“Hey,” she called out when caught sight of Trip as he walked past her.
“I need another set of eyes on this,” Rose knew when she was starting to get crosseyed and needed another set of eyes on the problem. Rose had taken some papers from Matt to look over and was coming across a few mentions of where COS might be using a hideout in the lake.
“Is it just me, or are these two talking about the same place?” The language was vastly different and there were only a few small clues they might be the same place, similar teal color mentioned and the entrance being different.
Trip slowed his footsteps immediately and turned towards Rose’s voice, a bright smile filling his face in greeting. “All right, let’s see what we’ve got,” he answered, reaching out to take the papers from her. “Where’d you get this?”
Standing up straight she pulled her shoulder blades together on her back stretching. “Well,” she raised here eyebrows eyes getting wide and shrugged. “I have my ways,” she teased but added. “This one was recorded when they breeched intake and took it out,” she pointed to the other. “And this is from intel gathered after the end of the battle.”
“Tricksy.” Trip might’ve pushed the issue if someone else had shown him the papers, but he trusted Rose’s judgment. If she believed the source was legitimate, then it probably was.
After taking some time to study what she’d given him, it seemed to Trip that her hunch was probably right in the first place. “You think it’s worth checking out in person?” he asked, glancing up at her. “Could be a wild goose chase, or could be they’re leaving clues for a trap, but --” He shrugged. “Only one way to find out, right?”
Rose took a moment to grab a couple of bottles of water for them while he looked it over. She had a feeling he might be just the person up for checking it out.
“You read my mind,” she teased. “Anything is worth checking out, especially as this seems to have the legs of possibility to it.” Rose didn’t mind chasing strings that might seem far fetched. In fact, she liked the challenge and sometimes it proved really worth it.
“So, up for a game of wild goose?” She asked holding out the water bottle.
Trip was up on his feet in a split second. He took the water bottle from her with a grin. “Hell yeah I am.” It’d be good to hang out with Rose, he thought, and get some work done along the way. “Been a while since we got a mission of our own. It’ll be like old times.”
Laughing Rose smiled. “As long as we don’t get stuck hiding in thorny bushes again, I still think I have a scar on my shin from that one,” she smirked talking about an old mission they’d been on together.
