There are very few people that Abe enjoys spending time with on a regular basis in large doses. He can handle most anyone in small doses, but the others are few and far in between. His granddaughter was likely at the top of that list. As it turned out, for as lacking of a father he had been during Rosemarie’s early years, Abe made an excellent and hands-on grandfather whether it was babysitting Ivan on a regular basis or taking Taisia out for dinner. Both of their schedules could be busy with their respective jobs and duties, but he usually tried to make time to treat her to dinner or an afternoon out fairly often. Today was a quick lunch and miniature golf. If only some of his former business contacts could see him now. They'd already picked up some lunch and were a few holes into the course. The only thing sun had mostly set for which Abe was grateful for otherwise his putting skills would have been severely hampered by the sun’s harsh rays. Taisia was still winning, of course, but Abe wasn't so far behind. He didn't have the reflexes and hand-eye coordination of a dhampir, but he certainly had patience and the heightened senses of a Moroi. There was a particularly unusual hole coming up with the objective being to get the ball around a pirate’s boot and down a trough leading to a parrot’s mouth. Abe just stared at the new hole in front of them. “I sometimes wonder if they have children create these courses.” Oh yeah, for as difficult as it was to deal with the whole, hey your parents aren't parent aged and your Dede is a lot younger too thing, Taisia found she easily found her relationship with Dede to be similar. She felt like she got to see him more here in Atlantis, but that could be because they just happened to all live in the same area and were all fighting the same war, or well whatever people did otherwise here. Laughing she gave him an exasperated look. "See, I always thought it was made by people who were obsessed with Alice and Wonderland and took part in some less than savory things." She teased as she watched the parrot's mouth. "Or someone with a serious bird fetish." She added having noticed a few different bird type things along the course. "So, you ready for the wedding?" As he eyed the parrot, Abe simply raised a brow in thought at her comment. Well, taking part in some less savory things was probably right. And not far from how he ran his own business both here and at home. “Now that you mention it,” he said with a smirk. “It may be a mix of all of the above.” Ah, the wedding. Abe had a few mixed feelings about his daughter’s wedding to Dimitri Belikov, but overall he had no problem with it. But she was still his only daughter. As her father, he was allowed to have a few reservations even if Taisia was proof that he didn’t eventually have to break Belikov’s fingers for some reason or another. “As ready as I suppose I can be. Your mother seems to want to keep me out of the planning stages though. I have no idea why that is.” Oh, of course, he knew, but he still had his own ways of adding personal touches here and there without her knowledge. “And you? Are you ready to watch your parents get married?” "That's because she doesn't want everything to be draped in theme colored scarves!" She teased with a bright smile. Taisia loved her Dede's scarves, and even though he might not remember it all now, she used to steal them as a child. She was pretty sure he knew that she was doing it (it wasn't like she hid wearing them or using them as blankets), but that was never the point... Studying the hole, she shot her ball swift and hard, probably too hard for mini-golf but it went exactly where it was supposed to with a rather loud thump. "I don't know." She answered honestly distracting herself with collecting her ball before continuing on. "It's just weird. After everything that happened at Breck, and now we are all here... I don't know. I mean, clearly I want them to be happy and married and all that good stuff, but, I don't know." “Now, now,” Abe said with a wave of his hand. “I wouldn’t drape everything with colored scarves. Wonderfully colored draperies, linens, flowers…. And then scarves for the bridal parties of course. And me too, naturally.” He winked at her. Oh, he knew exactly why Rosemarie didn’t want him anywhere near the decorating. It was a pity she seemed to take after her mother in that regard. “Hmm.” Abe studied where the ball was supposed to go as he mused all that Taisia had just said about the wedding. Setting up his shot, he tapped the ball with his putter. It didn’t go directly into the hole as she had just done so skillfully, but after a second shot, they had both completed the hole. Abe had heard stories about this Breckenridge. It wasn’t so different from Atlantis from the sound of it. “You don’t want one of them to disappear after they’re married.” He glanced over at his granddaughter. He’d heard about the revolving door of Belikovs. "I'd love to see that!" Taisia said with a playful grin. If it were up to her, she'd opt to see a wedding planned by Dede, it'd be some parts hysterical, some parts amazing and well, she was biased. A good-natured tease followed his first putt, but she hadn't said much else about it getting distracted by the game itself and her competitive nature taking over. Pausing when he brought up what she was afraid of, a small part of her wanted to be annoyed, but of course, he knew. "I've seen enough different versions of Dad, and I don't know if I'm ready to break him in again... and they have Ivan here, and I just..." She trailed off with a shrug rather than saying anything else. “I might have a few surprises for you yet,” he said with one of his trademark smiles. Rose may have been keeping him away from the wedding decorating in any official capacity, but he certainly knew how to get things done… pay people off, etc. He would have to think on this. Turning serious, though, Abe paused from taking his next shot. He didn’t like seeing her upset, so he hesitated a moment before continuing. “Having him come and go so often would make anyone want to keep themselves from being hurt again.” He wondered what the rest of that sentence might have been if she kept going. “They have you here, too, Taisia. Even without Ivan, neither would ever leave you here willingly.” "Somehow I believe that you do," Taisia grinned, she decided at that moment that she'd start to go search for what he might be up to. She wouldn't tell anyone, but she sure as heck thought it sounded like fun. "It was hard, and he was different every single time, at one point he wasn't anything like I remembered him, I guess that's normal, people are different at different ages it's just... I don't know, they don't remember me, I know they love me, but they don't remember me." Taisia said with a puzzled expression. "They wouldn't leave anyone they care about willingly. I guess it just seems weird sometimes. " Taisia was never good at expressing her emotions on this front and she just didn't want to feel like she was in the way. “I’m not sure if I can really understand what that’s been like for you - having a parent who doesn’t know you each time that they show up.” And even though she wasn’t the one that Taisia knew from her own home, Abe was at least glad that Rose seemed to be the constant in the ever-changing life of traveling worlds and dimensions. “ “I suppose there’s always a chance that he may disappear again or any of us for that matter, but each time that they do arrive, they show up and grow to love you. We all do.” Abe squeezed her shoulder gently and gave her a small smile. “And, in my opinion, you my dear, would be a very hard person to forget. And I’m very thankful that I’ve been able to get to know you and that we both happened to pick up those coins.” Taisia shouldn't let herself get down, but sometimes it was just hard not too. She tried not to most of the time, but it happened, and she couldn't help it all the time. Besides, it could be odd with the whole well everything. Smiling she blushed slightly at his view of her, leave it to her grandfather to make everything better. "You old sap!" She teased, but the smile showed how thankful she was and how safe it truly made her feel. "Come on, aren't you supposed to be trying to beat me?" “Sometimes perhaps,” Abe said with a smile. Yes, he was intimidating and could scare the pants off of the most hardened person, but he still had his more tender moments. Especially when he was in the company of his granddaughter. She was the one who likely saw this side of him more than anyone else. Pulling out their scorecard, Abe ran over the numbers. His weren’t that bad, but hers were significantly lower. Dhampir reflexes and all. Though he could still shoot an acron off of a tree from many yards away. “Ah, I think I would have to get a hole in one for the rest of the courses to come close to beating you.” Still, he set up the shot for the next hole after she played through. This one wasn’t quite so outlandish in its setup, so the ball rolled incredibly close to the hole. With his hand at his side, Abe subtly called on his earth magic to ever so slightly disturb the ground beneath the green, causing the ball to roll sideways into the hole. “Well, would you look at that. A hole in one.” |
