Kara Danvers & Pansy Parkinson
03 March
Atlantis - outside somewhere
PG
Complete |
It was an unseasonably warm day. Pansy normally would've enjoyed the warm sunshine and even basked in it, but today she was working on restoring a mural outside, and it was less than comfortable. The glare of the sun off the stone wall made it difficult to see the outlines of the figures, and it didn't help that to get to the spot on the high wall she was working on, she had to levitate herself up to it. It was a precarious situation, one she was fully aware of. It wasn't easy balancing her wand - which was keeping her up - as well as her paint brush and palette. And now she was thirsty. Great. She looked around, searching for her water bottle. Where had she put it? Sun. Finally. Kara was so excited to get a little bit more sun and feel the warmth of it on her face. She had been out and about working on a puff piece for the paper. Kara would have rather been writing something a little bit more hard hitting, but she didn’t mind writing a puff piece here and there. As she walked past she heard a faint sound of something dropping. Turning she caught the bottle as she looked up catching sight of someone up above. “I think you dropped your water,” Kara called. “Stay put!” She said pushing off the ground and floating up next to the woman. The best part about Atlantis, everyone already knew who she was. No hiding. Upon seeing someone float up next to her, Pansy nearly dropped her palette. This wasn’t something that happened ordinarily, even in a magical world. There weren’t a lot of people who would just levitate themselves up and around, preferring to fly on brooms or use floating charms if they wanted to be off the ground. This blonde woman just floated up, and without using a wand. “Who are you?” Pansy asked, surprise making the question sharper than she’d intended. Crap, Kara thought as she looked at the confused expression. “I guess you don’t know who I am, well most people so far have known who I am or someone who is a lot like me but that gets really confusing because of the whole different mediums thing…” Kara trailed off. “Right. Sorry, I’m Kara, I didn’t mean to scare you! I just figured you might want your water bottle.” Kara added holding it out to her. Pansy stared at the blonde for a moment longer, just to drive home the fact that she had no idea what Kara was talking about, before carefully very carefully, adjusting her grip on her wand and paintbrush and palette to accept the bottle. But she evidently wasn't careful enough, because, with the adjustment, her wand slipped - and so did her spell. With a shriek, Pansy went plummeting down. Kara moved swiftly catching Pansy in time before she hit the ground. Kara didn’t catch the paints or canvas or anything else, just Pansy. Than again Kara was more focused on human life. “Are you okay?” Kara asked as she gently put her down on her feet ready to reach out quickly should Pansy lose her balance again. "I didn't mean to scare you!" She added with a guilty look. ...and there went her paint and water bottle, splattering everywhere. Pansy winced, but couldn’t bring herself to feel too badly about it. She’d been ready for a break anyway, and she needed to recover from nearly becoming a splatter on the pavement herself. “I don’t know many people who can just fly without a wand, that’s all,” she said after she’d managed to regain her composure. Kara watched her carefully trying to decide if she was really okay or not. “Oh! You are one of the people from Harry Potter!” She said excitedly. “I think your magic is so cool! I mean, I don’t really do magic, I can see where flying without a wand might look weird for you, but it’s just um… something that I can do! I guess I got so used to people knowing about me that I didn’t stop to think that someone might not know about my well, talents.” Kara glanced over at the paints. “Sorry I couldn’t catch those too.” She added. Aside from being shaken up, Pansy had managed to survive unscathed, thanks to the blonde’s rescue. “It’s all right,” she said, waving her hand dismissively. “It’s as good an excuse for a break as any. But kindly do not call me one of those people from Harry Potter. Some of us have been in the magical world long before he fell into it.” Kara’s expression didn’t do much to hide the shock of Pansy’s expression. “Sorry, I guess it must be old being linked to the person your world is named after here huh?” Kara didn’t know what else to say; she didn’t think it was such a bad thing! Than again she was from a place that was named after her… sort of. “I’ll keep that in mind, though,” Kara added with an awkward smile. “Is my world really named after Potter?” Pansy asked, appalled. How did this happen? This was the first she’d ever heard of it. And by the long, straggly beard of Merlin, could she never escape that damn half-blood? “How do you even know about him? He’s not even here!” “Um,” Kara started mildly shocked she didn’t know. “Yeah, well, in my world there are these books and Harry Potter is the main character, I mean person. This is so confusing.” Kara said as she laughed awkwardly. “I have never met him clearly, but I did talk to a Katie Bell from your world too and my friend Jill filled me in on a lot of stuff too, she’s not from your world, she’s from something called Vampire Academy though.” Books! The Intake Department had neglected to say anything about that! “And I suppose those books make him out to be the great hero?” Pansy huffed. “And anyone who disagrees is the villain. It’s really very unfair, you know.” She gave the blonde woman a lookover. “What sort of world are you from, that everyone knows you?” “Well, they are from his point of view, but I wouldn’t say that don’t show he has flaws either,” Kara said unsure really how to really react to that. “Well, people know my other personality more than they know me, me, but according to what I’ve found out so far, I’m from a TV version of Supergirl, but there are others versions of Supergirl and comics and all sorts of crazy stuff, so I guess you could say there are a lot of different versions of me… which sounds really weird doesn’t it?” “It sounds so weird, I haven’t a clue what you’re talking about,” said Pansy, who had never heard of Supergirl. She was barely understanding how this teevee thing worked. But this Supergirl had saved her from splattering on the sidewalk, so she supposed she couldn’t be all that bad. “Just don’t be like Potter and let the fame go to your head. He expected - and received - special treatment just because he was a ‘celebrity.'” Kara smiled with a slightly nervous laugh. “I guess you could look me up, but don’t go spreading my secret!” She added playfully in jest. A curious expression crossed her face at the topic of Potter. “He wasn’t all bad from your point of view was he?” She asked quickly adding. “I don’t mean that in you should love him and give him a ribbon or anything; just he did some good stuff.” “Well, occasionally he wasn’t a complete annoyance,” Pansy allowed. But that was all she was willing to admit for the time being. Sometimes, the unfair way the Slytherins had been treated in favour of the Gryffindors and Potter in particular still stung. “I suppose I should be grateful he’s not here to be self-righteous at me.” She picked up her fallen water bottle to take a sip; she was still thirsty. “Don’t you have anyone you’d rather not be here?” Kara decided not to say anything more about Harry Potter she did not realize how much people thought he was that annoying of a guy. “Well, sure, there are people out there who want to hurt people that I wouldn’t want around or a group of people whose mission is to try and kill a group of people. I wouldn’t want to see them.” Kara said. “Me neither,” Pansy agreed, because contrary to what some people believed, she wasn't evil or wanted to see people killed. She just wanted to live her life. And speaking of living her life… “Well, I’d better get some lunch. I've been up there all morning. Thanks for the rescue...Supergirl.” Kara gave an awkward smile and nodded. “Anytime, it’s what I’m around for!” She told her as she turned to head on with her journey trying to decide if that was a good run in or a bad. |
