16 FEB - ALICIA & PETER

"What the bloody hell is wrong with these people?!" Alicia spat as she caught sight of the black bear cub trapped in an elaborate trap. It was stuck in some sort of hole that had stakes, wire and some kind of taser that looked to be delivering a charge, the cub was bleeding and looked as though it had given up fighting for the moment, it's eyes sad as it looked up terrified and desperate at the same time. Alicia pulled out her wand and quickly sent a healing charm to the little cub in hopes of relieving some of the pain before she looked to the side of the hole to where a couple of footholds on some roots where. "I'm going down there." She said, and before anyone could stop her, she was starting to climb down. “Alicia, wait,” Peter called after his teammate, just as concerned for the cub as he started to follow her, but he knew there could be more traps and rushing in wasn't going to help anyone. Alicia was already further down by the time she heard Peter’s voice, looking up she lost her footing and slipped down cutting her leg on the wire. “Shit.” Alicia cursed under her breath. If Peter had been a swearing man, he would have done so, then. Instead, he picked up his pace to catch up to Alicia. “Be careful,” he called down to her as he began to make his way down much more slowly. “It’s fine.” She said looking away from the blood and towards the bear. “Who the bloody hell would… fucking bastards.” She muttered as she looked at the wire. “It looks like if I’m careful, I can snap it around here,” she said pointing to some weak spots. “To start unraveling it.” Peter caught up to her quickly, studying the trap, himself. “Are we sure that won’t trigger something else?” he wondered. This trap looked really elaborate, and he wasn’t sure how easy it was going to be to disarm it without hurting the bear even more. “Right here it doesn’t look connected to any kind of triggers,” Alicia said following the path. “I mean it could trigger anything with magic, but we have to start somewhere, and that is the weakest point, we still have the taser that needs to be shut off, and make sure the stakes don’t do more damage.” Peter considered the options. It was a risk, but it was a necessary one. She was right that this was the weakest point. “You’re right. This is our best option,” he agreed. “What do you need me to do?” "As I cut it here," Alicia pointed, "Can you try getting it wrapped up, be careful, though, this stuff is horrid. If we get enough off, I think we can get access to the taser which once that's off we'll be able to get this poor little guy out." Peter nodded. “Yes,” he said, posing his hands ready to do as she asked. He doubted he’d be able to do this without getting a few cuts, himself, but it would be worth it to free the animal. They worked on the barbwire for a while until there was enough of it lose for Alicia to squeeze between a stake and to where it looked like the power source for the taser was. “Well isn’t that chipper,” Alicia grumbled as she looked back up at Peter. “Think you could get the wire to the side and hold the bear still for a bit?” “Yes,” Peter answered confidently. He got a grip on the wire, trying to minimize the damage to his own hands as he spoke soothingly to the animal as she shifted the wire and reached to hold it still, hoping it understood that they were here to help. Alicia looked over at Peter thoughtfully for a moment. “I’m going to cast a small spell around your hands incase he gets upset and tries to bite you; it should minimize any potential damage.” She said and without waiting cast it before getting towards the taser. It took Alicia a good 10 minutes as she fiddled with getting to the taser, it seemed every single time she got close to figure it out it would be magical snap back to being exactly how it was when she started. Eventually, she just took her wand and blew it up which sent one electric shock and stopped with a horrible sound of a dying machine. Peter nodded, appreciative of Alicia’s magic as they worked for several minutes before they were able to get the trap stopped. Blowing it up with them that close was risky, but Peter didn’t have time to tell her to be careful before she acted. “Thanks for not blowing up my hands while you were at it,” he muttered, but he flashed her a grin as he realized it had worked. Smirking she glanced over at Peter nodding towards the stakes. "Any brilliant thoughts on how to get those pieces of rubbish out of the way?" Alicia had a few, but she also wasn't sure her ideas were the well, safest. “I don’t suppose you can just vanish them?” he asked, knowing that would be too easy, but he could hope it was possible. He’d done a little reading on the different kinds of magic, enough to read that vanishing was a type of spell they could do, but he didn’t know if it would work in this case. Tilting her head, Alicia gave a curious expression as she thought about it. “Well, I can try with one of them and see if it works, if not I might be able to transfigure it into stuffed evil shit.” She said as she looked from Peter to the stakes. “Here goes nothing,” she muttered as she focused on a vanishing charm. It backfired sending a red spark up. “Well, guess not…” She muttered looking a bit worried. “Take two?” Alicia said as she focused on turning the stakes to stuffed stakes. “‘Stuffed evil shit,'” he quoted back to her, raising his brow slightly. “I hope you don’t mean literally or that could get a bit messy,” he teased. It was disappointing, although not entirely unexpected when her first attempt didn’t work, and he sent up a silent prayer as she appeared to concentrate on the stakes again. This place wasn’t out of Aslan’s reach. Of that, he was certain. It wasn’t the time to laugh, but Alicia couldn’t help the small giggle as she looked up at Peter. “I promise not to send anything that smells too bad in your direction,” she teased as she looked back down to focus on what she was doing. “Okay, you are stuffed stakes, couldn’t hurt anything.” She muttered to herself as she focused turning them very slow it clearly was taking her a lot of work, but eventually, she got a few of them. “Two more,” she whispered before focusing again. “Thanks, I appreciate that,” he said in a lighter tone as he smiled at her for a moment. There wasn’t really much he could do to help her with this bit, so he just nodded at her words and sat ready to help in any way he could as he prayed their good luck continued to hold. “Okay, try and see if you can get the little guy out now,” Alicia said noticing he had a better angle and she wasn’t sure she could handle the weight at that exact moment. Peter nodded, reaching for the cub and working gently to try and pull it free. It took some maneuvering, but after a bit, he managed it. There were cuts all over the poor thing, some of them quite deep and Peter suspected one of his legs might be broken, as well. “Can you fix these or will we need to grab a med kit?” he asked her as he gently held the cub, keeping it close for extra warmth. “Yeah, of course,” Alicia said quickly not wasting any time. “Who the fuck would do this to a little guy?” She cursed under her breath as she watched the cub heal slowly. “I don’t know, but I’d like to introduce them to Rhindon,” he muttered fiercely as he watched the cub slowly heal, thanks to Alicia’s magic. With the poor animal out of danger, he looked over at Alicia and smiled. “We don’t make a half bad team, Miss Spinnet,” he commented. “Who the bloody hell is Rhindon? And it’s Alicia already.” She half snapped half giggled as she looked up at him. It was clear she was in more pain than she had let on. “Let’s get that guy out of here.” She added as she forced herself to stand upright again. Peter shot her a surprised look when she seemed a little snappish. He was used to seeing her more easy going and ready to joke around. “Rhindon is my sword,” he explained, reaching out his free hand to help her up automatically. She might resent the idea that she needed any help, but Peter was too chivalrous not to offer. Alicia didn’t take his hand until after they got the cub out. Her anger was based on the pain she’d managed to completely ignore until the situation was resolved, the cub was free, and things had just built up for her. “Have you ever thought of a nickname? For your sword I mean. A bit of a long name, it could be Capt. Rhino!” She said with a smirk and a tilt of her head once they were safely up. Peter just shook his head. “No, I can’t say I have, And Rhindon isn’t that long, you know.” The idea of giving it a nickname was just... ridiculous, but he’d learned to tell when Alicia was teasing. “Capt. Rhino has a good ring to it,” she teased again as they got the cub to safety and started to get out of the trap themselves. |
