she actually tried it just gave her a headache. The stuff with Hogwarts was pretty neat though. She’d at least admit that. She had read the books and saw parts of the movies but actually living things? That was another thing. It was exciting and new and it took her thoughts off of what had happened back home. She had lost Adam and was forced to remember every detail about their love. She had killed her father. The circle was gone now that she wasn’t in Chance Harbor. Things were just a jumbled mess inside of her head and the only thing that really made her feel a little more comfortable was the beach. Cassie was lost in thought as she stared out at the water. She was still in the jeans and black v-neck sweater from the night before, not having gotten much sleep thanks to the stars missing from her ceiling. Yep, there were things she would have to get used to here in Atlantis. But she was torn away from those thoughts when a voice broke through and she glanced over her shoulder at Sam, “Oh, hey. Hi.” She offered the stranger a little smile in return. “Morning.” Because she rambled. It was what she really did best at times. Sam’s own thoughts were a mess. He still struggled with his memories and finding out who he really was. Asshole. That's what Sam really was. He couldn't block out or quiet Owen though. It was hard to be a total asshole with that guy in his head. Alex helped with all of that - finding a balance, wanting to be better. “I don't usually find people out here this early,” he commented. Sam came here frequently to work through all of his thoughts. He realized he didn't recognize her. He didn't know if that meant she was new or he just hadn't seen her because he wasn't exactly the kind to just join into things. Not without a little prodding from Alex. “New here?” he asked. Cassie knew that her problems were likely far less than most around here. She might have even felt a little selfish for brooding and sulking about it all. Fact was she was still only seventeen and she had been through a lot in such a short time. It was only natural that she tried to figure things out. Sort through it and figure out if she was really just crazy or fucked up. The dark magic inside of herself was hard to ignore. It pulled at her. Tempted her. And every time her thumb swept over her other palm and she felt the mark of her father she knew it was only a matter of time before she gave into it. It just felt too good. “It’s got that calming effect.” She admitted as she glanced back to the water. “Calms me enough that I can clear my head.” It didn’t help things that she had been in the water back in her room and even drank some. Now she had a hard time keeping the truth at bay. Not that she wouldn’t be honest, but she sure as hell would have played things off better. “Yep. Just been here a few days.” She reached out her non-marked hand to shake his and offered him a smile. “I’m Cassie.” “I know what you mean,” Sam agreed. “It's why I come out here early,” he added. He wasn't Owen Elliot anymore but he wasn't entirely Sam Matthews either. And it left his head a loud, murky mess. This was the place he felt calm and almost at peace. “Sam,” he said, reaching his hand out to shake hers. “So what's your story?” Sam questioned, taking a seat in the sand. Sam’s question might be considered blunt but he chose to see it more as being direct. If her head needed clearing, he didn't think she came from a world where the sun always shined. “Looks like we have something in common.” Somehow the sound of the water always seemed to calm her down. She needed it to ground herself. Everything was just so muddled right now that she didn’t know where to turn with her thoughts. Shaking his hand, Cassie offered him a warm smile. “Nice to meet you, Sam.” He seemed like he was alright. And that was what Cassie needed to be around right now. “My story..” Cassie repeated as she took in a breath and laughed softly, running her fingers through her blonde locks. “Some wouldn’t even believe it.” Which is why she never really caught herself speaking out loud about it unless she was with Adam, Jake, or the girls. “I guess the short version is I’m a witch. A powerful witch. But like, I guess not the normal kind like Glenda the good witch.” “I didn’t believe in a lot until I turned up here,” Sam admitted. It had taken awhile for him to believe that this wasn’t somehow connected to Division. And it took even longer for him to accept that magic existed. All of his life that was just something in movies. A witch? Her? She was just a kid and she looked...normal. Then again so did he. And he was a well trained killer. “The whole witches and magic being real thing...its kind of new for me.” “What kind are you then?” “Crazy, huh?” And it wasn’t just the fact that they ended up here but the shit that was going on. Who knew Hogwarts really existed and they could be apart of all of this madness. In truth she would have taken all this rather than the stuff they were being put through back home. And if she had known what was coming before she picked up that coin? She would have dove for it a little faster. “I didn’t really know much about it until earlier this year.” Well, earlier this year in her time which likely wasn’t his time and just made it all the more confusing in her head. “I have dark magic in me. Which kinda sounds weird but yeah.” She shrugged. “Makes me more powerful when I tap into it.” “Insane, kid,” he agreed. “My world as far as I’m aware had no magic. We had a lot of crazy in our own way though.” Secret government groups. Psycho Amanda who scrambled his brain like she was making an omelette. “This has been a lot to take in. Still not entirely sure I believe it.” He half expected to wake up from a dream one of these days. Needless to say...that hadn’t happened so far. “Dark magic?” he questioned, giving the petite blonde a once over. That sounded dark and menacing and he couldn’t believe that the girl sitting before him could be referred to in anyway as dark. “Speaking another language there to me. What can you do with it?” “Doesn’t everyone?” There was frown on her face followed by a sigh as she pulled her knees up to her chest and hugged them. Cassie had been through way too much as just the age of 17. Sometimes she even forgot that she was literally just a kid. Someone with all this power and responsibility shouldn’t have been this young or thrown into a world of unknown. “How can you not believe it? Nightmares don’t last this long.” She perked up at his question and nodded her head. “I haven’t tapped into it fully yet but I know it’s pretty powerful. I was about to take down some pretty hardcore witch hunters. ..and my father.” which was probably something she shouldn’t have been sharing with a stranger but hell, he could look her up if he really wanted to. “You’d be surprised how long some of my nightmares have lasted.” At the time they hadn’t seemed like nightmares. Then again he didn’t know anything. Amanda had wiped his brain clean, making him a perfect soldier for Division to mold into the compliant assassin he once was. “When people poke around your brain, controlling your memories and everything you think you know...It’s not exactly easy to pick out what’s real and what’s not. Who’s to say this isn’t more of that?” Witch hunters and...her father? He looked her over, noticing just how young she was, how young she looked there hugging her knees. “Witch hunters...your father?” He’d heard her about the magic but to find out that she was hunted. “People hunted you?” He thoughts echoed in his words but it was hard to stomach the thought. Cassie might have looked young but she had matured way to fast. She has so much loss in her life that there was simply no other way for her to be. It was crazy to think about and it left her stuck in a rut. How had everything turned upside down iso much in such a short time? Watching him Cassie frowned at his words. “Is that what happened to you?” She couldn’t help but to ask. She was curious and she was openly telling him about herself, it was only fair that he shared too, right? “It wasn’t exactly like that but there was a lot of manipulation involved to get me to do some of the things I did.” “Yep. Eventually it became like a typical day and if we weren’t drowning in witch stuff it was an off day.” She shrugged. “Nothing like having your mom murdered just to get you to move back to small town where you find out you’re a witch. Have your father who was supposed to be dead come back into your life just to get you to tap into your dark magic. Lose the love of your life, and kill witch hunters. Kill your father because he wanted to kill any witch that doesn’t have his bloodline and then watch as your sister decides to leave town.” She paused. She was thinking out loud really. “Sorry..” Sam nodded. Today had been a day he felt more like Owen than himself. “This bitch back home played around in my head and took all my memories of me and who I was. Made me into what they wanted.” His words were a little harsher than he’d intended but he was still bitter about it. He didn’t like being controlled by anyone. “And then when it suited her...she brought ‘em all back.” And that was something Sam couldn’t stand for. Manipulating people into doing things. He really didn’t know what else to say. At least he was grown and having to cope with this shit. Which...he’d never done well. But she was a kid. “Sorry that happened to you,” Sam finally said, looking at her. Cassie turned her body to face him as her brow arched and she stared at him just a little too long. “So wait, you have both memories? Of who you are and who they made you?” That’s what he was saying right? She frowned at the idea and slowly shook her head. Her she was going on about her bullshit and he had so much more going on inside his head, literally. She felt really bad. “I’m sorry. I can’t even imagine.” Cassie wasn’t grown but she sure as hell felt like it. She reached up and ran her fingers through her hair and gently shrugged her shoulders. “No need to be sorry. I guess we learn from all of this somewhere right?” She sighed. “Makes us stronger and all of that.” Cassie was really trying to look at the bigger picture here but sometimes it was just hard. She didn’t want to dwell on it for too long though. Then she knew she would drown in her thoughts and never come back up. “I’ve got Owen’s and mine.” he said in a way of answering. “Owen...that’s who I was when they took my memories,” he added as an explanation. Owen and Sam were two very different people. “Not your fault.” It wasn’t her fault. It was Amanda’s and Percy’s and everyone who was behind Division. “That’s one way to look at it.” She slowly shook her head. “No, but it still isn’t right.” She told him with a frown. It seemed like everyone was out to get someone in some way. Cassie genuinely felt bad for Sam. She couldn’t imagine living with someone else’s memories bouncing around in her head. Then again there was a time where she couldn’t imagine living as a witch who held some pretty dark magic inside of her that was hard to control either. “It’s really all I can hold on to right now.” She admitted. It was something that she needed to hold on to otherwise she would fall apart and with her magic being tied to her emotions lately it wasn’t a good idea to lose her shit. “You wanna get out of here and go get some coffee or something? You can tell me more about you.” “Coffee, pancakes and bacon. That sounds pretty good right about now.” Sam didn't know what it was about this girl but he didn't feel entirely out of place with her. Sam stood up and extended his hand to help her up so they could make their way to breakfast. |
