Things sure were different in Atlantis, for the better, in some ways. There were still things that Lydia felt were strange or awkward but none of that mattered today because Stiles was getting older and Lydia had a whole concept planned out. She’d talked to Alicia Spinnet a few days before because it was her birthday too and they’d all meet up around 8pm at Lightning for a grand party for the people who shared the 8th as a birthday. But, Lydia had plans before that. She spoke quickly to Stiles over the network and smiled as she teased him about shoes. Rolling her eyes, she finished putting the touches on the gazebo in the park. She’d managed to talk her way into renting the place for the afternoon. There was a table with all his favorite foods, a cooler with favorite drinks and hidden under the floor panel near the steps up into the gazebo was a surprise she couldn’t wait to attack him. Grinning she skipped towards his door knocking as she tried to keep herself from bouncing with excitement. With a quick kiss on his cheek after he opened the door she quickly tied a bandana around his eyes. “Don’t even think about trying to peak!” She exclaimed as she took his hand carefully lead him to a rikshaw just outside. Helping him up she ignored anything he had to may have said and eventually put a hand over his mouth. When they got to the park she didn't have to lead him far before they got to the steps of the gazebo. She let go of him only for a moment to pull out a can of silly string from her purse. "Okay, you can look now," she told him and as he removed his bandana she very quickly sprayed silly string at him. Turning eighteen was supposed to be a bigger deal, right? It didn’t really feel like something that should be made a big fuss over. The only thing that felt wrong or weird was the fact that his dad wasn’t around to see him become eighteen. He probably wouldn’t have even bothered with today if Lydia and Scott weren’t around. But, they were, and apparently Lydia was dragging him out. Where? He had no idea. And after he spoke to her, he finally got up and got ready to go. Stiles just finished tying his shoes when he heard the knock. When he answered he was greeted with a quick kiss and then he was blindfolded. “I don’t think I could even if I wanted to,” he said as he put his free hand out in front of him, still afraid of running straight into a wall or something even though he trusted Lydia not to do something like that. “You know…this would be much easier if you would just let me see what was going on,” he said when she continued to be his eyes. He would have said more, but that’s when she put a hand over his mouth. Anything he could say now would be muffled by her hand, so he just stayed quiet, which wasn’t easy! He tried to peek at least once, but it was no use. Lydia had tied the bandana pretty well around his head. Once again Lydia was helping him and he couldn’t help but to wonder where exactly they had ended up. “This isn’t the part where I find out that you took me to the edge of a cliff and are about to push me off of it, is it?” he joked. When Lydia said that he could finally look, he quickly pulled the bandana off and saw what Lydia had set up. Before he could even say anything, he was getting sprayed with silly string. “Give me that!” He quickly grabbed the can out of Lydia’s hand and then started to spray her with the silly string. “Much better,” he said, laughing and smiling. Once the can was empty, he handed it back to her and then went back to being impressed with everything that Lydia had done. “You did all of this by yourself?” he asked as he walked up the few steps that led into the gazebo. The plan had been to open up the floor board and pull out more string but he’d made that pretty hard and laughing at his first expression and grabbing the can from her distracted her. Giggly she tried to pretend to be horrified as he kept spraying the can at her. When he stopped she started to pull string from her hair and clothing. "You know, this color looks better on you." She muttered to herself. Shrugging she didn't actually bother to tell him if she did it all herself or not. "You only turn 18 once," was her answer to his question. "I'll have you know we do have plans later this evening so don't think this is it." Stiles was smiling at his handiwork. “Hmm, I don’t know. I think it’s looking pretty good on you.” And if he had more to silly string, he’d probably spray her down with some more. “At least we’re twins,” he said as he started to pull some pieces from off his shoulder and out of his hair. She might not have right out said it, but Stiles knew by that answer and the look on her face that this was all Lydia and nobody else. “What if I refuse to get older? I could turn eighteen over and over again,” he jokingly said. “Oh yeah? What else is happening tonight?” He wasn’t sure if Lydia would tell him, but he had to ask. Lydia paused to think about his actual question, ignoring the comment about her looking pretty good. There was a small blush on her cheeks though. “Well, I was going to say it’d be stupid to stop at 18, but Atlantis is different from home….” She trailed off. “I don’t know, I like the idea of seeing you grow up and old.” She didn’t know what she meant by it but it came out. “First, I have food for you, the rest, you’ll have to wait to find out!” She said with a smile as she grabbed his hand and dragged him up to the table with all his favorite foods. It was Lydia. She could be wearing a paper bag and Stiles would think she looked good. “It is different, but we seem to be adapting to this place pretty well.” At least that’s what he thought unless there was something that Lydia wasn’t telling him. “You just want to see me yell at kids to get off of my damn grass.” Okay, food he was happy to have, but he still wanted to know what else was going to happen. “Not even a little hint?” He asked as he let Lydia grab a hold of his hand and pull him over to the table of food. There were so many yummy things, but he started with a handful of curly fries. “Thank you for this.” It might not seem like much to most, but this meant a lot to him. “Well, you would make a very good grumpy old man one day,” she told him with a shrug as she thought about it. She didn’t let herself think too much on the statement and instead focused on the food. “Where would the fun be in telling you what’s planned later? I am kind of surprised no one told you but I’ll take that as somehow people here can keep their mouths shut sometimes!” Lydia said with a wicked grin that turned simply kind. To Lydia, it was the least she could do. “Well, everyone deserves something on their birthday.” “The fun would be in the telling me.” Now Stiles was wondering how many people knew about this thing that was supposed to happen later. Because nobody mentioned anything to him. Then again he had only spoken to a few people so far today. “Well, I definitely appreciate this something.” “And ruin the surprise?” Lydia said horrified. “Besides, do you have any idea how much work it takes to keep things quiet here? I swear it’s almost as bad as High school, but not exactly, I mean we aren’t all running into everyone in the halls or anything.” She said smiling. “So, anything special you want and didn’t get today?” “I’m not getting anything out of you, am I?” Stiles sighed dramatically. He knew that wouldn’t work either, but it was worth a shot. “Is it as bad as High school?” He really hadn’t noticed. “See, it’s not like High School,” he pointed out, hoping that might be the thing that would make Lydia at least give him a tiny hint about what is going on later. “Nope. There isn’t really anything that I wanted.” He slipped his arm around Lydia and pulled her close. “Because I have what I want right here.” “Nope, not a single word about tonight,” she told him trying to suppress a big smile. “Okay, it has its moments of gossip like high school,” she conceded. As his arms wrapped around her, she moved her arms to rest on each of his shoulders hands clasping behind his neck. “Oh, is that so? Nothing else at all?” She teased leaning forward but pausing. “Because I could probably think of a thing or two you might enjoy.” Stiles knew there was no reason to try to poke and prod Lydia about what was coming next. She was good at keeping surprises to herself. So, as much as he’d hate to, he decided to stop. “Okay.” That was him moving on. “What kind of gossip have you been hearing or seeing because I haven’t seen nor heard of anything.” Not that he was actively looking for people gossiping. “Nothing else,” he told her, “but, you obviously have some ideas… Is it a show and tell kind of thing or can you tell me?” “Just about who is getting together quickly and all those kinds of stuff. I did hear about the guy Kai Parker? He seems to like finding trouble, there are always rumors about the new professors that show up. Did you know Charles Xavier was here at one point? Before either of us got here though…” She let the words trail on. “Oh, I think it could be a little bit of both,” she challenged leaning forward to give him a soft kiss. “That’s pretty obvious. All you have to do is follow him around on the network.” It seemed like that guy always poked and prodded at people’s buttons. It’s probably why Stiles has said nothing to the guy. “What? No, I did not know that or I would have been following you to school so I could see him for myself..or not since that happened before we got here. Damn.” Lydia could kiss him a thousand more times and he would never get tired of it. “You’re being a tease.” “He might come back, you never know,” she whispered although if she were being honest she stopped thinking about anything she had said. She was having too much fun teasing him and just enjoying his company. “Hmmm… sometimes…” She told him. “We could always go somewhere else before the thing tonight.” “True,” he said. People have come and gone, right? He just hadn’t seen it yet, but he has been snooping around at older messages on the message board. “Hmmm, always,” he told her with a smile. “We could and we should because I know you have some ideas up there in that cute little head of yours.” And he wanted to know what it was. All of it. He really did wish she’d just tell him, but it was Lydia. She was good at keeping things to herself. A grin crossed her features as she pulled back taking his hand in hers. "Come on. I have a few ideas before we go to what we are going to tonight!" She said before tugging his hand and pulling back towards the housing buildings. She figured they could have fun before the events tonight really started. "Don't worry, everything here will be safe." It was like Lydia had read his mind. “Okay.” If she wasn’t too worried about everything then he wouldn’t worry about any of it either. “Lead the way,” he told her as he held onto her hand a little tighter. |
