ELLE SPINNET + CALLIE SPINNET
HIGH | CHARACTER DEATH | COMPLETE NARRATIVE
Elle hadn't been at the Battle of Hogwarts. She'd heard countless retellings of it from her siblings over the years, but she'd been far removed from the school when You-Know-Who made his final stand against Potter and the others. She remembered the war from a distance and the effects it had on the Wizarding World as a whole, but she'd never been a part of the war, not directly. She'd been horrified by some of the acts that were committed, but she'd never felt the personal connection to any of it.
Initially, Elle had stayed in Atlantis out of necessity. The moment she'd shown up in Atlantis, she knew the fate that waited for her on the other side. Staying had nothing to do with helping the cause or defeating COS but was instead a choice of survival. That and the added luxury of antagonizing one or two of her siblings with nothing more than her presence. Never in a million years did she ever believe this would become a comfortable place for her or a place she genuinely cared about saving. What was even more surprising was that she'd found people she cared about, including her siblings. She had friends. A boyfriend. A daughter. It all happened so gradually, but eventually Elle realized she had a lot to lose from her life in Atlantis. Her purpose was no longer about survival from her death at home but the real desire to make a life for herself here. So, when the call to fight came earlier that day, she didn't hesitate to pick up her wand and run towards the beach.
She wasn't an agent; Elle hadn't been training day in and day out since her arrival. That didn't mean she wasn't skilled with her wand; however, and she found battle spells came back to her. There were so many people fighting on both sides, and at times it was hard to make heads or tails of who was fighting who, but she stayed focused and determined. Spinning around to avoid a hit, she used her free hand and punched the agent in the face. Lifting her eyes to see what was coming next, she caught a glimpse of a familiar dark-haired girl not far away from where she was standing with an agent preparing to raise a gun in her direction from behind her.
Callie.
Elle narrowed her eyes and fired off a hex directly to the agent's chest, knocking him backwards. As soon as she knew the agent was down, she turned to face one that was coming her way. Her wand was raised at the ready, but before she could fire off another spell, something shocked her from behind and she went to her knees. A second later and before she could react, her body jerked forward and there was a sharp blow to her chest, and life started rushing out of her for the second time. Elle's wand slipped from her fingers, and she was dead before she hit the ground.
Callie’s head snapped around as she felt a spell whizz past her ear and she watched as the COS agent it hit was knocked backwards. Immediately, she turned to look for the caster. She knew with all certainty that whoever it was had just saved her life. Although all she saw was the back of a glossy, dark head as the person turned to continue the fight, Callie realised with an instant flare of pride and gratitude that it was her mum.
Callie took a step towards Elle, her own wand grasped tightly in her hand as she prepared to join in the fighting at her mum’s side. Before she could reach her, however, a hulking figure appeared between them, as if from nowhere, and sent her flying with a swift backhand to her jaw. Callie didn’t even have time to raise her wand before she was falling through the air, the rocks and sand of the beach quickly approaching from below.
She felt her teeth rattle as her head hit a rock with splintering force. Whiteness exploded in front of her eyes, wiping away the blood soaked carnage of the scene in front of her on the beach. She could feel the cool rock beneath her cheek growing wet and warm with what she supposed must be blood - her blood. Gradually, the sounds of the battle around her began to fade, until all she could hear was the thudding of her own heartbeat. Eventually, that too ceased.
