The knock came quicker than Jean had accounted for after setting up the evening with Lucifer, and she wasn’t quite ready, but went to the door to open it anyway. She was dressed in a pair of dark jeans and an emerald green sweater, but her feet were bare as she stepped back and smiled at her friend. “Come in - I’m almost ready, it’ll just be a couple minutes,” she told him. She reached out to take his hand and squeeze it in greeting, then turned to go back into her room. “I have to say one thing - I do like the added privacy and extra space they gave us,” she said over her shoulder as she stepped into the closet. “I may even do a little shopping tomorrow to make the room more cozy.” ~*~ When Lucifer woke up this morning and saw what had been going on it put him in a bad mood. But, when the second the door opened and he saw Jean, a small smile crossed his lips and the bad mood was already slowly starting to slip away. “Take your time,” he told her as he entered, making sure to shut the door behind himself. He took a quick look around. It was a mirror image of his new room…or apartment. It looked more apartment style now instead of the tiny little rooms they had been shoved in when they first arrived. He walked over to Jean’s bedroom and stopped for a moment in the doorway. “Hm, yes, this is one of the bright sides to this whole…thing.” He finally walked fully into her bedroom and took a seat on the edge of her bed. “Want some company if you do go shopping? I could help you pick out a few things.” ~*~ “Sure, I’d like that.” Jean stepped out, holding a pair of boots, having pulled on socks while in the closet - one of which currently had a small white kitten attached to it, which she was gently disengaging. Nudging the closet door shut behind her with her hip, she set the kitten down on the floor and sat next to Lucifer to pull her shoes on. “Meet my other new roommate. I picked her up the other day, but I haven’t decided on a name yet. Any suggestions?” She smiled over at Lucifer as she slipped her feet into the boots, tugging them over her jeans lightly. ~*~ “Perfect.” It’ll give him another reason to leave his new room and, of course, he loved spending time with Jean. It wasn’t the socks that caught his attention, but it was the creature attached to them. He was just about to ask about it when Jean spoke up already. He wasn’t going to say anything, but cats were not his favorite creature on this planet. Dogs, now that was something he could get into. Cats…there was just something off about those furry little things. “Socks,” he suggested as he watched the kitten wander about. It was probably a stupid name, but it was the first thing that came to mind and the fact that the furry thing was clinging to her socks before she remove the cat from its hold on them. “Or Snowball.” ~*~ His response had her laughing a bit, though she shook her head when he suggested “Snowball”. “That’s definitely too done, but I like Socks. It fits her, since this is the second pair she’s tried to attack while I was wearing them.” Jean paused to watch as the kitten padded over to the food bowl she’d put down in the corner and started to eat, then turned back to Lucifer while running a hand through her hair. “Alright, I just need to grab my coat and I’ll be ready to go.” ~*~ “Hm, you do have a point.” That name was quite common when it came to humans naming their pets. “How about Beasty?” He didn’t actually think Jean would like the name Socks, but hey, if it fit the furry little thing then maybe that should be its name. Lucifer kept watching the kitten and only looked away and gave his full attention to Jean once it was occupied with its food. “Okay,” he said, “you don’t need to lock that thing up before we leave or something, do you?” It was a valid question. ~*~ “That thing?” She smirked and took his hand as she stood, drawing him up as well. “I’ll shut the door to my room, but I think she’ll be fine here otherwise.” Jean picked her coat up from the back of a chair and slid it on, tugging her hat and scarf out of her pockets. “Don’t worry - she’s not going to follow us to the restaurant.” It was clear that Jean was amused that he obviously wasn’t a fan of the cat, but she wasn’t going to tease him too much about it. “She’s too interested in her own meal.” ~*~ “Yes or shall I call it Socks now?” He wasn’t quite sure if that’s what Jean was actually going to call it, but if that was going to its name, then he’ll stop calling it ‘that thing’. Maybe. “Alright. Just wanted to make sure no other steps were needed to be taken before we left.” He was glancing back at the cat again before he looked up at Jean and stood up. “She might!” He jokingly said. “For now. And once she’s done, she’s start plotting her escape.” Yeah, he was being ridiculous now, but it was a funny ridiculous. Not that he actually thought the cat would do anything, but it was something stupid to keep his mind on the happy and not back to how unhappy he had been feeling earlier. “So, are we ready to go out or is there something else you need to do first?” ~*~ “Socks it is,” Jean declared, and smiled at his words about the kitten following them. It was nice to see him in a good mood, at least, considering his earlier post. Pulling on scarf and hat, she then slipped an arm around his. “Nope, I’m officially ready to go,” she said to him while smiling. “Lead the way to Cava.” She hesitated for just a moment, then leaned in and brushed her lips across his cheek. This - whatever it was - between them was still fairly new, though she was enjoying it, aside from the nostalgia that had come from her Winter Solstice gift. ~*~ Lucifer looked over at the cat and said, “you’re no longer nameless, you’re welcome.” He turned his attention back to Jean, smiling. “Off we go then.” He started to head out, with Jean linked with his own arm. A few minutes later and they were out in the cold Atlantis air. This weather had started to make him miss Los Angeles. It never got this miserable outside there. Not that the cold weather bothered him. It reminded him a little too much of Hell. Especially when the snow started. “If only the magical gift fairies had given me my car…” he thought out loud as they walked. ~*~ Once they were outside, Jean moved a little closer to Lucifer. While she could likely warm herself up with her powers, she preferred this, at the moment - having the connection to someone else, and she kept her arm tucked into his as she looked around at the sleepy town. Personally, she was a fan of the winter, and she half wished it would snow again. Tugged from her thoughts by his words, she looked over. “What kind of car did you have in Los Angeles?” ~*~ Lucifer was perfectly fine having Jean move closer to him so that she could stay warm. He actually liked it. This wasn’t something he typically did with most people. But with Jean. He did a lot of things he normally wouldn’t do. “A 1962 Corvette.” He missed being able to drive around in it. It was one of a few things that he loved. Now that he’s been in Atlantis, he’s had to walk everywhere or get a taxi. Although, walking with Jean was never a horrible moment. Any other time, he would probably be muttering to himself about having to walk everywhere. “Do you drive back at home?” ~*~ “What color?” She nodded at the question. “Yes, but nothing specific. I lived in a...well, it was pretty much a boarding school. I taught there, so whenever I needed a vehicle I’d usually just choose something from the garage.” That something was typically her husband’s, but she chose not to think about that right now. “It must be very strange to be here, instead of in LA. Between the weather and the people...why do you stay?” ~*~ “Black. It’s a convertible too.” Living in a boarding house didn’t sound exciting, but having a whole garage full of different cars to drive, that would be fun. “So, you could drive something different every day.” Lucifer nodded his head a little. It was strange, of course it was, this place was nothing like L.A.. “Chloe,” he answered pretty easily, “well, it was just Chloe at first. But then I met you. So, I basically stay because of the two of you.” He didn’t care about the war. He wasn’t even part of it and he never saw himself signing up as a volunteer for it either. “I also might be happy with the fact that this is as far away from my Mum as I could possibly be.” He still wasn’t sure if his dear old dad might do something since he kind of broke his promise to him. He didn’t want to think about that, though. That stuff was back at home. Not here. “I’m sure you have reasons why you’re sticking around instead of going back home.” In the end they all had their reasons, right? ~*~ “Of course it is,” she said with a grin, squeezing his arm. That didn’t surprise her in the slightest. Jean nodded a bit at his next words, then smiled when he answered her question about staying. “I”m glad Chloe is here for you,” she said, then smiled a little more when he mentioned her. She nearly asked what he meant about his mother, but stopped, picking up on the fact that there were some things that he didn’t want to discuss anymore than she did. His mom. Her husband. Parts of their lives back “there” that weren’t here. “I do, yes.” After all, she was alive here. ~*~ “Before we picked up the coins, she was starting to go through a divorce with Detective Douche, so, I mostly want to make sure she’s doing okay. And because I do care a lot about her.” And she still intrigued him. Like, he still wants to know why his powers don’t work on her and why does she make him vulnerable like a human whenever she’s present. “Speaking of people we care about…how’s Hope doing?” He hadn’t spoken to her in a while and he knew Jean kept an eye on her, so he wanted to just see how the kid was doing. “Nothing you want to talk about, right?” He glanced over at her. He didn’t blame her if it was something bad. He didn’t always want to talk about certain things when it came to his life, so if she didn’t want to do the same with her’s, he was fine with that. “And we’re finally here,” he told her as they reached the entrance to Cava. He opened the door for her so that she could go in first and then he entered right after her. ~*~ “She’s settling in, I think, but it’s hard to say for sure. I never met her before here, and she’s...had a difficult life. Nothing even remotely close to normal - not that many in our family had normal lives, but still. I think she’s nervous about school starting on Monday.” She met his eyes and gave a faint smile. “I’m still working on getting to know her, but we don’t exactly share the same interests.” Jean shrugged. When they reached the restaurant, Jean stepped inside and looked around, smiling lightly. She hadn’t been here yet, though she had passed the restaurant a few times and it looked interesting. “Have you been here before?” ~*~ “I’m beginning to think that most of us that have been brought here haven’t lived a quote on quote normal life.” That seemed to be the thing that they all had in common. Maybe that’s why they were tempted with the golden coins. He had thought she knew Hope back at home, maybe he was remembering the details wrong. “She’ll be fine on Monday. If not, we can kidnap her and take her to somewhere much more fun that school.” He shook his head at Jean’s question and he gave the place a once over. “Nope. I always pass by it, but I never stepped foot inside until now.” Once they were seated and handed their menus, he started to look over it. He only stopped when the waiter came to their table. Once the waiter was done doing what waiters normally did when they came to a table, he ordered the most expensive wine that the place had. “What would you like to drink” he asked as he looked away from the waiter and to Jean. ~*~ “Good point,” she said dryly, shaking her head. When he said Hope would be fine, she smiled a little. “I hope you’re right…” and she shook her head when he said they’d kidnap her. “I think she’d probably like that, actually, but it would be terribly wrong to do.” But then, she was consorting with the devil. After they were inside and seated at the table, Jean studied the wine list herself. Finally, she ordered a merlot, then settled back and smiled at Lucifer. “This was a nice choice. I hope you’re feeling better now?” ~*~ “I usually make a lot of good points and yet people side eye me most of the time.” He liked Hope and he doesn’t usually like kids, okay, so technically she’s a teenager, but there was obviously something there that made her interesting. “She just needs to open up a bit.” And then the girl would be fine. “That’s what would make it incredibly fun,” he told Jean with a huge smile. Anything ‘wrong’ meant it was just extra fun to do. “I am, so far.” As long as he had his distractions, he would be fine. He didn’t even want to think about it for the rest of the night. He mostly just wanted to focus on anything and everything that he and Jean end up doing tonight. “It’s hard not to feel better when I have you here with me.” ~*~ “Perhaps it’s because you say them with that smile of yours so often,” she said as she reached out to touch his hand. “And you’re right, she does, but I don’t want to push her. She’s spent most of her life on the run from people trying to kill her, so I don’t think she’s ever really had the chance to stop and just live.” “Good,” she told him, then smiled over at him. “I’m glad my being here helps with that, though I think you really just needed to get out for a few hours.” And if that meant they went on a date, well who was she to complain? ~*~ “That’s a very good possibility. Maybe I should work on that.” He glanced down when he felt her hand touch his and after a moment he ended up taking a hold of her hand and holding it. Yeah, this was definitely not normal for him. He never did little gestures like this with anyone. Mostly he flirted up a storm with the girls in Lux and then took them up to the penthouse and screwed them. “Maybe she needs a tiny push to get her going.” Jean was probably right. He hadn’t gone anywhere the whole day until he left his room so that he could get to Jean’s, which was unlike him. He was always up and doing something. “You’re right. This was exactly what I needed.” Because now he felt more like himself. “So, what sounds good to you?” He asked as he glanced down at his own menu. ~*~ She gave his hand a soft squeeze as she nodded. “You could be right.” But honestly she wasn’t sure how Hope would do. With any luck, there wouldn’t be too many other people around to overwhelm her. “I’m thinking perhaps the stuffed peppers, the Pimientos del Piquillo Rellenos,” she said absently after another glance down at her menu. Their wine arrived then, and Jean smiled as the server poured for each of them, then looked back at Lucifer. “Have you decided? ~*~ “I’m usually right,” he told her with a small smile. “That sounds good.” He glanced down once more a this own menu before making a decision about what he was going to be ordering. “I think I have. Let’s start ordering.” He glanced at the waiter before looking back at Jean. “Ladies first.” ~*~ She smiled at Lucifer, then gave the server her order and handed over the menu. Once they had both ordered and were alone again, she sat back and picked up her wine, taking a long sip. As she lowered the glass, the redhead met his eyes again. “I like this place. It was a good suggestion.” |
