Sometimes there were days that Emily wondered if she made the right decision those years ago when she joined Amity and left her friends and family. At the time, it felt like she had to get out of there. The other girls had felt the same way, and they'd left too. Her family she'd miss no matter where she was since they were both gone years ago. She'd made plenty of new friends and family in her faction, but it was during these days of gathering everyone together for events that made her wonder if she could have transferred together with one of the others or even stayed to face A in Dauntless. Since the transfer, she'd barely spoken to those she'd left behind. Faction over blood, right? Emily believed that, but sometimes it was hard to live out in day to day life. Putting on her best friendly smile, though, Emily poured sugary coffee drinks to the visitors of all factions. Amity was hosting something called Frog Leap Day, and she'd volunteered herself on behalf of Coffee Me Better to set up a booth to serve coffee and treats to the participants and visitors. She greeted everyone with a smile when they walked up and told them to have a good day when they left. Emily really did enjoy being a part of her faction most of the time even if her mind still wandered and asked so many “what ifs.” Between customers, Emily kept an eye out for people she knew from other factions. Aria and a few others. There was a blonde from Dauntless she sometimes scanned the crowd for but scolded herself each and every time she did. There had been some mild flirtations before she'd left and even some since. Emily hadn't exactly discouraged them but she knew it couldn't go any further than that. There was no way she could get involved with someone from another faction, let alone someone from her old faction. Shaking those thoughts from her mind, Emily smiled brightly when another customer walked up for a drink. It was a person from Abnegation who was nearly as friendly as she was. They thanked her for the drink, and Emily shouted a heartfelt “Happy Frog Leap Day!” to them as they walked away. Maybe they should come up with a new name for this next time. |
