Jelly Bean convention
G
Complete |
Ever since Cleo left, Bella had found herself bothering Enzo more and more. Sometimes it was just sitting around while she did her homework and he did music stuff, sometimes it was going to silly things, like today. She sent Enzo a text that morning telling him about the Jelly Bean event going on and basically insisted that he come, not that he wasn’t interested anyways. “You know, a Lego and jelly bean convention would be even more fun,” Bella said as they walked past a booth that read ‘ALL FLAVORS OF STRAWBERRY.’ “Do you think they have a jelly bean pit? Like a ball pit?” She asked as she turned to look at him with her eyes wide. Enzo didn’t mind Bella bugging him more and more. He had grown quite fond of the teenager. Other than having Bonnie by his side, Bella was the only other person in Atlantis that he had connected with. And when she sent the text about the Jelly Bean thing, he automatically said no. There was no way he was going to some event that had to do with Jelly Beans. Of course, since it was Bella, she ended up changing his mind and he finally agreed to go with her. And if he were being truthful with himself, he was kind of interested to see what went on at an event dedicated to a little candy bean. “Because you would be able to play with plastic bricks while having a snack?” he asked as he glanced over at Bella. “I hope not. I have a feeling if they did, I would have to save you from it,” he joked. “Come on!” She said nudging him with her elbow. “You could build really odd things that hid the jelly beans, and it could be a sort of solve the puzzle thing." Scrunching up her nose she shrugged as she thought about legos and jelly beans for a second. "Come on, it could be tasty fun, and don't start in on me about germs!" She warned with a smile. "This is Atlantis! You'd think they'd thought about it, besides have you ever played in a ball pit? If the answer is no, we're changing that." “Are you a dog now? Don’t they have toys like that for them? Why would you want to do that to yourself?” It was pretty obvious that he was confused by the way Bella was thinking, but then he saw the look on her face, which probably meant she was rethinking what she had said. “Why would I start in about that? It’s not like I have to worry about them…you on the other hand…” If he were human, and had to worry about things like that he would find it pretty disgusting. “No, I haven’t.” Now he was scared. “You’re not really going to make me go into one if they actually have one, are you?” “What?” She asked completely puzzled by his question about her being a dog and toys, it took her a moment to follow what he was saying. “Okay, that came out wrong.” She admitted laughing but didn’t continue in on it. “Not all of us are safe from germs,” she countered with a mock glare at him. “You’ve never played in a ball pit?!” She stated more than asked. “Oh yeah, like I said it is Atlantis maybe they found a way around the germ stuff.” “Did it?” He asked as he flashed her a small smile. “You’re the one that wants to jump into a pit of jelly beans after others have been swimming around in it,” he pointed out. “You seem surprised by this,” he said as he glanced over at her. “Germ free jelly bean pit?” It was Atlantis. Anything was possible in this place. Scrunching up her nose she reached out and smacked his arm lightly. "Hey, it is Atlantis!" She said with her hands in the air as if that made it more clear. "Besides, even if there isn't a jelly bean pit, you still need to experience a ball pit. It's a rite of passage." “What?” he asked with a laugh after she playfully smacked at his arm. “It reminds us of that all the time,” he said as he started to remember all of the crazy shit this place had put him through so far. “Okay, why is this ball pit thing a rite of passage?” It wasn’t like ball pits were a thing when he was a kid and it wasn’t like he actually got to be a kid since he grew up in a workhouse. Bella thought about his question and she really didn’t have a good reason. “I don’t know, I grew up traveling and moving around a lot and ball pits were just one of those things that when my Da’ came across them he just tossed me into them…” She said as a small frown crossed her expression, she quickly hid it. “It’s just one of those stupid silly things everyone has to try at least once!” Enzo listened to Bella’s reasoning behind the whole ball pit thing. It wasn’t that it was a rite of passage, but something sentimental to her. “It sounds like you had some fun.” He wouldn’t say anything else since he had caught that slight flash of sadness. It was obviously a touchy subject. “I see a ball pit in my future.” “I wonder if they’ve got one of those pits with foam in it that gymnasts use to practice on too… but I wouldn’t think that with jelly beans would be all that comfortable.” Bella said as if it was a normal segway. She grinned though and nodded. “Yup, I think there is a ball pit in your future.” Enzo just shrugged as Bella thought out loud. Deep down he was hoping not. He really did not want to deal with any kind of pit. Not today anyway. He snatched a bag of sour jelly beans off a table they had walked past and handed it to Bella. “Here.” Maybe if he got her eating some of the jelly beans, she might change her focus on to something that didn’t involve him and ball pits. Taking the bag she glanced up with a smile. “Thanks!” She told him as they kept walking, she opened it taking a small bite of one. “Oh wow,” her face started to pucker up from the sour lime flavor. Shaking her head she changed the subject. “How’s the music going?” “Is it sour?” Enzo asked even though he didn’t need a verbal answer. The look on Bella’s face was answer enough. “It’s going,” he replied with a small shrug of his shoulders. “I’m sure it could be doing better, but I’ve sort of hit a block.” Bella just rolled her eyes at him, she knew that he already knew they were. “A block? What sort of block? I might be able to help,” she offered. Bella did spend some time singing still and writing lyrics but not as much here as she did back home. Enzo just flashed her a smile when she rolled her eyes at him. “You know, the kind that decides to show up when you’re in the middle of a song. It’s like, the idea of where to go to next is right there, but it just won’t make itself known.” He wasn’t too worried about it. He knew it would come to him sooner or later, but if Bella wanted to help out, he’d more than happy take any kind of help that she wanted to give. Nodding, Bella could completely understand where he was coming from. Images of her own moments like that back home popped into her mind. “Song block,” Bella said. “So, middle verse? Or is it more on the music side?” She asked tilting her head thinking through it. “Uh huh,” he said with a slight nod of his head. “I pretty much have the music side down. It’s the verse that’s getting to me.” “Come on, let's get real food and go over it,” she offered with a smile nodding towards an exit. “Sounds like a good plan to me,” he told her as he started to lead the way to the exit and out of the building. |
