After a morning shift at the shop, Emily had the afternoon off and decided to head down to the beach. It was a beautiful day out, and she knew that Kona was chomping at the bit to get out for a nice run. She loved the water almost as much as Emily did, and Emily loved watching her splash in the waves. Though, she had much less fun washing all of the sand and grit out of her fur once they got back home.
Thanks to it being a weekday, and around mid-day, the beach wasn’t too crowded yet, so the two of them had a nice big spot all to themselves. She’d brought a couple tennis balls and a frisbee along with her to help keep Kona busy. After about an hour, the dog was practically worn out (for now) and was happy to stay settled next to Emily’s chair as she still gnawed on one of the tennis balls.
Emily smiled and patted Kona’s head and leaned back in her hair, closing her eyes and lifted her face up to the sun shining down. Another half hour or so passed, and soon she heard the telltale sound of seagulls squawking nearby. Unfortunately for the birds, Kona also heard and spotted them and was off and running after another burst of energy.
Laughing, Emily just shook her head and called the pup back over, holding the tennis ball in her hand to lure her back. It was a hard sell, but Kona came bounding back over, and Emily tossed the ball towards the water for her to go after. When she started back over for another throw, Kona spotted Tracey Davis on the beach walking over and barked.
“Kona!” Emily called and was up out of her chair, walking over just as Kona had dropped the ball in front of Tracey, expecting her to play along with the game. She smiled and was thankful that she wasn't bothered by the dog invasion but was calling her own pup over to join in on the fun.
