The Candor girl had taken his fancy and he couldn’t for the life of him work out why. He’d spent the class admittedly probably a little chaotic overall but he’d gotten his point across. He thought they had a pretty solid idea of the best music out there and why everything was trash nowadays. He’d done better than Cappie who...well, the kid had style, he’d give him that. Only a few years younger and he still thought of the guy as a kid...weird. He’d almost entirely made eyes at Claire, and okay, yes also Pretty Kitty all the way through, but it was Claire he’d asked to stay. He had been amused at how willing she was to trust, and Katherine wouldn’t begrudge him a little curiosity. He leaned idly against the wall as everyone filed out and met her gaze as she was the only one left in the room. “So...what’d you think? Be honest,” he said laughing at his own joke. He was hilarious. Obviously. Claire spent a good amount of time weighing the pros and cons of what she was doing. She had been planning on going to some of the courses but she the one she found herself sitting in wasn't one she thought she'd be in. Regardless, she'd agreed to stay, and if anything Claire kept her word. Besides, there was something interesting about this guy. Claire wanted to know more. She needed to know more. That's how she found herself waiting for the rest of the 'students' to exit. She laughed at his question, before answering though she held up an apple and tossed it to him. "You earned your apple." She told him feeling as though that was an answer in itself. "I'm Claire," she offered her name figuring that was another good step in the direction of trust. “Kai,sign up” he said simply, he’d seen her name sign-up sheet. Claire Callahan from Candor. He took the apple, entirely entertained by the idea. He was seriously an amazing teacher. He didn’t know what it was about the woman. There was something he couldn’t quite put his finger on, tied to the dreams. Tied to...something… “So I was good. Nice to know. It all makes it worth it, watching people learn, you know?” Claire leaned back against a desk and watched him carefully. She'd gotten his name from when she showed up at the class, but it was different hearing him introduce himself somehow. "Good enough for the apple," she countered with a playful smile. "I enjoyed it." She added. "So, you like to watch people learn hmmm?" Claire asked wanting to hear more about it. “Erudite, of course, I do. It’s fascinating watching you. We all learn, every Faction, even the stiffs, we learn. What is life without change right. You learned just by coming here, and I don’t mean the class. You learned by taking the chance, breaking every rule that tells us faction before blood, factions don’t cross paths in so far as possible and they definitely, definitely don’t fraternize” He wanted to know what it was that had lead this woman here What made her tick and why she’d taken this chance. Claire listened to him but didn't show too much reaction other than a raised eyebrow and a start of a smile on her lips. "I want to know what you learned," Claire said after he told her all about watching people learn and what it could mean to him. “I've been...There's something different lately. This weird half-remembered song in my mind. Over and…” he paused, holding her gaze. “I learned that you, Candor, are something special. And I don't know why. But you came here, hardly knowing why.” He straightened his posture a little. “What did you learn?” "What do you mean different? What kind of different?" She asked before she could stop herself. Curiosity driving her. Claire couldn't help looking down with a small blush at his comment about he learned about her slowly she looked back up catching his eyes again before answering his question. "That I guessed right," she said with a small smile. "You do look better in person." She stated with a small laugh. "And, that and you are a very interesting person." “Just different, now”” he said simply, not sure he really wanted to go into it. It was a complicated mess of a thing. “It doesn’t matter. This does though...learning about you. You really are your own brand of interesting and conveniently, we both look good.” The blush was adorable, the laugh even more so. “Tell me, what embarrassed you? What made you blush like that?” "If you get to learn about me, I get to learn about you," Claire countered easily. She was just as interested in learning about him as he appeared to be in her. "So, different how?" She asked again softer that time as if trying to make the words more inviting. Claire laughed again softly at his question. "Blushing doesn't always mean someone is embarrassed. I was flattered, not embarrassed." “Just different, like something I can’t put my finger on, keep hearing this one song...doesn’t matter though, not rinow.” Oh, she was good. And being honest which was of course unsurprising. But he supposed she was right, it didn’t have to mean embarrassed. “Flattered is good, I think. I flatter you.” he could tell what she was doing. He could hear that softness in her tone. And stepped closer. “Claire, why did you stay? Why did you really stay?” Claire was going to insist that it did matter but she also felt if she gave in a little bit he'd open up more later. Why she wanted him to open up was a toss up between being curious and something else she couldn't figure out. Her breath caught as he stepped closer. "I told you I would," which was true but not everything. "And maybe I was curious and interested in getting to know you better, that such a surprise?" Claire knew this was dangerous, but she still was right where she was. “You did. And Candor and all, but you could have said no. You could have told me no.” He kept her gaze. “You’re curious, it’s good to be curious. It’s healthy. You’re striving for more knowledge, and no one should ever stop doing that.” He told her. “But fine, you want to get to know me...ask me anything? Anything you want.” "I didn't want to say no," she replied listening to his other words. She watched his expression, listened to the tone of his voice which told her just as much as actual words did. "Why did you ask me to stay? And not just because you are curious," she said with a small smirk before biting her lower lip. “Good. Because I asked you to stay so I could kiss you” he said with a decidedly wicked grin. “Hey look, honesty. Maybe I missed a trick going Erudite” he suggested, stepping closer still. “This is the part where you swoon, ” he told her, pressing a soft kiss against her lips.” "Mmmm," Claire said at his reasons for asking her to stay. She didn't make any movements to get away. Instead, she laughed lightly when he told her it was the point where she should swoon. One arm moved to rest on his shoulder as he gave her a soft kiss. She pulled back only a little bit. "One more question," Claire said leaning forward kissing him softly before pulling back. "What are the odds I can trust you, and you'll trust me?" He shrugged. “Eh, slim. But where’s the fun if you’re completely sure” he told her as she kissed him back. Interesting turn of events. Her hand on his shoulder told him what he needed to know. She was more than happy to be kissed. He wouldn’t do much more than that. Not here. “Take a chance with me, hm?” His answer was honest. There was a risk to i, and she was pretty sure she'd lost her mind. Her eyes studied his for a moment before she lifted her other arm to rest on his shoulder. “Well, you are fun,” she told him in answer not moving forward anymore. Oh yeah, this was against the rules of factions. Somehow she didn't care. Rules were made to be broken. “I am absolutely fun. I’m more fun than you’ve ever had. So let's take a lesson from Dauntless…” He pulled her into an embrace, letting the kiss deepen. She’d swoon soon enough. There was something she was going to say when he said something about more fun but all that went out of her mind as her arms tightened around him as she gave into the emotional rush of it. Eventually, she heard something that sounded like a door that caused her to pull back just a little bit. "You still have some work to do to be the most fun." She teased. Given how honest she was by nature it was true but still playful. He rolled his eyes as a door squeaked. Even he knew better than to get caught. “I’ll have to step up my game,.” he said, one last kiss before he stepped back. “Thank you for staying. I’m glad I could give you more of an insight into Erudit,” he said, biting the apple she’d brought as steps came closer. Nothing they could see, nothing they could prove. And he really had given her insight. Claire was reluctant to let go of him, which in itself was strange for her. "I guess you will," she whispered after the short last kiss. "Well, I know you still have a lot to learn about Candor as well, it was my pleasure to stick around a little bit longer." Claire offered. Her arms no longer wrapped around him she did let one drift to the hem of his pants. "I'm sure there is a lot more you could learn." She added stepping close to him before turning to head towards the door. Getting caught wasn't an option. “Good to know” he called after her, letting out a breath as he sat back against the desk. Interesting day. Interesting woman. And there was something about her, almost as familiar as that song. He’d figure it out. |
