Who: Eddie Castile and Lissa Dragomir
When: Way back in March
Where: Lissa's office
What: Getting advice
Status: Completed gdoc
Everything was changing again and this time Lissa was actually really happy about it. She didn’t go off on mission this time and it was nice to feel like she could settle into her new role. It made sense to have her promoted to a diplomat. She also knew it’d be good to stay close to medical should anyone need her.
As she was putting a couple of pictures on her new desk she heard a knock at her door, glancing up she smiled softly. “Come on in.”
Eddie had been a bundle of nerves for the past month and a half. Granted, Eddie was always on edge when it came to most things and still had the Dhampir mantra of They come first firmly engraved in his mind. He worried, especially about Jill, and that he’d never live up to the unrealistic expectations that he had set up for her.
And yet, he wanted to take their relationship to the next level. He had been musing over getting Jill a promise ring or an engagement ring, he hadn’t decided which yet, since he had convinced himself that she would say no. Convinced himself that she could do so much better than him. But a part of him still wanted to ask, given his nerves.
That meant getting Lissa’s blessing. And advice, too, on the subject at hand since he knew Lissa would talk some sense into him. He had decided not to talk to Rose about it. Or even Emily, when she was around, since it had taken him this month and a half to even work up the courage to ask for advice as he headed to Lissa’s new office and entering once he had permission before he cleared his throat and spoke five simple words.
“Do you have a moment?” It was all he could ask, small talk really wasn’t his forte, and he wouldn’t sit down unless she asked him too. He was in Guardian mentality, still, and sometimes old habits die hard.
“Do you really need to ask!” Lissa said as she looked up to see Eddie. She’d known he was on the floor but had managed to ignore him coming towards her. Her expression was inviting and excited.
“What are you doing up here?” She added with a hint of worry. Lissa held Eddie in high regard and worried about him as it was.
“I don’t have to ask, but I still feel obligated to,” he admitted to her, since he preferred to be quiet when in Guardian mode and he didn’t like to attract any attention, especially given the nature of his visit.
And yet, they quickly got to the crux of his visit. He wanted to admit the truth, but fear had gripped the better of him, since he had done so many things wrong. He wanted to ask her for permission at the topic he was dealing with, but he figured he would err on the side of caution and ease into it.
“I was hoping that I could get your opinion on something,” he told her, his own nerves starting to weigh in when it came to publically addressing it, “something that has been my mind for quite some time.”
Lissa gave him a puzzled look, she could tell there was something on his mind but she didn’t want to push him to say it too quickly if he wasn’t comfortable yet.
“Of course, you know you can always ask my opinion on anything.” She told with a comforting smile.
Eddie hesitated. He was nervous about what he was going to say but then again, he knew he couldn’t back out of what was on his mind. He trusted Lissa though and had to hope that she wouldn’t laugh at him.
“Well, I was debating maybe taking my relationship with Jill to the next level,” he admitted to Lissa, wondering if she got the gist of what he was saying.
Next level, was all that Lissa heard and she wasn’t really sure what he meant by next level. She did a good job of not showing any emotion on her face other than understanding though.
“What exactly do you mean by the next level?” Lissa asked deciding it was better not to assume anything.
This was where Eddie clearly started to hesitate, even if he had already mentally prepared himself for a no.
“Oh, you know, the next level,” he said as he worried if he shouldn’t have brought this up. At least he wasn’t alluding to sex or something like that. “Like maybe getting her a promise ring or something like that.”
Lissa smiled, she could hear Rose in her head saying something about how at least you don't have to give him the sex talk. Lissa managed not to say that out loud.
"I'm sure she would love a promise ring. You two already live together, so something like that would be a really good gesture."
Eddie had thought that Saint Vlad’s offered a sex ed class at one point but he couldn’t remember it since him and Mason were goofing off. Those were the days and yet, so much had changed since then.
“I’m glad you like that. There’s a part of me that really wants to propose, but…” he trailed off, sure that Lissa could figure out all his doubts and insecurities. And that was mainly the big fear that he’d let Jill down.
"I think marriage is a little soon, maybe let her finish college first, but I think a show of real commitment would be a really good idea," Lissa said, she honestly thought Jill was too young to get engaged. But then again, Lissa always thought about how the future would work for someone. She just hoped that it didn't come of negatively.
Of course it didn’t come off negatively. Especially since Eddie had expected it. “True and maybe she’ll find someone better than me in the process,” he joked, but he was more than willing to let his insecurities show. “You’ll have to help me pick out a ring though.”
“Eddie,” Lissa said very sternly. “Jill is not going to find someone who is better for her, you are perfect for her.” She said fully meaning every single word of it. “I would love to help you pick out a ring, we can go now if you’d like.”
The two of them stood up and headed out to go look at rings.
