It had been a long time since he'd done this. Right after he'd arrived in Atlantis, before he got to know people or more accurately let himself get to know people other than Sara, he'd spent a lot of time in the woods shooting things. He'd take his bow and a target, find a tree and just shoot for hours. Sometimes he just shot the trees without a target or get bored and try to see if he could shoot a specific leaf off the tree and he rarely missed. He didn't shoot any of the animals though or the birds. He wasn't going to eat them and he didn't want to murder them just for the sake of doing so. He'd been restless for a few weeks now and he couldn't tell you why. Things were fine with Clarke, nothing out of the way had happened with work but there was something in the air. Maybe it was just the change of seasons, that sometimes made people feel weird. Oliver didn't know but today he had gotten up early and headed into the woods, after making sure he told Clarke where he was going so she wouldn't worry that he'd disappeared. That was another thing. Fewer people were arriving and leaving these days which wasn't a bad thing necessarly but it wasn't usual. It probably didn't mean anything though and it wasn't like he would be studying the statistics. It was just an observation. After a couple of hours of shooting, he put his bow to the side and sat down under a tree. He'd packed a thermos of water and a sandwich and this seemed like a good time to eat it. While he ate, he tried to remember how long he'd been in Atlantis. Time seemed to travel at a different speed here so it was hard to keep up. If his estimation was right, he'd been here about two years. He'd also been told that he'd been here before that but left and he didn't recall that time. It had been a busy two years and a good one. He'd met Clarke, fallen in love, and made some good friends. There had been hard times too on some of the missions, Clarke had been kidnapped more than once and he'd lived in fear that she wouldn't come back but she had. He finished his meal and cleaned things up, putting them in a bag to take home with him so he could throw it away. He didn't want anyone to call him a litter bug after all. Or for Atlantis to turn hin into a bug because he'd messed up the woods. He wouldn't put it past the place. Oliver stood up and stretched and looked around. It really was beautiful here, he thought, even though it was just as strange if not stranger than Lian Yu. Thankfully here he wasn't fighting for his life every single day and he hoped the strange feelingd he'd been having didn't mean that that was about to change. |
