DAUNTLESS TWILIGHT DAY
PG
COMPLETE |
The loose fitting gray outfit hung around Lissa, with sensible shoes and her blond hair pulled back up into a bun she made her way towards the Twilight Event hosted by Dauntless. Typically she didn't do a lot outside of what was expected of her, but sometimes Lissa felt a pull to the events organized by the other Factions. Ever since she and Rose went different directions, Lissa had always felt a strange loss in her life. She never talked about it, never brought it up, never let anyone know that she thought about it. Tonight she had a feeling her eyes would show that hole in her life. Standing out of the way near the wall she wished it was okay to lean back on the cold wall, but instead, she stood up straight looking ahead as she watched others take part in what had been set up. It was at that moment that she felt eyes on her. It wasn't the first time, but she tended not to look, this time her curiosity got the better of her as she glanced towards the person looking at her. Rose stood there, staring at Lissa Dragomir from across the room. She couldn't help it and she thought, not for the first time, that someone so beautiful was wasted in a faction where you couldn't even look at yourself in the mirror. If there was anyone who was a poster child for selflessness, though, it was Lissa. Rose had known for ages that come their choosing ceremony, they would be separated. As someone who was generally only selfless when it came to certain people, Rose would have been miserable in Lissa’s new faction. Even in Candor, she'd always felt like she didn't quite fit. Dauntless was her home now and she repeated the old mantra silently to herself as she looked at the girl who had once been closer than a sister. Faction before blood. Her old life didn't matter. She was Dauntless now. Even all these years later, married to Dimitri and raising their son who she loved more than anything, those words couldn't cure the ache within her when she thought about the friendship her choice had cost her. Deciding to say ‘fuck the rules,’ Rose made her way across the room to where her old friend stood. This was a Dauntless event, anyway, so she could claim she was just trying to be a good hostess or something if anyone said anything. Rose was a good liar; that was one of the reasons Candor hadn't been the right place for her. “Hey,” she offered, trying to hide her inner conflict with a polite smile. “You don't look like you're having much fun.” She was a little surprised to see Rose approach her, although Rose had never been one for the rules and this event did allow the factions to interact even if it was still mildly frowned upon in such settings. Lissa being there was a surprise, most of her faction would have avoided such an event, but Lissa thought it was important to be there to show support for the other factions. At least that's what she said to everyone. If it were before they'd gone different directions she'd have given Rose a hug, but that was a different life, and they both had new ones that were more important. "You know me, and these aren't usually my kind of events, but it is really gracious of Dauntless to host the event," she said with a soft smile. "It's good to see you, Rose, how is your son?" “You know what they say, Liss,” Rose teased, falling back on the old nickname as easily as if it had just been yesterday. “When in Dauntless...” She flashed a grin. “You should at least have a drink. I promise not to try and talk you into a tattoo.” Rose’s body, of course, was nearly covered in marking and piercings, some strategically covering scars she'd gotten in one fight or another. Most of them carried some meaning, but the bright red streaks in her dark hair were all about looking cool. The mention of Ivan made her grin in a way that almost transformed her face, taking away some of the edgier look she'd acquired here. “He's awesome, of course,” she answered. “Growing like a weed but I swear he gets cuter every day.” Lissa smiled again shaking her head. "I don't think I should," she told Rose knowing how it would look should she have a drink here, especially here. "Besides, I think the one tattoo is enough." She teased knowing full well that Rose knew she wouldn't have one. Cute and Dauntless wasn't something she normally put together, but she could understand where that could come from and be. "That's wonderful! And you and Dimitri are good?" Just because Lissa wasn't in Rose's life anymore didn't mean that she didn't keep tabs on it. Lissa's life was relatively quiet. She worked, she did everything in her power to help and spent time with the sister she didn't know she'd had. Still smiling, Rose nodded. “Yeah, we’re good,” she confirmed. Dimitri was another subject that always made her smile. They hadn’t had an easy road, by any means. There was a lot of heartbreak in there before they’d finally found each other again and it had taken a near death experience on Rose’s part to finally make it happen, but now? Yeah, things were pretty awesome. “What about you?” she asked, leaning casually against the wall as though it was no big deal - which it wasn’t for her. “How is [...] everything?” Lissa smiled seeing that Rose was so happy, she was slightly jealous but she would never admit it to anyone, especially Rose. She would never want Rose to worry about her or put her in a situation to know how Lissa felt at this time. “Things are good, quiet, busy with work.” Lissa said, she was involved with the council as well as in a similar role to social services. Lissa did enjoy her work and she felt as though it was doing something good. Lissa’s personal life however was pretty much nothing. “All work and no play?” Rose teased. “That doesn’t sound like much fun.” She knew the Abnegation lived boring life, but it saddened her to think that was Lissa’s life now. All duty and service without any fun. She wanted more for her, even if they weren’t exactly friends anymore. Lissa bit her tongue from saying anything because it'd be selfish for her to do so. “I'm happy,” she said softly. “It was good to see you,” she said again awkwardly. “It was good to see you, too,” Rose said, careful to keep the emotions off her face. Even after all this time, she wished things could be different. She loved being Dauntless, she knew there was no better place for her, but there was an ache in her every time she thought how much things had changed between her and Lissa. She wished choosing the way she had hadn’t meant the end to her friendship. |
