training room - base

With the mission over and once again feeling that strange post-mission relief mixed with anxiety, Alicia Spinnet found herself back in a training room where she spent most of the time with a punching bag. After a good while, she pulled back and started practicing her defensive spells. Tossing off a hex created to slice something in half she watched as her target fall apart. "A little too strong," Alicia muttered before she heard footsteps behind her. Turning she kept her wand down as she caught sight of someone she hadn't seen before. "Hey," Alicia said with a small smile. "New around here?" Link had only been in Atlantis for a little bit now, and after trying to get settled and understand his new stomping grounds, he thought it should be necessary for him to get back into training for combat--it was why they were all here for the most part in the first place, right? That’s why he decided to make his way to one of the training rooms in order to prepare himself for the combat he’d be seeing in upcoming missions. The Hylian strolled through the entrance in his trademark green tunic draped over a small set of chainmail. He often trained with the chainmail on in order to get used to fighting with the weight (though to be fair, the magic of the Hero’s Tunic was that it was light weight anyway). On his back, the blonde haired young male wore the Hylian soldier’s shield, a sturdy, colorful thing that operated extremely well for what it was created, and beneath that hung the Master Sword. As he approached, he noted the young witch firing off spells and he raised a brow as he neared her, nodding his head at her question, “Yea…” He let his voice trail as he waved and looked around, then back towards her once more. “I’m Link. Thought I’d come and get some practice in as I get used to the new world.” Following his eyes, she smirked at her rather destroyed target. It didn't go exactly as planned but hey, at least the thing was taken care of so to speak. "Welcome to Atlantis! I'm Alicia, your friendly training room guide," she joked. "Kidding, but I actually am Alicia, that part wasn't a joke." Adding a small smile, she shrugged. "It takes a bit to get used to being here. Not exactly the most normal of worlds. I'm not sure what would be considered normal though. Where abouts are you from?" Link took note of the destroyed target and made a mental note of just how strong the woman in front of him’s power seemed to be. He’d seen powerful magic before, of course, but was nevertheless impressed. The blue eyes of the Hylian male lifted to her own when she introduced herself, and his smile grew, causing the pointed ears to shift as he listened. “It can, but then again even my own world required me to re-think my position in it a couple of times, so I’ll adapt,” Link’s voice trailed and he shrugged, “I’m from a land called Hyrule. A vast land, covered in fields and forests and mountains and deserts, not quite as sophisticated or advanced as this place though. We don’t have the talking pictures like I saw when I arrived, we have to talk through letters sent via hawk, eagle, or running mail man.” Link gestured towards her next, “And you? A world of magic it would seem,” Gesturing then towards the dismantled target. "Never heard of it," it seemed that there were a lot of places she had never heard of before. "Ah. The muggle tv, or are you talking about the hologram? The thing that popped up explain how you ended up in Atlantis?" Either one could be confusing. "Ironically, in my world, we communicate by owls most of the time." Glancing at her target, she winced slightly. "Yeah, I was actually trying to just slice it in half, not completely destroy it." Looking back at him she shrugged. "I'm from a set of books called Harry Potter. I'm a witch. Not an evil one, just an every day normal person who also happens to be a witch." “Well, to be fair, I never heard of Atlantis either,” Link shrugged with a smile and looked around the training room, trying to understand all of it; this place existed on such an advanced level of existence compared to his own. A brow raised and he looked towards Alicia with some confusion at her comment, but then nodded, “Right, the uh hologram… what’s a muggle tv? Anything like the hologram?” He let the question sit a moment before nodding, “Owls? Nice. Far more my speed I think.” His grin held firm and he shrugged, then frowned, “You’re from a set of books? A young lady mentioned to me that I may be from a ‘video game’. I don’t really get it, but is that similar? Is that common? And I knew a couple of witches, they weren’t called as such where I’m from, but some did refer to them that way. My friend Midna, and the Princess Zelda, both of them used a great deal of magic.” "No lost city of Atlantis myths and legends where you are from?" Alicia asked a bit startled. "It seems it's a really typical myth in a lot of places, but it does make sense it isn't everywhere." She concluded. "A bit different from the hologram, it's a little box that has shows and entertainment things to watch. I'm not big into it, but I know a lot of people here like it." It was clearly she didn't know too much about it. "But I'd call it just a TV, you might get a funny look or asked if you are from Harry Potter if you use the word muggle." "We're all from fiction? That's about all I can come up with. I don't know a lot about video games they aren't something that's popular where I'm from." A small shrug. "You don't use magic?" “Nothing called Atlantis where I’m from, no, there were a couple of lost cities in my time. The City in the Sky was forgotten to most of the Hylians back home, and then the Hidden Village, where the Royal Family’s protectors lived before being killed off be Zant’s forces over the ages. So I suppose I do have something similar, but no mention of an Atlantis,” Link offered, surprised just how different his world seemed. “I see, well I suppose that does sound like something people would definitely be interested in. Not really me though, I prefer seeing things in the real world. Regardless, I’ll make sure not to use muggle--is that a specific term where you’re from?” He then shook his head, the Hylian offering a slight shrug, “I don’t. There’s magic within me, from what I understand, and I’ve used magical items, but I myself cannot use it properly. Or at the very least, I cannot conjure anything. No spells or what have you. And does it bother you to know you’re a work of fiction? I’m a bit weirded out about it.” "Every world needs a legend of a lost city," Alicia commented. "Or at least it does seem that way." Shrugging at his comments about the tv. "It's not all bad, some of the stuff is downright entertaining. Especially when you are stuck healing or some such." Nodding at his question. "Yup. It's what we call people without magic." It took her a moment to answer his question. She'd merely nodded at his mentions of magic. "I guess it did at first. A mate of mine, Delilah was here for a little bit and she just loved it so it helped to get into it and not feel as weird about it with her around. In the end, I'm still me. Even if to some places it's fiction." Link smiled a bit and nodded in response to her comment, “Yea, it’s still a bit weird, but I’m still me so it’s not as if being fiction or non-fiction changes that, and I’m here, so I’m at least a bit real,” He laughed, then noted her destroyed target once more, moving towards it. “Your magic, it’s quite destructive isn’t it? Is that why you’re here, trying to reign it in a bit? Midna and I, when we traveled together, we utilized each other’s abilities to work in tandem. Her magic and my weapons and swordsmanship, it worked out well. Her magic wasn’t quite this offensive though. At least, not that I ever really saw her use.” He turned back towards her with a grin, “It’s rather impressive nonetheless, what you managed to do.” "You sure about that? Are you really here?" Alicia said with a laugh. "Couldn't help myself." She added waving off her tease. "Actually, I was working on seeing if I could combine a couple of different spells and let's just say I haven't figured it out yet. Usually, I'm much more controlled. I've been working with someone here who has a different kind of magic. Mixed results." She said. "But, I bet we could find a way to use your skills along with mine." Alicia laughed with a shrug. "Well, more impressive are all the household charms. Those are at least pretty." Link blinked a few times, staring at her a moment longer before raising a hand to rub at the back of his head, laughing some, “Right, well okay… maybe I’m not. Don’t do that, that’s just going to drive me insane, ha.” He shook his head then shrugged, looking around them and then back to her, “I’m going to go ahead and say I’m real.” He then turned up his brow, listening to what she was saying, nodding at the controlled part and licked his lips, “I guess I should be terrified what controlled looks like if uncontrolled looks like that. And what are household charms?” Link asked, even as he was releasing his sword from its sheath, and sliding the shield down onto his arm, flexing it a bit and then looked towards her, “Mind doing me a favor and sending a spell in my direction? In my world, this sword can repel magic, curious to see if it can repel yours? … Maybe something a bit less destructive than your last one?” “Sorry! Couldn’t help myself!” Alicia said with a small laugh. She really couldn’t help but tease. “Besides, you could argue if I am real or not too, being from a book and all.” Alicia tilted her head. “It would be less messy.” She admitted. “Oh, you know, clean the dishes, put the wash away, make everything clean and tidy. Our magic isn’t just about offense or defense, it’s used for a lot of other little things too.” Alicia laughed at the end of his question. “I’d be happy to!” She told him. “And I promise it won’t be anything that can hurt you!” She said as she got ready sending a “Tarantallegra” his way, a spell to force another his legs to begin dancing uncontrollably. “A book, you say?” Link thought about this and then smiled, “I’d like to be from a book. Sounds far more well thought out than a video game, a bit more complex. I’ve always enjoyed a good adventure novel--were you the protagonist in your book, or judging by the dominance you displayed to that target there, were you perhaps the antagonist? Am I dealing with a dastardly villain?” Link’s grin held true even as he spun the sword about, and began to bounce on his feet to work the blood through his muscles, raising a brow while his eyes locked on her own, “I should warn you, Ms. Spinnett, this blade is the Master Sword, The Blade of Evil’s Bane, or what have you. Plenty of titles, it’s meant to take down the dastardly villains of my world…” He then made a face, “That sounds like you’re using your magic for a crutch, and as a tool, I think perhaps your sorcerers may be a bit… lazy.” He grinned wider, then she shot her spell and it caught him by surprise, though it shouldn’t have, and he felt his legs suddenly become uncontrollable as he began to dance around. “What manner of magic is this?!” "I've never played a video game. I wouldn't know how thought out they are or not!" Alicia admitted. "If you want to read all about my land it's called Harry Potter and don't worry I barely make it into the books, mostly just to tell Oliver when he's being an idiot or during matches." Alicia shrugged at that; it clearly didn't bother her. "We did have a massive evil wizard that's now gone, but you never know who is going to come up and try and take over the world," Alicia said somewhat offhanded. Somehow talking about it still felt awkward. "What do you call it? Mr. Swordy? Or something more fun?" Alicia asked with a smirk. It might not have been polite but she couldn't help it as she started to laugh as he started to dance. "It's a dancing jinx." She told him as she laughed. "Should I take it off or toss something else at you?" “I just call it the Master Sword, I’m just saying people like to give it titles! Plus, I was just trying to warn you, and good goddess please make it stop!” Link’s feet continued to dance and play at the jinx, shaking his head as he eyed her, “I think you did this just to laugh at me.” He laughed too, not being able to stop, and it was becoming more and more frustrating trying to make it stop and not being able to, “Why would this even be a spell? How do you make magic like this, why in nature would this be a thing?” Of course, Link thought of magic as all natural things, part of the world, being manipulated by witches and wizards and mages and whatever else used magic on a common occurrence. Alicia tried to stop laughing as her face started to red she started to take the spell off but stopped as she leaned forward laughing. "Alright Almighty Mr. Swordy, I'll stop torturing your person," she said with another laugh before getting it together and quickly reversing the spell. "And it's for fun, besides you told me not to try and blow you up, figured that'd be a lot more fun if I managed to catch you with it." She said with a grin. "Not all magic is serious or for battle, some of it is just for pure fun." “I’ve never seen just for fun magic, and to be honest, I think our definition of just pure fun is quite different,” Link laughed, trying to catch his breath from the sudden onslaught of dancing. He shook his head, his pointed ears poking through his hair as it shook, then looked back up towards her with a brow raised, “And don’t take that as my actual dancing moves. I’m far better than uncontrollable legs suggest.” Letting out a breath, and catching it, he pulled his sword back out and spun it around in hand, swiping it a bit more and raising his shield. The shield was Hylian, it was powerful, it was not meant for magic in and of itself, so he did it simply out of habit really. He then nodded towards her, “Alright, try to hit me with something that won’t kill me, but also is offensive in nature. I want to see if this sword’s properties work here just as well as it had back in my world.” He then pointed the blade at her, “And no more dancing. That’s far more exhausting than fighting monsters.” "Guess we'll have to give you some lessons on magic for fun!" Alicia told him still struggling not to laugh at his dancing. "I guess I'll hold you to proving that one of these days." She added to his dancing skills it was impossible not to laugh a little bit. "Fair enough," Alicia told him. "I promise I won't make you burp uncontrollably." She winked as her expression got serious. "Petrificus Totalus," she cast, knowing the spell well she worked to make it a little bit stronger wanting to know what exactly the sword would or would not do. Link was more prepared this time, his grip on his sword firm but loose, allowing him to swing and maneuver it with ease; spinning the blade as her wand came up and she put the power of her magic behind it. Swiping the sword across his body, he slammed it into the magic and watched the colorful spell shoot off to the side and into a distant wall. Watching it, he could feel his arm go a bit numb and frowned, looking down at his arm then back at her, raising a brow, “Seems I can deflect. That’s good, it’s similar to things I’ve done in the past; although, what was that spell meant to do? My arm went pretty numb, makes me think the sword couldn’t quite dispel everything. Probably because it’s not magic from my world I’d assume.” He then raised a brow, “You have magic that can make someone burp uncontrollably too? How many children create spells where you’re from?” He chuckled. Alicia watched with interest as his sword deflected the spell. She watched as the wall looked as though it were hit pretty hard by it. "Well, looks like you've got a good defense against magic," Alicia said impressed. "Oh, body freezing. It paralyzes." Alicia explained still looking between Link and the wall. "But you could feel a bit of it?" She asked rhetorically. "Huh. Guess we should probably test out some other stuff on your sword at some point to get an idea of what magic from what worlds works or doesn't work. Loads of different sorts of magic around here." Laughing she shrugged, "Pranks are more fun with magic, one of my best mates owns a joke shop." She could feel the twinge of missing Fred when she said it, but she hid it pretty well. "Besides, who wouldn't want to be able to shoot tickling spells at mates during lectures?" “Lectures?” Link offered with a confused twitch of his brow, having never gone to school or even been around a school in his life. It just wasn’t something that would exist in his world, no need for it; it wasn’t practical by any means. Sword in hand, he then nodded at her assessment of the magic. “I imagine that a properly powerful spell would counter the Master Sword, I probably wouldn’t be able to deflect it, but maybe be able to absorb it or shield against it? I’m not certain… send me a rather damaging spell?” He dropped the sword to his side and loosened his grip so he could swing it faster, “Don’t hold back.” “Classes?” Alicia said tilting her head with a curious look. “You didn’t attend school?” She assumed unless he was from a place that didn’t have the same kind of schooling which was, of course, possible. Hell, anything was possible. “You sure?” Alicia asked figuring a disarming spell would be the best and be the one that would be the least likely to harm him. “Expelliarmus” Alicia let out without hesitation but with a good amount of force, her goal to send his sword flying out of his hand. If it really was there to protect him getting rid of it would be the most logical in battling him. Link’s frown returned and he offered a shrug, “I don’t know what a school is? But no, never attended anything called a school. Classes? That’s like a lesson, right? I’ve had several of those. A spirit of a great warrior gave me plenty of lessons on battle, that was good.” Link’s frowned turned into a smile, and he nodded to show he was certain of his request, and then found himself waiting for her to strike. When the strike came, he flung his blade down to slash at it, moving to deflect it; however, since the entire point of the spell was to disarm, and not harm, the Master Sword seemed incapable of straight dispelling it, and instead he felt a sharp jerk in his arm and the sword went flying from his hand. He blinked, watching it fly away, and then immediately turned towards her to bring his shield up, instinctively waiting for a second attack. “Wow, was that meant to do more?” "Lessons, yeah, in a room with other students on a set subject like charms, or defense against the dark arts and that sort of stuff... well loads more other stuff but yeah, lessons." She said making it a little bit more clear. Alicia watched as the sword went flying away from him. "I guess disarming spells still work. That's your main weapon yeah? Not that I don't think you could do the hand to hand stuff but well, swords are a bit more cutting." Alicia indicted. “I wasn’t in the mood to make anyones blood boil!” Link nodded, “Oh, mine was one on one with my teacher, in a spirit plane, away from reality. It required me to find him in his spiritual wolf form, in my own spiritual wolf form.” Link blinked a few times shrugging his shoulders then grinned. Moving towards the sword that was on the ground, he didn’t move towards it with any speed as they were still chatting and he got the sense they were having a good time simply figuring things out, “A bit more … cutting edge you could say.” He chuckled then bent to retrieve the sword, hauling it into hand and sliding it back into its sheath, “It is, yea. I have a few others, I’m pretty good with a bow and arrow, but I’ve never really fought.. Hand to hand. I did some sumo wrestling, learned how to use my opponent’s weight against them.” Looking back at her with a slight look of terror on his face, he then laughed, “Well good. I’d prefer no boiling blood.” "Sounds like an interesting way to learn," Alicia said with a smile, there was no judgment in her statement merely just a fact. Laughing she nodded, "If you are interested in learning Dimitri Belikov is a good teacher in hand to hand combat bit, he's one of the lead trainers around here. A bit of a hardass but a good bloke." Alicia said with a shrug. "I haven't worked with any of the others, but I hear they're all pretty good. Son Goku does more martial arts sort of stuff from what I've heard." She offered. "It's not the most pleasant of feelings," She said with a small laugh. Alicia looked up towards the clock in the room at that moment wincing. "Bloody hell, I completely forgot I was meeting Katie and Ange! I'm running late, but we should do this again, figure out the magic sword capabilities." Link nodded at her suggestions for teachers, thankful for that; then looked at the clock she was referring to and shrugged, “Sounds good. I’ll stay here and get some more workout in, before I get all flabby sitting around eating all of this food. I know very few people here, after all, so I’ve got no plans.” He winked and bowed his head towards her a moment, “It was fun, I look forward to more training. Have fun.” Link waited for her to take her leave before deciding to get back on with his training. |
